DAY 20
20th Feb. 2024
Colossians 3:23-24
"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."

Never do anything solely to please man. If you do so, you receive your reward from the man and that'll be all. But if you do it with the satisfaction that you're doing it to please the Lord who has commanded you to do so, then great will be your reward from the Lord.

Even if you're an employee in someone's company, your steadfastness should borne from the injunction of the Lord that he who does not work should not eat and the other one that says, servants obey your masters. Based on those verses, you should then carry out your duties with great enthusiasm and not grudgingly and God will shock you with His blessings.

When you render help to people, don't get angry if they don't show profuse gratitude to you. If you do then you didn't really rendered the help for God's sake but for your own sake. Here's the twist, rendering help to people and expecting them to thank and worship you profusely is indirectly saying the alms you rendered to them was gotten by yourself. And that is the point God is angered because all we have and will ever have are received from the Lord.

DAY 16
A New Knowledge of God Ministries Daily Devotionals
16th February, 2024
Topic: Hate what is evil.
Text: Romans 12:9

"Let love be without hypocrisy. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."

To understand this topic better we must first appreciate the meaning of evil in the context of the Bible. In the old Testament there are about 56 occurrences where the people of Israel did evil in the eyes of the Lord and nearly in all these instances, they were put to death. See Gen 38: 7 & 10; Num 32:13; Deut 4:25, 9:18; Judges 2:11, Judges 3:7 etc.

Evil is defined as something which is morally wrong, sinful, or wicked; however, the word evil can also refer to anything that causes harm, with or without the moral dimension. The word is used both ways in the Bible. Anything that contradicts the holy nature of God is evil (see Psalm 51:4). On the flip side, any disaster, tragedy, or calamity can also be called an “evil” (see 1 Kings 17:20, KJV).

Evil behavior includes sin committed against other people (murder, theft, adultery) and evil committed against God (unbelief, idolatry, blasphemy). From the disobedience in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:9) to the wickedness of Babylon the Great (Revelation 18:2), the Bible speaks of the fact of evil, and man is held responsible for the evil he commits: “The one who sins is the one who will die” (Ezekiel 18:20).

Essentially, evil is a lack of goodness. Moral evil is not a physical thing; it is a lack or privation of a good thing. As Christian philosopher J. P. Moreland has noted, “Evil is a lack of goodness. It is goodness spoiled. You can have good without evil, but you cannot have evil without good.” Or as Christian apologist Greg Koukl has said, “Human freedom was used in such a way as to diminish goodness in the world, and that diminution, that lack of goodness, that is what we call evil.”

God is love (1 John 4:8); the absence of love in a person is un-God-like and therefore evil. And an absence of love manifests itself in unloving behavior. The same can be said concerning God’s mercy, justice, patience, etc. The lack of these godly qualities in anyone constitutes evil. That evil then manifests itself in behavior that is unmerciful, unjust, impatient, etc., bringing more harm into the good world that God has made. As it turns out, we lack a lot: “As it is written: ‘There is no one righteous, not even one’” (Romans 3:10).

Moral evil is wrong done to others, and it can exist even when unaccompanied by external action. Murder is an evil action, but it has its start with the moral evil of hatred in the heart (Matthew 5:21–22). Committing adultery is evil, but so is the moral evil of lust in the heart (Matthew 5:27–28). Jesus said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person” (Mark 7:20–23).

Those who fall into evil behavior usually start slowly. Paul shows the tragic progression into more and more evil in Romans 1. It starts with refusing to glorify God or give thanks to Him (Romans 1:21), and it ends with God giving them over to a “depraved mind” and allowing them to be “filled with every kind of wickedness” (verses 28–29).

Those who practice evil are in Satan’s trap and are slaves to sin: “Opponents [of the Lord’s servant] must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (2 Timothy 2:25–26; see also John 8:34). Only by the grace of God can we be set free.

Physical evil is the trouble that befalls people in the world, and it may or may not be linked to moral evil or divine judgment. Ecclesiastes 11:2 counsels us to diversify our investments, for this reason: “thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth” (KJV). The word evil in this case means “disaster,” “misfortune,” or “calamity,” and that’s how other translations word it. Sometimes, physical evil is simply the result of an accident or causes unknown, with no known moral cause; examples would include injuries, car wrecks, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Other times, physical evil is God’s retribution for the sins of an individual or group. S***m and the surrounding cities were destroyed for their sins (Genesis 19), and God “made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly” (2 Peter 2:6). Many times, God warned Israel of the calamities that awaited them if they rebelled: “[The LORD] also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity” (Isaiah 31:2, KJV). In all cases, God works through the situation to bring about His good purpose (Romans 8:28).

God is not the author of moral evil; rather, it is His holiness that defines it. Created in God’s image, we bear the responsibility to make moral choices that please God and conform to His will. He wills our sanctification (1 Thessalonians 4:3) and does not wish us to sin (James 1:13). In repentance and faith in Christ, we have forgiveness of sin and a reversal of the moral evil within us (Acts 3:19). As God’s children, we walk according to this command: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21).

When we go out of our ways to associate with people who are not Born Again and feel very relaxed in their presence even when we're not receiving any financial benefits from them then we're not truly God's children. We're not called to hate people but as children of God born of water and the spirit, we should hate an association with people who openly detest the idea of being born again. See Psalms 1:1-3.

DAY 15
A New Knowledge of God Ministries Daily Devotionals
15th February, 2024
Topic: Apart from God and our partners, who do we truly love?
Text: Romans 12:9

"Let love be without hypocrisy. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."

We shall look at this verse today and tomorrow. For today, we shall look at the type of love Jesus wants us to have for one another: a love without hypocrisy. Tomorrow we shall look at the second lap: hating what is evil.

Another meaning for hypocrisy is lip-service. Hypocrisy is defined as "an expression of an agreement that is not supported by real conviction." Another definition brings it even closer home: "insincerity by virtue of pretending to have qualities or beliefs that you do not really have."

I like the way New Living Translation presents this verse: "Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
Romans 12:9 NLT.

God hates double standards more than anything else. That's what He's emphasising through this verse. Why give the impression that you love somebody and some even go ahead to say it out that they love this person or that person but the people can never mention any act of kindness they received from those persons. Love, like Jesus shown to the world, is practical not theoretical. It's just like a woman, even if you tell a woman you hate her, as long as you continue buying gifts for her, she'll convince herself that you love her. Those things you say about hating her were all pretences.

As Christians, we are expected to love one another more than we love our blood relatives who are not born again. By being Born Again, we have become members or if you like siblings from the same womb through Jesus which makes us different completely from the earthly womb that bonds us with our non Born Again siblings.

So when the Bible says in verse 5 below of same Rom 12 that, "we, though many, are one body in Christ, and each one a member belonging to every other", it means that a poor member if a Christian Church should be able to benefit more from a Millionaire member of that same Church than the millionaire's earthly blood relative who is not a born again child of God.

We shall continue on this tomorrow.

DAY 14
A New Knowledge of God Ministries Daily Devotionals
14th February, 2024
Topic: Should Christians observe Valentine's Day?
Text: 1 Cor. 13:13

"So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

Anything that can make Christians show and practise love should be encouraged so long as that love is shown with the right motive and to the right persons. Apostle Paul tells us that love is far more important to God than even the faith that brings us to Jesus Christ and the hope that sustains us in Christ.

The story of how Valentine day came to be celebrated on February 14 is somewhat varied but report has it that the first Valentine was posted around 1806. Since then, almost one billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year on or near February 14 with females purchasing 85% of the cards. This is second only to the number of Christmas cards sent.

The history is somewhat murky as to how Valentine’s Day has come to be what we now know and celebrate. Saint Valentine served in third-century Rome. Emperor Claudius decided that single men made better soldiers. Therefore, Claudius banned soldiers from being married. One version of the story is that Valentine continued to perform the weddings of young soldiers who were in love, and Claudius had Valentine imprisoned. While imprisoned, Valentine reportedly fell in love with the jailer’s daughter. Valentine sent her a card and signed it, "Love, your Valentine." Another version is that Valentine defied Claudius by helping Christians escape the torture of the Romans.

Valentine died in approximately A.D. 270. Others claim the church may have decided to celebrate in mid February to "Christianize" the pagan Roman celebration Lupercalia. The first Valentine sent in the United States was in the 1840’s by Esther Howgald. Most of us enjoy "spoiling" a loved one on Valentine’s Day. Sending gifts and cards conveys love, affection, and friendship.

There is no biblical reason why Christians should not celebrate Valentine’s Day by giving their loved ones flowers, candy and/or cards. As with celebrating any holiday, the decision should be between the individual and God. Though some people feel very strongly that observing any secular holiday is wrong, but others see it as harmless.

The important thing to remember is that celebrating or not celebrating holidays should not be a cause for pride or division among Christians. It should also not be a ground to condemn other Christians and feel more righteous. There are many practices people attach righteousness to but which God doesn't authorise them to.

1 Cor. 16:14 says, "do everything in love". The love here is the pure love of God, not the illicit love young people practice that lead them to defiling their bodies or the ones married men and women have outside their married partners. Anyone indulging in those type of practices are not practicing love but living in sin of fornication and adultery. If they don't desist from these lifestyles, they'll end up in the hell fire.

13th February, 2024
Topic: Pray for those who treat you badly.
Text: Matthew 5:43-44 ERV

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies. Pray for those who treat you badly."

How many Christians today completely obey this injuction by Jesus Christ himself that we should pray for our enemies? This is the hardest part when it comes to being followers of Jesus Christ. It is easier for us to pray daily to God for protection, provisions and for all manner of miracles but do we stop to ask why we're not getting what we asked for? And when we do, do we ever query our level of obedience to his words?

How many Christians genuinely love their enemies and how many pray for those who are out to destroy them? Jesus was indirectly telling us to mimic God who gives rainfall and all manner of protection even to people who don't believe in Him. In Romans 5:8-10, we are told that:
"But God demonstrates his love toward us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

So if Jesus died for us when we were his enemies, living in sin and wickedness why is it hard for us to also love our enemies and go out of our ways, just as Jesus instructs us, to pray for them, no matter what they did to us. If we truly love God then we must obey his commandments, including this very one.

DAY 9
A New Knowledge of God Ministries Daily Devotionals
9th February, 2024
Topic: Bearing fruits worthy of repentance"
Text: Matthew 3:7-10 MSG

"When John realized that a lot of Pharisees and Sadducees were showing up for a baptismal experience because it was becoming the popular thing to do, he exploded: “Brood of snakes! What do you think you’re doing slithering down here to the river? Do you think a little water on your snakeskins is going to make any difference? It’s your life that must change, not your skin! And don’t think you can pull rank by claiming Abraham as father. Being a descendant of Abraham is neither here nor there. Descendants of Abraham are a dime a dozen. What counts is your life. Is it green and flourishing? Because if it’s deadwood, it goes on the fire."

The Pharisees and Saducees John was talking to are the Church goers today. They regale in the idea of going to Church and fulfilling all the Church doctrines to the later. For the Roman Catholics such practices like the Eucharist, Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, Penance, Reconciliation, Annointing of the sick etc.

Anglicans also accept the Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed as essential statements of their beliefs. There are only two sacraments, baptism and the Eucharist, but the Communion honours confirmation, ordination, marriage, reconciliation of the penitent, and unction of the sick as important. The list goes on and on.

Pentecostal churches today virtually have same beliefs and practices. Pentecostals believe in baptism through the Holy Spirit. They believe that the only way to become sanctified and freed from sin is to receive the Holy Spirit just as the apostles did after the crucifixion. They believe this is proven by the ability to speak in tongues.

What God is telling us through John the Baptist is that all these practices have nothing to do with your life as a Christian. It is your life that matters most to God. Bearing fruits worthy of repentance means that your life as a Christian should be a Gospel that can make someone give his or life to Christ. Is it possible? If it’s not, then look into your life again. Does your life and conduct fully evidence the fruits of the Holy Spirit as outlined in Galatians 5: 22-23 as follows: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control?
If you're lacking in any of these then you're not yet bearing the fruits worthy of repentance, if you like win all the awards in your Church for tithing, coming early to church, best singer, best Prayer warrior, best Usher, best Preacher, best this or best that.

God bless you.

DAY 8
A New Knowledge of God Ministries Daily Devotionals
8th February, 2024
Topic: Beware of the axe at your feet.
Text: Matthew 3:10
"And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is being cut down and thrown into the fire."

John the baptist was a prophet sent by God to foretell the coming of Jesus Christ, the son of God. The above statement was an information given to him by God. What this means is that each and everyone of us, yes, everyone of us, Pastors, Deacons, Evangelists, Prophets, General Overseers, Cleaners, Ushers, Prayer warriors, all of us, each one of us has an axe lying there near our feet. That axe is not forgotten near our feet. It is there for a purpose: to cut us down.
To cut us down when we fail to bear the right fruits.

In Matthew 7:17-20, Jesus said:
17 In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a rotten tree produces bad fruit.
18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree produce good fruit.
19 Every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 Therefore, you will know them by their fruits."

That is what the axe at our feet is going to do: to cut us down and throw us into the lake of fire. This cutting down used to be immediately during the old Testament but with the coming of Jesus Christ, a period of grace was created which restricts God's anger because of his son, Jesus Christ. Today, God has extended the cutting down till our lives on earth is over. So as long as we live, we shall have the opportunity to repent and turn away from our sins and begin to bear good fruits so that when we die we'll not be thrown into the lake of fire.

What this actually means is that we have a work to do to remove the axe down at our feet before we leave this earth. We can remove that axe by living a God-fearing life. After we give our lives to Christ, we're expected to begin to bear fruits of righteousness.
Tomorrow, we shall look at how we can do this?

DAY 7
A New Knowledge of God Ministries Daily Devotionals
7th February, 2024
Topic: What's the fruit of your repentance?
Text: Matthew 3:8

"Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance".

Fruit worthy of repentance means such things as ceasing from evil, learning to do good, making restitution to others when wrong has been done to them, restoring what is stolen, etc. In short, true repentance results in a new way of living that will be the reverse of the former ways (see 2 Chron 33:1-20; Ps 51; Isa 1:16-20; Ezek 18:30-32; Luke 3:10-14; 19:7-9; Acts 2:36-37; 9:1-2, 19-22).

As a Child of God, is your life a complete opposite of what it used to be in terms of the wrong and sinful lifestyles and behaviour that used to represent your personality. Do people see you today and marvel that there's indeed a great change between the old you and the new you. This is what true repentance characterises. God is happy when people see our new lifestyle and say truly this man has changed. In those moments God is glorified.

But this change is not complete when we fail to make restitution of our past misdeeds. To the extent we can, we're expected to return to people what we wrongly took from them, apologise to those we ostensibly wronged and repair the relationships we destroyed out of out reckless lifestyles. These are the main fruits of true repentance. True repentance doesn't stop at going to church daily and reading our Bible. There must be physical evidence and witnesses to what we claim to be repentance.

God bless you.

DAY 2
A New Knowledge of God Ministries Daily Devotionals
2nd February, 2024
Topic: Jesus is coming again
Text: 1 Cor. 15:52

Do Christians still go about their daily businesses with the mindset that Jesus is coming back again? The way we carry out our businesses in pursuit of riches and wealth, do we still pause to remember that a day will come, it may be today or tomorrow or the next, but certainly that day has been fixed by God and God alone when a trumpet shall sound in the skies above which shall signal the end of this present world.

Many people still find it difficult to believe that this world will come to an end one day. They will tell you it's not possible because since they were born, many generations have lived and died and the trumpet has not sounded. These set of people are the type of people that also don't believe in the salvation mission of Christ Jesus. But the Bible cannot lie. Doubting the Bible is like questioning the existence of God.

In John 14:3, Jesus told his disciples that he was going back to Heaven. He went on to say thus:
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also."

In Thess 4:16-17, the Bible said:
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air."

In Matt 24:31, the Bible recorded that:
"The great trumpet will sound, and he will send out his angels to the four corners of the earth, and they will gather his chosen people from one end of the world to the other."

Do we still remember these things today as Christians as we join the rabblerousers while chasing after the riches and the wealth of the world? Do we still go to churches with these expectations etched om our minds?

Next week, we shall begin a series on what and what that are expected of us as Christians in order to hear the trumpet of God.

DAY 1
A New Knowledge of God Ministries Daily Devotionals
1st February, 2024
Topic: It's a Leap Year
Text: 2 Cor 9:10

A leap year means there's an extra day in the calendar. "It takes approximately 365.25 days for Earth to orbit the Sun — a solar year. We usually round the days in a calendar year to 365. To make up for the missing partial day, we add one day to our calendar approximately every
four years

During non-leap years, aka common years – like 2022 – the calendar doesn't take into account the extra quarter of a day required by Earth to complete a single orbit.

In several places, leap years and 29 February in particular are considered to bring bad luck. A superstition in Greece holds that marriages that take place in a leap year will end in divorce, and in Scotland it's thought that those born on Leap Day will live a life of untold suffering.

These are mere superstition. It's what God says that matters. I bring good news to you today. The extra day in this year shall mark for you, a year of increase. I stand on the promise of God in 2 Cor 9:10 ESV that:

"He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness."

In addition to this, I stand on the authority of Mark 4:24 and pray that even when you have sowed and expect to be rewarded with the same measure you have sown, I pray that more shall be added to you. And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you."

All in all, this year shall be a year of increase for you and your family I'm Jesus name. Happy New month!
