SEEK GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART

Date: Saturday, September 24, 2022

Bible Text: Jeremiah 29:13-14

Memory Verse: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13, NIV

The reformer, Martin Luther, said: “I have so much to do today that I must spend the first three hours with God in prayer before starting the day.” Can you imagine such an intensity of longing to spend time in God’s presence?”
Our anchor text reveals an eternal and timeless divine principle that holds true for everyone that if we seek the Lord with all our heart, He will reveal Himself to us. The restoration of the Israelites is predicted on their returning to God with the whole of their hearts. When we encounter God, the needs and challenges that we have in the natural realm will be handled.
To seek after God indicates a diligent quest and pursuit after God with an attitude of earnestness to live in fellowship with Him. It entails getting serious about finding God more than anything else and entering a deeper level of intimacy with Him. Many seek the help of men and go empty-handed in disappointment, but those who seek God do not return empty-handed but with turnaround encounters and restoration of their fortunes. God wants you to seek Him, know Him, and love Him more.

Insight: It takes a heart that is sold out to God to go far with God.

Prayer: Lord, I want You more than anything else. Reveal Yourself to me.

TEACH SOUND DOCTRINE

Date: Monday, September 05, 2022

Bible Text: Titus 2:1-10

Memory Verse: “You however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.” Titus 2:1, NIV

Howard Hendricks, in his book, Teaching to Change Lives, argues that every teacher is meant to help their students achieve a change of life. As true as this is, it can only be possible if the teacher is mindful of what he teaches. The teacher ought to know what a sound doctrine is if he wishes to impact the right knowledge.
Every believer in Jesus Christ needs to be given the correct recipe that would enhance his or her spiritual growth. For older men, sound doctrine involves instructing them to live a life worthy of respect (vs. 2); older women are to be taught to live reverently, so as to be able to also teach younger women how to live correctly (vs. 3-4); younger men are to be taught self-control (vs. 6). The person who has been mandated to teach all these age groups is expected to live an exemplary life (vs. 7).
Did you know that God has made you a teacher to some people? The important thing is to impact sound doctrine that will enhance a good living in others. Be a good example!

Insight: A student who is learning from a teacher is a reflection of the teacher.

Prayer: Father, enable me to impart the right kind of knowledge that will help my listeners.

LOVE NOT THE WORLD

Date: Saturday, September 03, 2022

Bible Text: 1 John 2:15-17

Memory Verse: “Do not love the world or anything in the world… The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives for ever.” 1 John 2:15a; 17, NIV

The German poet, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, said that “we are shaped and fashioned by what we love.” This is true, since love is an affection that affects every aspect of life. Hence, it is dangerous to throw your weight of love on what will not last. Viewing this from the lens of the Scriptures would be helpful.
God warns us about the danger of loving the world and the things in the world (vs. 15). The ‘world’, as used is a reference to specific systems that put us against the desires of God. These systems are demonstrated through the aspiration to always desire your own way, and for yourself (vs. 16, Msg.). These things you crave for is temporary. Expressing this kind of love affects you, and makes you an enemy of God and the things of God.
Set your priorities right, as you interact with the systems of the world. Make up your mind and refrain your eyes from misleading you. Submit yourself to the leadership of the Lord and live in obedience to His counsel. You will be glad you did.

Insight: The things that entice the most are dangerous.

Prayer: Father, take total control of my affections. Engrave your love in my heart.

SANCTIFICATION

Date: Monday, August 22, 2022

Bible Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-7

Memory Verse: “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified…” 1 Thessalonians 4:3a, NIV

As a child, I knew my mum had plates that are set apart for special occasions such as Easter and Christmas. Such plates are treated with honour and not to be handled carelessly by any one because they are special and separated from other plates.
Christians are expected to live a separated life. This does not imply living in solitude and refusing to relate with the world, but to be distinct in attitude and behaviours. This kind of life pleases God (1 Thessalonians 4:1). One of the aspects of life God expects His children especially young and unmarried folks to be separated is their sexuality. Even though sexual immorality has become a societal norm, God expects them to avoid it and live in chastity. This should be demonstrated by controlling what the body is used for and an avoidance of lustful activities (1 Thess. 4:4-5), because God wants us as believers to be clean, in and out, at all times.
Are there activities you engage in that indicate an abuse of your consecration as a believer in Christ Jesus? Resolve to drop such today and live in holiness unto the Lord.

Insight: A change in the inner man ensures the outer man lives a separated life.

Prayer: Lord, sanctify me by Your Word.

THE ONLY WAY

TEXT: JOHN 14:1-7

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6, NIV

Someone asked, “Why does a loving God send people to hell?” A man answered, “God doesn’t send anyone to hell, but people choose to go to hell when they reject Jesus – the only way to paradise!”

The event in today’s passage took place in the evening before the Cross, maybe close to midnight. Every moment here is packed with doctrine. Jesus is pouring out things that are going to be needed by the disciples in the days to come. This is a part of the journey He had decided to take in order to make way for man to get to the kingdom of God. Perfect full fellowship and everlasting life are made possible through only Jesus Christ. No one can have spiritual life unless they have it through Christ Jesus. This means that no one has a relationship with the ultimate source of all life in the Father unless it is through the Son. This says dogmatically that no religion is correct. The only way to God is through historical biblical Christianity (through the path of Christ).

Let everyone who cares to know be informed that, Jesus is not one way among many, but the only way to God (John 14:6). Therefore make your request known to God through Jesus Christ.

Insight: The embodiment of God is Jesus Himself.

Prayer: Lord, let people receive the great love of God through Jesus Christ.

THE REDEEMING GRACE

Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2022

Bible Text: Titus 2:11-14

Memory Verse: “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared that offers salvation to all people.” Titus 2:11, NIV

During a prison ministry, the school gospel theatre presented a drama about a criminal who was guilty of a crime. The governor intervened, pardoned the man and the prisoners cheered wildly. The drama group then presented the gospel of the redeeming power of Jesus. Many of the prisoners were touched, saved and rededicated their lives to the Lord.
Today’s Bible passage briefly describes the effect the redeeming grace should have on believers. It encourages rejection of ungodliness and leads to holier living – in keeping with Paul’s repeated insistence that profession of Christ be accompanied by godly living.
Like in the above narrated drama, all people of all wealth and social standing, are equally in need of the grace of God in salvation. For there is no place or lasting value on earth or in heaven without our reception of the grace of God. As a Christian, you must be preoccupied with the grace of God. Everything centers round the gospel. Lead others to a saving knowledge of the Saviour and live with the expectation of His return daily (vs.13). ‘Yes I am coming soon’ (Revelation 22:20b) Live each day as if it is your last on earth before He comes to reward us.

Insight: The redeeming grace of God can be found everywhere even in prison.

Prayer: Lord, prepare me as a living sanctuary for you.

PRAISE GOD FOR SALVATION

Date: Monday, May 09, 2022

Bible Text: Jonah 2:1-9

Memory Verse: ‘But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say “Salvation comes from the LORD.’” Jonah 2:9, NIV

Akeem was raised a Muslim in his home until his mid-20s. When he came to faith in Jesus, he was driven away from his home and community. Today, he uses his music and drama skills to share his faith with others. Recently he saw a group of university students packed tightly in a room at the University. The student body is 98% Muslim. Akeem joined them saying simply, “I am a story-teller.” His audience was immediately attentive, with his sonorous voice, he shared his conversion experience and praised God for his salvation with his music. Souls were harvested.

Like Akeem who sings and praises God for his salvation, the Bible passage for today’s devotion is Jonah’s song of thanksgiving for deliverance from death in the sea. Jonah recalls his prayer for help as he was sinking into the depths. His gratitude is heightened by his knowledge that he deserved death but that God had shown him extraordinary mercy.

In everything you must give thanks and praise to God. Have you praised God for your salvation today? Under your salvation lies everything you need to praise God on daily basis – grace, spiritual wealth, spiritual gifts, ultimate sanctification, forgiveness or sins, protection from evil, divine provision.

Insight: Salvation is from God only.

Prayer: O Lord, let your praises continually be in my mouth.

CHOOSE YOUR MASTER WISELY

Date: Sunday, April 24, 2022

Bible Text: Luke 16:13-15

Memory Verse: “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Luke 16:13, NIV

During elections, several people campaigned for different candidates, however, one person will finally emerged for such a post. Usually, the winner has always forsaken the people for their own selfish interest by seeking after his or her welfare, and neglecting the people. Most time, people choose wrongly.
During one of His special teaching sessions, Jesus Christ taught His audience the importance of faithfulness in handling business. This made Him tell the story of a dishonest manager. The manager played smart and the master praised him but he was dishonest. Jesus condemned the manager's action and He taught the audience the key to faithfulness in handling resources. He taught that it is in choosing that you know who controls your life.
Money has spirit, which controls humankind, and it leads them to unfaithfulness and corruption. But, if God controls a person, he will be able to faithfully handle anything under his or her care. Who have you chosen to be your master, God or money? If you choose God, He will keep you above corruption and He will bless you in all you do.

Insight: The love of money is a bad master.

Prayer: God, I yield my heart to you, take Your place, occupy the center therein and be my Lord in Jesus name.

RECONCILED WITH GOD

Date: Saturday, April 23, 2022

Bible Text: 2 Corinthians 5:18-21

Memory Verse: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God." 2 Corinthians 5:20, NIV

Sometimes ago, a team was raised to reconcile two conflicting parties in a local Church. The process was very difficult and dangerous. After a while, party A decided to forgive the other group and reconcile but party B remained adamant and stubborn. The members of party B insisted that their demands ought to be met at all costs. At the end of the day, the Church split into two.
Like the role of the reconciliation team, Apostle Paul reveals that Christians are in this world to reconcile men to God. Sin estranges humankind from God, but God offers forgiveness through Christ Jesus. Whoever accepts the gospel and turns away from sin will become a child and a friend of God. That is the gospel!
My friend, God is seeking for meaningful intimate relationship with the people around you. Hold no grudge against anyone, He depends on you to initiate the reconciliation between them and God. Without you taking a deliberate effort, they may never be saved from sin, Satan and the destruction of the world. God is sending you out today. Do the work of reconciliation!

Insight: God depends on you to save sinners.

Prayer: Dear Father, lead me to those who are ready to be saved today!

PERSUADED BY GOD'S LOVE

Date: Friday, April 22, 2022

Bible Text: 2 Corinthians 5:11-15

Memory Verse: “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died." 2 Corinthians 5:14, NIV

One day, certain Christians went out for evangelism in their neighbourhood like they always do. They passionately distributed tracts and preached to people. At a point, an unbeliever met them He shouted: "What exactly is your problem you people, don't you have something better to do?" Then a Deacon boldly answered him: "We have found the love of God, that's why we are crazy for Him, what else can be better than this?"
Like the Deacon, Apostle Paul was zealous for the salvation of the people in the first century. He dared all things and was bold to confront anyone with the message of the gospel. He constantly put his life at risk, seeking to win souls for the kingdom. People were amazed about his exploits and he reveals in our text that it is the love of God that controls and drives him.
What drives you to do what you do? If you desire to make great impact on people's lives, you ought to be inspired and compelled by the love of God. Let it be the force that drives you in your kingdom advancement pursuit. Note that the love of God is to see sinners coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Insight: God's love is genuine, perfect and different.

Prayer: God, ignite new fire of your love in my heart in Jesus name!
