Does the Bible say we really have to go to church?
Here’s what the Bible says:
Hebrews 10:25 -Let us not neglect our church meetings, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.
You don’t have to go to church if you choose, but you should go. Plus, the Bible encourages us that we should not “neglect” church meetings. Why? God places great importance on us as a people fellowshipping and worshipping together. You cannot grow in your Christian faith by being a “stand-alone” Christian. We all need each other and God designed us for relationships.Fellowshipping with our Christian brothers and Sisters are good for encouragement, strengthening, growing in the things of God and learning how to be part of a unified team while expressing your own individuality. There are also gifts that others have that you do not posses that you can benefit from and there are gifts, abilities and talents that you have that can bless someone else. By failing to assemble, someone is missing out on what God has given you to contribute into that church body and into their lives.
Ephesians 4:15–16 - Instead, we will lovingly follow the truth at all times—speaking truly, dealing truly, living truly]—and so become more and more in every way like Christ who is the Head of his body, the Church. Under his direction, the whole body is fitted together perfectly, and each part in its own special way helps the other parts, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
So it’s always good to assemble with your Christian brothers and Sisters. Also, remember, you don’t “go” to church. Remember that you are the church. The church is not a physical building, a denomination or a church movement. The Greek word for “church” is the word “ekklesia”, which means “called out ones”….or “people”. You never, in a sense, “go to church”. You, as a member of the church meet and assemble.
