It's the week of our 13th year anniversary and we decided to kick off celebrations by honouring our VETERAN MEMBERS.
From the very beginning, through every rehearsal, ministration, and milestone, they have journeyed with unwavering commitment to the choir.
Meet Pastor Joshua Afolabi (Co founder)

◽First Rehearsal Memory
One of my earliest and most memorable rehearsal experiences was preparing for our first concert, during which we performed the Chandos Anthem No. 9 by George Frideric Handel. At that time, I always switched from singing Tenor and Baritone, and the rehearsals were both intense and inspiring as we worked together to bring the music to life.
Our rehearsals have always been engaging and memorable. They were moments of musical discipline, teamwork, patience, and spiritual connection. In addition to singing, I have had the privilege of serving as an accompanist for the choir whenever required, such as playing Ubangiji on a global stage during our competition, which has been a wonderful opportunity for me to contribute musically in different capacities. Our rehearsal memories are something I can't forget for a very long time. Our rehearsal memory began in Mr. Aderayo's office, then moved to the DSO orchestra rehearsal hall, and later to my parlor due to space constraints. The COVID-19 era forced us to move to the church hall, which has been an awesome memory I won't forget at all.
◽Favourite MTC ministration:
There have been many remarkable ministrations over the years. Our first concert remains special because it proved to us that our vision was truly achievable, and now it is history. Another unforgettable moment was during our ABRSM Advanced Choral Examination when the examiner was deeply moved by our performance and said we were truly a spiritual choir, recognizing the presence of God in our ministration. The 9th Johannes Brahms International Choral Competition in Germany was another highlight. Our performance of Bigi Man was electrifying and helped introduce Mountain Top Chorale to the global stage. I also deeply love the piece Eru Oba ni mo ba Oba to, which reflects the fear of God, His majesty, and the reverence we must have for Him. More so, pieces like “See the Gypsies, Mo Fe gbo ohun re(I want to hear your voice), Jubilee ken ken, Gunugun i ku le we, Crucifixus, Italian Salad” are awesome and recent remarkable pieces like "Helele" and “Hold on,” which we performed in New Zealand were amazing. There are many other powerful ministrations I cherish too many to count.
◽What being a part of MTC means to you:
Being part of Mountain Top Chorale means being part of something greater than just music. It is a ministry, a family, and a platform for excellence. Through MTC, I have had the privilege of sharpening and growing my musical gifts and my spiritual life while serving God through music at Mountain of Fire and Ministry (MFM). It has also allowed me to represent the church on international stages—a great opportunity given to us by our Father in the Lord, Dr. D.K. Olukoya, and our mother in the Lord, Dr. (Mrs.) Folasade Olukoya. We say, thank you, sir, and Ma. I truly love this awesome family.
◽Advice to prospective choristers:
My advice to prospective choristers is to always believe that it is possible and achievable if you set your mind to it. Excellence requires dedication, discipline, and ongoing learning.
Consistently work on enhancing your musical skills and stay committed to rehearsals and personal practice. Most importantly, learn to work well with others because choral singing is a team effort. When everyone gives their best, the result is a powerful ministry that can inspire others and bring glory to God. Don't be lazy; avoid procrastination and seize every moment to improve yourself. If you do so, the sky is the limit. God bless you all.
