📖 *THE ENDTIME CHURCH AND HER MEMBERS*
FROM CHURCH TO HELL
(Wednesday)
📌 *Memory Verse:* Revelation 3:17
_“Because you say, ‘I am rich, and have many possessions, and need nothing’, and do not know that you are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked._
✨ *Reflection:*
*Text: Revelation 3:14-20* 14-20 KJV
[14] And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
[15] I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would
thou wert cold or hot. [16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
[17] Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
[18] I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
[19] As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
[20] Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
*Author's comment*
Many years ago, devoted believers put up a sign in a church building saying: ‘Only Jesus’. Those two words expressed their great love for Him. After many years, the letters ‘Jes’ on the sign faded away, which caused all that was left to be: Only ’us’. This is the state of the Laodicean church, compared to the Church of our time. The church in Laodicea talks only about itself. The Name of the Lord Jesus has become a means of self-exaltation for them, not an object of love. They are rich, and they have the truth. They do not need others, for they have no lack of anything. But they do not know that they are miserable, etc. par excellence. They are blind to their situation, for what they spiritually represent. They do not even realise that the Lord is not with them anymore, but that He is standing outside the door.
The End-Time Church and her numerous subsets emanated from revivals of the nineteenth century. They indeed have their roots in what originally is a work of God’s Spirit, but the roots have withered. They boast of spiritual inheritance when there is no relation to the Heir. Christ is the measure of what the Church ought to be. He presents himself as “the Amen” because there is no new phase to be expected anymore in the Church age. The church was supposed to be a manifestation of the new creation; unfortunately, she has deviated from that, but Christ remains the same. The next thing to happen for the church is the rapture of the genuine believers in her.
In Laodicea (the Church mirrors our present-day Church), we see what happens when the light God has given to Philadelphia (the mirror of the Church in the days of true revival or reawakening) extinguishes. Or better said: when the warmth of the love for the Lord Jesus diminishes and lukewarmness arises. The church is boasting of spiritual riches, while there is no place for the Lord Jesus’ principles. He is excluded. The difference between Philadelphia (Church in the days of genuine revival) and Laodicea (Church of our generation) can be described from our verse in a very striking way, namely: Philadelphia (Church in the days of genuine revival) has nothing except the Lord, while Laodicea (Church of our generation) has everything except the Lord. Amazing!
Christians of our time are not as cold as Sardis (the church in the days of spiritual ignorance, when the knowledge of the Word of God was dim). Our generation has the complete Word of God, which is God’s comprehensive provision for changing lives at our fingertips, yet we are very lukewarm! Our lukewarmness consists of being full of ourselves instead of being full of Christ. The church is left on earth to testify of Christ, but she has abandoned that. Not only has the Church in our time stopped testifying to Christ, but it has started to testify of itself. That shows how deep she has fallen. The church becomes everything, and Christ disappears. The church makes herself attractive, not Christ or His mission.
To be lukewarm, in God’s concept, is to be undefined. The only thing that is left for the Lord to do is to vomit this apostate and undefined Church ‘out of His mouth’ (Rev.3:17). Before He vomits her out of His mouth, He is telling you and I who have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Churches what our tepidness consists of. He also advises us and gives individuals the opportunity to repent and act right. What will you do with it?
*Prayer point:*
May I not pass from Church to hell. Amen.
