Topic: Develop Spiritual Attributes
Galatians 5:22-23 says it is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Christianity is not just what you believe. It is who you become.
God saved you so that Christ can be formed in you. This happens as you grow in spiritual attributes. These are the ways of Jesus that the Holy Spirit wants to build in your heart and life.
2 Peter 1:5-8 tells us to add to our faith goodness, knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love.
When these things grow in you, your life will not be empty or useless. Ephesians 4:13 says God wants us to grow until we reach the full measure of Christ.
You must develop these attributes because gifts alone cannot keep you. Samson had power but lacked self-control, and it cost him everything. Saul had a throne but lacked obedience, and he lost it. Gifts can lift you up, but only godly character will keep you there.
Your spiritual attributes also show how mature you are. Hebrews 5:14 says strong meat is for those who have trained their senses to know good from evil. Babies cry for gifts, but sons grow in character. And your attributes are your witness to the world. People may argue with what you say, but they cannot deny your love, your peace, and your honesty.
So how do you grow in these attributes? Look to Jesus every day. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says as we behold Him, we are changed into His image. Stay in the Word and in worship. Yield to the Holy Spirit, because you cannot produce this fruit by your own strength. Submit to the process God is taking you through. James 1:4 says let patience do its work so you may be complete. Practice these things daily. Choose love when you feel anger. Choose peace when you feel afraid. Choose forgiveness when you are hurt.
God cares more about who you are becoming than what you are doing. Ministry without character is empty. Power without purity is dangerous. Do not only pray for anointing. Pray to become like Jesus. Hallelujah!
Prayer
Holy Spirit, I open my heart to You today. Develop Your attributes in me. Make me more like Jesus in my words, my thoughts, and my actions. Help me to walk in love, patience, and self-control every day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
If you are not born again, make this confession now:
O Lord, I believe in my heart in Jesus Christ. I believe He died for me, and God raised Him from the dead. I confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my Life from this day. In His Name, I have eternal Life. I am a child of God. Amen.
