LAY HOLD ON THE POWER GOD WANTS TO GIVE YOU FOR YOUR CHRISTIAN BUSINESS 6: Pick The Mantle

Bible Passage: 2 Kings 2:13-14 KJV

"He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan; [14] And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over." (2 Kings 2:13-14 KJV)

Unknown to many Christians who have actually accepted the call of God in business, there is a mantle that has been bequeathed to them for the assignment.

Like Elisha, many see the chariots and see the mantle fall but in the haste to get on with business as usual, they either failed to pick up the mantle that has fallen to them or just set it aside as a trophy.

If the mantle was not needed, it wouldn't have fallen back to the earth from Elijah. Thankfully, Elisha picked the mantle (2 Kings 2:13). If he had not picked the mantle how would he have parted the Jordan on his way back or become comfortable in the authority that was now his to marshal (2 Kings 2:14).

Your mantle may not be physical as was in the time of Elijah but you have to be aware if it and become comfortable using it.

Your mantle is critical to all the Lord wants to release through you in business. You will need it to overcome obstacles in the way. It comes in form of spiritual gifts and endowment that are unique to you which will distinguish you in business and show forth the Lord. It is a veritable tool without which you can't fulfil your destiny.

Dear child of God in business, there is something you have to pick up before you can lay a hold on the power God wants to give you in business. The Holy Spirit is the power through which you can bring your calling in business to actualisation but if you neglect to pick up any of the instruments that The Lord releases, or fail to understand fully how to work it, you may jeopardise the mission.

Pick up your mantle.

Be blessed.

Lord, I cannot achieve the assignment that you have given me if I neglect any instrument you have made available for my use. Help me to be able to lay a good hold on them and to use them effectively.

ARISE IN YOUR CHRISTIAN BUSINESS 40: The Battle Is The Lord's

Bible Passage: 1 Samuel 17:45-47

And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands. (1 Samuel 17:47 KJV)

One major factor responsible for the hesitation of most Christians in business to arise, is not knowing how things will turn out if they were to adopt the standards of God in business.

This is largely due to ignorance resulting from a negligence in learning about the Lord and His ways and understanding that every engagement He asks you to make will work for His glory. Negligence in not developing yourself to listen to and be led of the spirit of God ahead of the days you will need to act. Negligence in growing in faith to the level that you are able to stand no matter what. Negligence in using the power God has made available to you and everyone who has taken ownership of the powers God has released to His children.

When you become convinced that the Lord is able to see you through any road He leads you to, you will struggle less about arising and standing for Him as you should in business.

Such was the ignorance of Barak about arising for God that when he was called upon to stand, he gave a condition that he would only do so if Deborah would go with him (Judges 4:8). As a result, the glory that should have accrued to him was given to another person. How many ways have you allowed your ignorance to feed your decision not to stand for God and rob you of the honour that should have been yours?

Our bible passage affirms one of the firm convictions that you must allow to permeate your thoughts and person as you make up your mind to heed the call to arise and stand for God in business. It is from the words David spoke in response to Goliath’s taunts. David made an affirmation after the Lord had given him such an unimaginable victory over Goliath - as you will too when you know God to the same degree. He said that not only would the whole world know there is a God in Israel, but those who witnessed the battle would also know that you don't need an entire army or arsenal of weapons to win a battle that the Lord is fighting for you. This is because the battle is the Lord's and He will give you victory (1 Samuel 17:45-47).

Dear child of God in business, what have you been pinning your hopes on to give you victory in your Christian Business? Who have you placed your confidence in to see you through the challenges you envisage in business?

Hezekiah understood that confidence in the Lord very well and charged his people when Sennacherib king of Assyria came against Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 32:1). Hezekiah charged his people in these words, "Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him: With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battle." (2 Chronicles 32:7-8). With these words the people rested themselves and in the end, the Lord gave His people victory (2 Chronicles 32:22).

As you arise for the Lord in your business, let this assurance fill you with confidence. The Lord will give you victory over every force that comes against you in Jesus name. The battle of your Christian Business is the Lord's and the Lord knows well how to prosecute His wars.

Arise. The battle is the Lord's. Don’t let anything suggest to you otherwise. The world awaits your rising.

WHEN YOUR COMMUNICATION IN YOUR CHRISTIAN BUSINESS IS CORRUPT

Bible Passage: Ephesians 4:29

"Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers." (Ephesians 4:29 KJV)

Our bible passage raises your awareness that there are majorly two types of communication.

1. Corrupt Communication
2. Edifying Communication.

The communication that is described as corrupt will cover all kinds of mannerisms that are designed to tear people down and make them feel worthless. These are mostly demeaning put downs or one ups with one intention. Show them who is the boss. Corrupt Communication is seldom designed to teach any lesson or help throw light on a situation. It is not a style of communication that the Lord smiles on. Sadly a good number of us ChrIstians in business have adopted this mode of communication with people who have to deal with us in one sphere of life or the other. This sad approach is often acquired from teachers and people who taught us the ropes. It takes a lot to undo this evil and to choose better communication methods.

Edifying communication on the other hand has the objective of building understanding and enhancing better performance. It focusses on the task of encouraging the person to whom it is directed.

Whilst corrupt communication tears down, edifying communication illuminates, inspires and uplifts the people to whom it is directed.

Edifying communication invariably leads to better productivity and confidence of the person whilst corrupt communication accentuates division, increases lack of confidence and rides on fear rather than confidence.

As a Christian in business you need to pay greater attention to your choice of words, no matter the circumstances you face. The question to ask yourself is can I still get the point I am trying to make across without being so mean or personal? Can I make them understand the point I am making in a good way without eroding their belief in themselves or tearing them down?

Our passage enjoins you to have zero tolerance for corrupt communication in your Christian business (Ephesians 4:29). That means you shouldn't do it or allow anyone to become comfortable in that skin around you. There is nothing Christlike about it. Instead ensure you speak words that edify and minister grace to your listeners.

Grace to you.

LEARNING OBEDIENCE 30: You Can't Always Be Sure Where The Road Leads

Bible Passage: Hebrews 11:8

"By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went." (Hebrews 11:8 KJV)

It is always easy to obey the instructions you are given when you agree with them. The challenge of obedience actually comes more from having a mind that questions, disagrees or seeks some further assurance about what is required to be done.

More often than not when God leads the way you will not be in a position to tell which road will lead you to the promised land. God works in ways that our logical reasoning will find challenging.

How could anyone have told the disciples that the way to solve the issue of paying tax to the leaders was by going to catch a fish and opening its mouth to bring out a coin?! If you were in that position and the word of God for you was to take a similar absurd step, would you?

This is the same thing that happened at the wedding in Cana Galilee. The wine had run out and Jesus' mother took the servants to him. She took the pains to ask them to follow his instructions expressly no matter how absurd they might sound. She had an idea that the solution that God gives always defies the reasoning of men. Jesus asked them to fetch water and put them in waterpots then told them to draw from them and give to the chairman in charge of the occasion to drink (John 2:1-10). Again another unthinkable command.

Another example is found in the story of Jeremiah. The Lord had foretold what would become of the land of Judah and the captivity awaiting Jerusalem for their transgressions (Jeremiah 1:3). Because of this the value of real estate was expected to fall drastically, yet the Lord instructed Jeremiah to acquire land (Jeremiah 32:6-15). Jeremiah did as he was instructed because he knew that God can do all things.

Our bible passage shows that it is faith that makes it possible for you to take the kind of steps that don't align with what men would consider good judgement. It goes on to further reveal that when Abraham stepped out in faith, he went where he was told to go without really knowing where he was headed (Hebrews 11:8).

Dear child of God in business, learning obedience will require you to understand and accept that you can't always be sure where the road leads before agreeing to take a walk with the Lord. You just have to take a leap of faith trusting that those everlasting arms are indeed unfailing for all who trust in Him (Deuteronomy 33:27). This may be contrary to all you have learnt in business school. That's why you need to learn obedience.

Grace to you.

LEARNING OBEDIENCE 15: Give No Room for Fear

Bible Passage: Judges 6:10-12

"And I said unto you, I am the Lord your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice. [11] And there came an angel of the Lord , and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. [12] And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour." (Judges 6:10-12 KJV)

Another factor that causes disobedience in children of God is fear. That is why one of the things you must get the better of, if you want to learn obedience, is fear.

There are various types of fear. There is fear of the unknown. In this case a person doesn't do what God wants because they aren't sure what to expect and how exactly things will play out. If Abraham had let this stop him we wouldn't be reading about him today.

There is also fear of failure. In this case the person really wants to do what God wants but feels inadequate to surmount the challenges ahead.

Another type of fear is the fear of others. This is when the consideration for what others would say crowds out what God is saying and makes us choose a path God has not chosen for us. This was the initial problem that made King Saul run into problems with God.

The question is, are you allowing fear to come in the way of your obedience to God in one form or another in your Christian business?

Remind yourself always that if you have fear, it becomes nearly impossible to actualise what God wants for you (1 John 4:18).

Rather than lean on your fear, what you must do is lean on your faith. Choosing to act in the line of fear may give us temporary comfort but ultimately the price is an unfulfilled destiny (Hebrews 11:24-27).

Our bible passage shares an occasion in which God had instructed the children of Israel not to be afraid but instead they chose to fear (Judges 6:10). That led to many years of oppression, deprivation and impoverishment till the Lord came to free them by raising Gideon to be their judge and leading them out of the problem they had put themselves in (Judges 6:1-14).

Dear child of God, it is only those who don't give in to fear that see the salvation of the Lord (Exodus 14:13).

Next time fear wants to stop you from obeying what God is asking you to do, remind yourself that fear is not of God. Courage and soundness of mind are. Face that mountain with every assurance that God has given you.

Grace to you

ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS

Bible Passage: Judges 1:27-35

"However, Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; for the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land. And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites under tribute, but did not completely drive them out." (Judges 1:27-28 NKJV)

Prior to their crossing the Jordan River, God instructed the Israelites that when they got to the Promised Land, they were to drive out ALL the Canaanites from the land and destroy everything relating to them (Numbers 33:51-53). But the Israelites failed to obey. They left some Canaanites behind and made them slaves in their various inherited lands. It started with Judah (Judges 1:19), then Benjamin followed in their footsteps (Judges 1:21), then Manasseh (Judges 1:27) and so did most of the remaining tribes. Only few of the tribes weren't recorded to have left the Canaanites behind in their various lands.

Even if those ahead of you are going against God's will and instructions, you shouldn't follow in their footsteps. Determine to be the one to walk in line with God's will even if others fail to. If after Judah made the mistake of disobeying God's instructions, the tribes after should have decided they would do what God wanted. I also believe that if the tribes truly wanted to obey God but found it hard to drive out the Canaanites because they were strong, they could have sought help from the other tribes and united against their enemies. After all, they were all one nation. Always find a way to follow through with God's instructions rather than compromise.
