*DEVELOPING CHRISTIAN CHARACTER*
James 1:21-27
Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27
As the Word of God builds our character, it must reflect to the world what stuff we are made of. They must be able to see clearly and appreciate the right course of action with the light of Christ they see in us. When they perceive the fragrance of His love as revealed by us, they must come to appreciate all that is called Christianity. As we demonstrate the sweet and matchless character of excellent neighborliness, the people around us need to enjoy the taste of the goodness of God through us.
The character God is building in us is that which keeps us unspotted from the world, where we are perpetually surrounded by evil. In Jesus high priestly prayer for His disciples, He emphasized the need for us not to conform to the world but to transform the world (John 17:15). By this prayer, the Father is planting in us a different and superior spirit that can positively influence our environment through character building. A spirit that helps us to be the change and bring a change to our community while we are right in their midst.
Secondly, God is pleased with whom we have become through His working upon us when we are practical in our approach to the needs of people. To be help the needy and visit those in affliction is indeed pure and undefiled religion before God. In so doing, we relate to the troubles brethren are going through in their daily lives.
*Quote:* Where the conditions of life are hard, we are strengthened in Christian character.
*Prayer:* May I be louder in my acts of Christian service and good deeds to men than in my selfish requests for daily food. Amen
