THE BURNING BUSH Exodus 3:1-22
The Burning Bush Experience** refers to the pivotal encounter of Moses, while tending sheep in the wilderness, sees a bush burning with fire yet not consumed. This divine interruption revealed God's presence during ordinary life, called Moses out of anonymity as a shepherd, and commissioned him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. It marked a turning point of total submission, reverence, and transformation.
Key Aspects
- Divine Interruption: Moses daily routine became disrupted. God manifested in a blazing fire within the bush that did not burn it up. The revelation was the combination of divinity and humanity in the same place.
- Call to Purpose: God shifted Moses from routine shepherding to a prophetic mission. The call was an answer to a cry. This cry is not ordinary, it’s a cry that is mixed with God’s agenda. So, there was no time for Moses to rethink the mission. It must be now
- Holiness and Submission: encounter with God comes with spiritual demands and discipline. Moses was instructed to remove his sandals as he stood on holy ground, emphasizing reverence and surrender.
- Turning Point: the encounter that day served as a "divine arrest" that permanently altered Moses' life trajectory.
What does this mean?
The unconsumed bush symbolizes God's merciful presence, allowing connection with humanity without destruction. It illustrates that God speaks during mundane, everyday activities and can interrupt ordinary routines to reveal a higher calling. Individuals today may experience their own "burning bush" moments—times when God demands a shift from complacency to action, requiring curiosity, reverence, obedience, and awareness to recognize His presence in the familiar.
Four things you should do to secure your Personal Burning Bush Experience
1. Move outside your comfort zone:
Moses led the sheep to the mountain of God. Moses turning aside to investigate the unusual sight, destiny requires that you STOP leaving an ordinary live. You must stay faithful in the mundane as serve diligently (as Moses did with the flock) even in isolation or difficulty, doing all work unto God.
2. Be willing to seek God:
When God calls your name, respond immediately with "Here I am," seeking Him in all circumstances. Approach God's presence with awe, humility, and thanksgiving always, not just in crisis. Present yourself as a living sacrifice. Everything you are required i.e. experience, skill, and even mistakes become tools for His glory and purpose.
3. Obedience to divine instructions:
Study the Bible and do what it says, even when directions seem illogical. Obedience flows from intimacy with God's Word and presence. Trust God's calling and enabling; He provides the ability and opportunity for what He assigns.
4. Leave a constant life no variation:
God promises His constant presence and support—"I will never leave you nor forsake you. Through the Holy Spirit, believers receive dunamis (ability) and exousia (authority) over the enemy, enabling victory and effective witness. He captures attention through ordinary elements, turning them into opportunities for divine encounter.
Practical Reflections on Awareness
God is always present, but we often miss Him due to distraction or lack of spiritual awareness. Moses demonstrated the power of pausing, turning aside, and truly looking. Spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation, contemplation, and journaling help shorten the gap between encountering God and recognizing it in real time. Rather than ignoring "burning bushes" in daily life, cultivate open eyes and hearts to respond promptly to God's call.
A missed encounter has a far-reaching effect on you and your heavenly purpose. However God is merciful, He is in charge. His purpose his constant only the players changes.
