*Devotional Message*

Life is full of distractions, disappointments, challenges, and competing voices that constantly seek to divert our attention from God. Many believers begin their Christian journey with great enthusiasm but become discouraged because they focus more on their problems than on the One who has power over every problem. The secret to a victorious Christian life is found in one simple instruction: "Looking unto Jesus."

The writer of Hebrews tells us to fix our eyes on Jesus because He is "the Author and Finisher of our faith." Jesus is the One who initiated our salvation, sustains our faith daily, and will bring His perfect work in us to completion. Our confidence is not in our own strength, wisdom, abilities, or achievements, but in Christ, who never fails.

Before Hebrews 12, the Bible presents a long list of heroes of faith in Hebrews 11. Yet after mentioning Abraham, Moses, Noah, Sarah, Joseph, and many others, Scripture does not tell us to fix our eyes on them. Instead, it directs our attention to Jesus, because while great men inspire us, only Christ can sustain and perfect our faith.

Peter experienced this truth while walking on water. As long as his eyes remained on Jesus, he walked above the storm. But the moment he shifted his focus to the wind and waves, fear entered his heart and he began to sink (Matthew 14:28–31). Likewise, whenever we focus more on our circumstances than on Christ, anxiety, doubt, and discouragement begin to replace faith.

Jesus Himself demonstrated unwavering focus during His earthly ministry. Though He endured rejection, betrayal, suffering, and the agony of the cross, He remained steadfast because He was focused on fulfilling the Father's will. Hebrews 12:2 tells us that "for the joy that was set before Him," He endured the cross. His eyes were fixed on the eternal victory beyond the temporary suffering.

As Christians, we must also learn to keep our eyes on Christ:

- In times of success, look unto Jesus so that pride will not overcome you.
- In times of failure, look unto Jesus for restoration and hope.
- In seasons of waiting, look unto Jesus for patience and strength.
- In persecution and trials, look unto Jesus for courage and endurance.
- In your workplace, business, ministry, and family life, look unto Jesus for wisdom and direction.

Looking unto Jesus means trusting His Word above human opinions. It means obeying Him even when it is difficult. It means depending on His grace rather than your own ability. It means refusing to allow the attractions of the world, the pressures of life, or the schemes of the enemy to shift your focus from God's purpose.

The Apostle Paul reflected this attitude when he declared:

Philippians 3:13–14 (NKJV)

*"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward thegoal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
Paul refused to allow his past failures, present sufferings, or future uncertainties to distract him from Christ. His eyes remained fixed on the heavenly prize, and that unwavering focus enabled him to finish his ministry victoriously.
The same principle applies to every believer today. We live in a world filled with distractions—material possessions, social status, financial pressures, worldly pleasures, disappointments, and even the opinions of others. If we are not careful, these things can slowly draw our hearts away from Christ. The enemy's strategy has always been to divert our attention from Jesus because he knows that whatever captures our focus ultimately influences our faith.
Looking unto Jesus means making Him the centre of our decisions, ambitions, relationships, career, business, ministry, and daily living. It means seeking His will before making plans, depending on His wisdom instead of human understanding, and trusting His promises even when circumstances appear contrary.
Isaiah reminds us:
Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)
"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You."
When our eyes remain on Jesus, fear gives way to faith, confusion gives way to wisdom, weakness gives way to strength, and anxiety gives way to peace. Christ is not only the Author of our faith; He is also its Sustainer and Perfecter. He never abandons the work He begins in the lives of His children.
As believers, we must intentionally remove every weight and every sin that hinders our spiritual progress. Hebrews 12:1 encourages us to lay aside everything that slows us down so that we can run our race with endurance. Every unnecessary distraction, unhealthy relationship, sinful habit, unforgiveness, bitterness, or worldly affection that competes with Christ must be surrendered to Him.
Remember, the Christian race is not a sprint but a marathon. It requires endurance, patience, unwavering faith, and constant dependence on Jesus. Those who keep looking unto Him will never be disappointed because He is faithful to complete what He has started.
Today, make a fresh commitment to keep your eyes on Jesus—not on people, not on circumstances, not on your limitations, and not on the uncertainties of tomorrow. The One who called you is faithful. He will guide your steps, strengthen your heart, uphold you by His grace, and bring you safely to the glorious finish He has prepared for you..

Prayer Points

Father, help me to keep my eyes continually fixed on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith. Let no challenge, temptation, or distraction take my focus away from You. (Hebrews 12:2)

Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith to endure every trial with patience and perseverance. Help me to trust Your promises and remain steadfast until I finish my race victoriously. (Hebrews 12:1–3)

Holy Spirit, empower me to walk in obedience, unwavering faith, and complete dependence on Christ. Let my life glorify God as I faithfully pursue His divine purpose. (Philippians 3:13–14)

*Devotional*

Christianity is more than a confession of faith; it is the transformation of the heart into the likeness of Jesus Christ. The true proof of our faith is not merely found in attending church services, singing in the choir, preaching powerful sermons, or performing religious activities. The true evidence of genuine Christianity is a Christ-like character. Christian character is the center point of our faith because it reflects the life of Christ to a watching world.

The Apostle Paul reminds believers in *2 Corinthians 5:17 . "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."* Salvation is therefore not only a change of destination but also a change of disposition. A transformed heart should produce a transformed life.

Jesus Himself taught that believers are the light of the world. Light does not announce itself; it shines naturally. Likewise, a Christian of godly character influences others without striving for recognition. Our honesty, humility, patience, purity, compassion, forgiveness, and integrity become powerful testimonies that point people to Christ. This is why *Philippians 2:15 (NKJV) says, "...that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world."*

Sadly, many believers today place greater emphasis on spiritual gifts than on spiritual character. We celebrate public ministry while neglecting private holiness. Yet God is more concerned with who we are becoming than with what we are doing. Character sustains what gifts can never preserve. It is possible to possess gifts and still lack godliness, but God desires both.

The moral decline seen in society has also found expression among many who profess Christ. Dishonesty, greed, unforgiveness, pride, sexual immorality, hatred, envy, corruption, and hypocrisy have weakened the testimony of the Church. This is contrary to God's expectation. *1 Peter 1:15–16 (NKJV) declares: "But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, 'Be holy, for I am holy.'"* Holiness is not optional for the believer; it is God's standard for every Christian.

Christian character is developed through daily fellowship with God, obedience to His Word, and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. It is the fruit of a surrendered life. As *Galatians 5:22–23 (NKJV) teaches, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law."* These qualities distinguish genuine disciples of Christ from those who merely profess His name.

As believers, we must never forget that people are watching our lives. Our families, colleagues, neighbours, classmates, and even unbelievers often form their opinion of Christ by observing His followers. Therefore, every Christian should strive to live in such a way that Christ is glorified through both words and conduct. As *Colossians 3:12 (NKJV) exhorts: "Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering."*

May our greatest pursuit never be fame, influence, or recognition, but becoming more like Jesus Christ every day. For when our character reflects Christ, our faith becomes visible, our witness becomes effective, and God receives the glory.

- *What attitudes or habits that does not conform with the bible,do I need to surrender to the Holy Spirit?*
- *Can people see Jesus in my conversations, relationships, and decisions?*
- *If every believer lived the way I do, would the Church become stronger?*
