There’s something sacred about the moments before the rehearsal starts. Before we find our keys and harmonize our voices, we find and fix our focus on the Lord.
Because for us at MTC, we believe the best harmonies come from a place of prayer.
We couldn't help but capture this moment of worship during our recent rehearsal.

It has been 13 years of raising our voices in sweet, melodious harmonies to the glory of God. From intensive rehearsals to the effortless and beautiful ministrations on service days, and even to representing the Church of God and our nation with excellence on global stages.

Today, we come together—united with one voice and one mind—to bless the Most High God for His grace and preservation through the years.

Happy 13th Year Anniversary, Mountain Top Chorale — God’s Glorious Minstrels.

It's the week of our 13th year anniversary and we decided to kick off celebrations by honouring our VETERAN MEMBERS.

From the very beginning, through every rehearsal, ministration, and milestone, they have journeyed with unwavering commitment to the choir.

Meet Aderayo Oyegbade (Founder)

◽What inspired the creation of the Mountain Top Chorale 13 years ago?
First and foremost it was pictures, then a change of environment/ vacation and finally a video i stumbled on while watching YouTube. The pictures planted the seed, the vacation birthed hunger and the video fueled my passion to start MTC. When I got back from the US Jan 2013 I asked the GO of MFM again after 4 years if I could start a chamber choir and he agreed this time and that’s how MTC started with a few people March, 2013.

◽How many members were in the choir when it first started?
I would say there were 13 members in the first concert even though we were slightly fewer in the very beginning.

◽What was the first rehearsal like and most memorable ministration?
I remember the first rehearsal was in my small office in the boys quarters of the Mountain Top International Music School (MIMS) on Iwaya road. Only a few of us could stay in the office and because rehearsal started by 6pm sometimes the first set of rehearsals ended abruptly because of darkness. We practiced the choruses from Chandos anthem no. 9 by G.F. Handel. Our most memorable ministration I remember even though there are so many i can point to was during the competition in South Africa in 2018 when we sang Mimo (Holy) Eru oba ni mo ba (by Olaolu Lawal) and of course Biggi Man (arr. Dr Ayo Oluranti) which had over a million views on facebook and got a lot of people asking for the name and church origin of MTC.

◽What has leading or founding this choir taught you personally?
Resilience- never give up on your dreams no matter the obstacles.
Audacity- Be daring and fearless and never lower your standards for anyone.
Find your tribe- when you find your people they will support you even when you are not there.

◽My Advice to prospective choristers -
MTC is a platform for spiritual maturity, musical growth and development, and endless opportunities. When you get an opportunity to serve in MTC give it all you’ve got cos as i always say the way you do the work of God will determine the way God will do your work for you too.

Meet Pastor Joshua Afolabi (Co founder)

◽Voice part: Baritone

◽First Rehearsal Memory
One of my earliest and most memorable rehearsal experiences was preparing for our first concert, during which we performed the Chandos Anthem No. 9 by George Frideric Handel. At that time, I always switched from singing Tenor and Baritone, and the rehearsals were both intense and inspiring as we worked together to bring the music to life.
Our rehearsals have always been engaging and memorable. They were moments of musical discipline, teamwork, patience, and spiritual connection. In addition to singing, I have had the privilege of serving as an accompanist for the choir whenever required, such as playing Ubangiji on a global stage during our competition, which has been a wonderful opportunity for me to contribute musically in different capacities. Our rehearsal memories are something I can't forget for a very long time. Our rehearsal memory began in Mr. Aderayo's office, then moved to the DSO orchestra rehearsal hall, and later to my parlor due to space constraints. The COVID-19 era forced us to move to the church hall, which has been an awesome memory I won't forget at all.

◽Favourite MTC ministration:
There have been many remarkable ministrations over the years. Our first concert remains special because it proved to us that our vision was truly achievable, and now it is history. Another unforgettable moment was during our ABRSM Advanced Choral Examination when the examiner was deeply moved by our performance and said we were truly a spiritual choir, recognizing the presence of God in our ministration. The 9th Johannes Brahms International Choral Competition in Germany was another highlight. Our performance of Bigi Man was electrifying and helped introduce Mountain Top Chorale to the global stage. I also deeply love the piece Eru Oba ni mo ba Oba to, which reflects the fear of God, His majesty, and the reverence we must have for Him. More so, pieces like “See the Gypsies, Mo Fe gbo ohun re(I want to hear your voice), Jubilee ken ken, Gunugun i ku le we, Crucifixus, Italian Salad” are awesome and recent remarkable pieces like "Helele" and “Hold on,” which we performed in New Zealand were amazing. There are many other powerful ministrations I cherish too many to count.

◽What being a part of MTC means to you:
Being part of Mountain Top Chorale means being part of something greater than just music. It is a ministry, a family, and a platform for excellence. Through MTC, I have had the privilege of sharpening and growing my musical gifts and my spiritual life while serving God through music at Mountain of Fire and Ministry (MFM). It has also allowed me to represent the church on international stages—a great opportunity given to us by our Father in the Lord, Dr. D.K. Olukoya, and our mother in the Lord, Dr. (Mrs.) Folasade Olukoya. We say, thank you, sir, and Ma. I truly love this awesome family.

◽Advice to prospective choristers:
My advice to prospective choristers is to always believe that it is possible and achievable if you set your mind to it. Excellence requires dedication, discipline, and ongoing learning.
Consistently work on enhancing your musical skills and stay committed to rehearsals and personal practice. Most importantly, learn to work well with others because choral singing is a team effort. When everyone gives their best, the result is a powerful ministry that can inspire others and bring glory to God. Don't be lazy; avoid procrastination and seize every moment to improve yourself. If you do so, the sky is the limit. God bless you all.

Meet Oluwasegun Okedunmola (Conductor).

◽Voice part: Baritone

◽First experience rehearsing or ministering with MTC:
My first opportunity to conduct the Mountain Top Chorale was at the Global Minister’s retreat. It wasn’t meant to have but I had to jump in because we were espected to have been singing but the current conductor at the time, Mr Emmanuel Dabere, had not gotten into the hall. I was happy to have done my best in controlling the situation at the time.

◽How has your journey in the choir evolved over the years?
I joined MTC as a baritone singer in 2014, and I did that up until 2023. Within those years, I also served at one point or the other as the choir librarian and an assistant conductor. Serving as the current choral conductor of this wonderful group has presented me with an opportunity to continue to build on what my predecessor had built.

◽Did you ever imagine that you would one day become the conductor of MTC?
No, I didn’t. I had other plans for myself. However, my preparation met opportunity.

◽What has been the biggest adjustment moving from singing within the choir to conducting?
My decisions doesn’t affect me alone. I am responsible for the growth of over 50 members of the ensemble. This weight makes me seek opportunities to improve myself.

◽My Advice to choristers:
Hmmmm.. I will share the same advice I got from Maestro Michael Vollhardt.
• Be good on your instrument (the voice)
• Have good listening ears
• Treat people well

Meet Helen Omoshaba

◽Voice part: Soprano

◽First Rehearsal Memory:
🤭 I always laugh when I remember my first rehearsal.
I was the only soprano seated that day, and the piece we were rehearsing was Gloria in Excelsis, i joined some months after the Maiden concert 2013,After a very serious Audition..Honestly, the notes were dancing everywhere🤭
At the same time, I kept thinking about the long journey from Yaba to Ijaiye, and my brain was seriously hot🤣 but our conductor was there to help yeaaah.
Funny, how someone said I couldn't cope because to him, I don't fit in. Today we are here😁🤭.

◽Favorite MTC Ministration:
There are so many ministrations that have touched my heart deeply while ministering. Some of them even brought me to tears on the altar.
A few that stand out are:IWO TO FE WA, Rabata, Hold On, among many others that carried powerful moments in God's presence.

◽What Being Part of MTC Means to Me:
MTC represents greatness, excellence, and intentional service to God. It has been a place of growth for me. I joined as one of the youngest and most timid member, but over the years, this choir has shaped me in ways I never imagined;Musically,Spirituallyand personally.
Now it's been 13 years of elevation, growth, and opportunities ministering both in Nigeria and internationally, representing God, Nigeria, and MFM not forgetting to leave footprints of excellence everywhere we go.

◽Advice to Prospective Choristers:
My honest advice is simple, come with a heart ready to serve.
Excellence requires dedication, discipline, and commitment.
Keep improving your musicality, stay committed to learning and embrace the part of growth...

Looking back at the journey of Mountain Top Chorale, we acknowledge the faithfulness of God in our lives and His grace upon us all to use our gifts and talents to glorify His name everywhere we go.

At the 10th World Choir Games held in Tshwane, South Africa in July 2018, we performed the song 'Ubangiji Duniya' arranged by Chinedum Osinigwe

Enjoy the beautiful sound as we relive cherished memories of MTC's choral journey in the last 13 years.

Meet Adédaramólá Oláòré

◽Voice part: Baritone

◽First rehearsal memory:
It was pastor Joshua, the assistant of the group leader that invited me to the choir.
I'm probably the last person to get in without our usual rigorous auditioning exercise.
My first rehearsal ?
Can't remember too well but I recall Mr. Derayo, making it very clear that it was nothing like wherever you were coming from in terms of focus, time management, sight-reading, good singing, dynamics, plenty of choreography & so on.
I was the only baritone but sometimes pastor joins me.

◽Favorite MTC ministration:
That would be Bigi Man.
Derayo just gave the song a new spark by twitching the tempo.
Looked forward to singing it everytime then.
Then there was Isé-Orin & the spirituals too.

◽What being a part of MTC means to you:
Literally the very best thing that has happened to me in this church.
Used to sing with the Laz Ekwueme Chorale and I was going to return to the group again after my Munson School but it was at that time that I was invited.
Never looked back since.
Monday rehearsal was the climax of my day no matter how long the day has been.
This group does much good to me like a quick sonic medicine or therapy.

◽Advice to prospective choristers:
Now it's not all rosy & bloomy.
It comes with a lot of passion, commitment, sacrifice & willingness to work with people of like mind.
With this you have so much to gain in both the long & short run.
Work hard to be able to stand alone even though you are an integral part of the whole.
God bless you.
