The Empty Notebook
The notebook had been sitting on his desk for eight months.
Hardcover.
Cream pages.
Expensive enough that he didn't want to "waste" it.
He bought it because he wanted to write down brilliant ideas.
The problem was...
He hadn't had any.
So the notebook stayed empty.
One Saturday afternoon, his niece wandered into his room.
She picked it up. "Can I draw in this?" she asked.
He almost shouted, "No!"
Instead, he paused.
Why was he protecting blank pages?
That evening, he opened the notebook for the first time.
The first page wasn't brilliant.
It was messy.
Half an idea.
Three crossed-out sentences.
A terrible sketch.
The next day, he filled another page.
And another.
Months later, he flipped through the notebook.
Some pages were embarrassing.
Some ideas had failed.
But hidden between the rough drafts were concepts that became real projects, meaningful conversations and opportunities he could never have planned for.
It struck him.
The notebook wasn't waiting for perfection.
It was waiting for permission.
How many dreams stay trapped because we're waiting for the perfect time, the perfect plan or the perfect version of ourselves?
God has never asked us to begin perfectly.
He only asks us to begin.
"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin." — Zechariah 4:10
An empty notebook has never changed anyone's life.
A used one has.
This week, stop protecting potential. Put something on the page.
