KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS
The Gospel of Matthew 14:28–30
“And Peter answered Him and said, ‘Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.’ So He said, ‘Come.’ … But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, ‘Lord, save me!’”
Life is filled with moments of pressure, uncertainty, and challenges that can easily shift our attention away from God. In the story of Peter, we see a powerful lesson: as long as he focused on Jesus, he was able to do the impossible. However, the moment he shifted his attention to the wind and the storm around him, fear entered his heart, and he began to sink.
This shows us that what we focus on has the power to either sustain us or overwhelm us.
Many believers today find themselves in the same position as Peter. Instead of focusing on Jesus Christ, they focus on sickness, failure, delay, disappointment, and the storms of life. God never promised a life without trials, but He promised His presence in every situation. When your eyes are fixed on Christ, peace and strength will rule your heart even when everything around you is unstable.
Paul and Silas also demonstrated this truth when they were imprisoned. Instead of complaining or losing hope, they prayed and praised God, and their focus invited God’s power, which broke their chains. In the same way, when we magnify God instead of our problems, our challenges begin to lose their grip on our lives, and we begin to experience divine intervention.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen my faith when I am weak and fill my heart with peace that surpasses all understanding. Lord, help me to trust in Your promises at all times. Let my eyes remain fixed on You in every season of my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
