Are You in Christ or Merely in Church?

The Danger of Church Without Christ

Attending church does not make a person a Christian, just as standing in a garage does not make one a car. The greatest danger of trusting in church membership is a false sense of security. Many rest in religious traditions, denominational identity, water baptism, church offices, or moral living while lacking the genuine experience of the New Birth.
The Scriptures warn of those who have "a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof" (2 Timothy 3:5). A person's name may be written on a church register, yet not be written in the Lamb's Book of Life (Revelation 20:15). Jesus Himself declared:
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father." — Matthew 7:21-23
The issue is not whether you belong to a church, but whether you belong to Christ.

Denomination or the Body of Christ?

Being in Church is joining a visible organization. It may require agreement with a creed, a confession of faith, or denominational practices.
Being in Christ is a supernatural birth by the Spirit of God. It is not something a man joins; it is a Life he receives.
Jesus said:
"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." — John 3:3
And the apostle Paul wrote:
"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body." — 1 Corinthians 12:13
The Body of Christ is entered by the baptism of the Holy Ghost—not by denominational membership.
Rev. William Branham consistently taught that God's provided way in every age is to receive His revealed Word for that age. As Noah entered the ark by believing God's revealed Word, as Moses followed the Pillar of Fire, and as the apostles received Christ in their day, believers today are called to receive the fullness of God's revealed Word in obedience and faith.
Jesus declared:
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." — John 10:27
The Scripture also teaches:
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." — Matthew 4:4
According to Branham's Message, denominational systems often preserve yesterday's revelation while resisting the fresh vindication of God's Word in their own generation. The Bride of Christ is called to follow the Word wherever He leads.

The Evidence of the Holy Ghost

Rev. Branham emphasized that the true evidence of receiving the Holy Ghost is not merely emotional excitement, religious activity, or even spiritual gifts in themselves. Rather, it is a life that believes, receives, and lives in complete agreement with the revealed Word of God.
Jesus said:
"If ye love me, keep my commandments." — John 14:15
And again:
"My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it." — Luke 8:21
The Holy Spirit always bears witness to the Word He inspired.
The call of this age is not simply to become more religious, but to come into union with Jesus Christ through the New Birth. God has never saved organizations; He saves individuals who repent, believe His Word, and receive His Spirit.
"Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith." — 2 Corinthians 13:5
"If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature." — 2 Corinthians 5:17
The question is not, "What church do you attend?" The eternal question is:
"Are you in Christ?"
For outside of Christ there is no Life, but in Him is Eternal Life (1 John 5:11-12).
The Message of the Hour calls every believer beyond tradition, beyond denomination, and beyond intellectual faith into a personal union with Jesus Christ through the New Birth, the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and a life surrendered to the fullness of God's revealed Word. May we not merely occupy a church pew, but be found in Christ, for only those who are in Him shall stand when He appears. :::

This is Matthew Ayegra.

11 years ago, he was murdered by Islamic extremists along with 20 others.

He wasn’t a Christian when he was captured.

But after seeing the faith and courage of other captives refusing to deny Christ, when he was asked to renounce Him he reportedly said, “Their God is my God.”

⚠️ Ikeja Bomb Blast:
On January 27, 2002, a massive ammunition depot in Lagos’s Ikeja Cantonment detonated, unleashing chaos across the city. Over 1,000 people were killed and thousands more injured or homeless
Explosives that should have been decommissioned or relocated were left to deteriorate.

Ignored Warnings: Officials had warned for years that the old armoury was unsafe. After a small 2001 explosion, Lagos authorities urged the military to remove or upgrade the depot
Those warnings went unheeded, turning negligence into disaster.
High-Risk Storage: The depot was not isolated – it sat next to a busy street market and military housing
When a market fire spread into the main munitions store, it triggered a catastrophic blast that ravaged nearby neighborhoods

The next day President Obasanjo came to Ikeja demanding answers
Witnesses reported him brusquely telling victims, “I don’t need to be here,” when they cried out for help
This insensitive remark became a symbol of how even top leaders can lack compassion in crisis.

In the panic, many fleeing Lagosians headed toward what looked like safe, grassy ground. It was actually the water-hyacinth–covered Oke-Afa Canal, invisible in the darkness. Hundreds of people – many of them children – drowned in the canal

As fires spread, refugees ran toward a nearby banana plantation. Unaware of the canal between the road and the fields, they rushed in only to find themselves in deep water
Over 600 victims drowned there, and bodies drifted kilometers downstream.

In the years since, Lagos built the Oke-Afa Memorial Arcade to honor those lostOver a thousand names are inscribed on the monument, including many children’s. This marble obelisk stands at Ikeja Cantonment as a sober reminder that human plans can fail. It calls us to reflect, remember, and trust in God’s mercy even amid tragedy.

This was a wake-up call. It shows that human strength and leadership are fallible, no matter how powerful they seem. Scripture warns: “Put not your trust in princes… in whom there is no help” (Psalm 146:3). The Lagos blast proved that when man’s defenses crumble, only God can truly save us.

Trust Only God: “Put not your trust in princes… in whom there is no help” (Psalm 146:3). Even a sitting president and professional army can fail to protect us. We must rely on the Lord.
Sudden Destruction: “When they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes” (1 Thessalonians 5:3). Like the unexpected disaster in Lagos, global “peace” can shatter without warning. We live under God’s grace now – but those days will end

God’s Mercy: “The Lord’s mercies never cease… for His compassions never fail” (Lamentations 3:22). Despite our failures, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed”
Even when men abandon us, God’s love and mercy endure.

Ikeja’s tragedy was local, but the coming Tribulation is certain and global. If a modern military and president could show such neglect while the Holy Spirit still restrains evil (2 Thessalonians 2:7), how much more desperate the world will be when He is withdrawn? All the “safety” of human security and politics will prove to be “a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12).

Don’t wait for the final “explosions” of the end times to realize that all other ground is sinking sand. The only true refuge is Jesus Christ. Today, while God’s grace is still extended, seek Him with all your heart. 🙏🏾

🙏🏾 Lord, we pray for those who suffer and for our own souls. Help us trust in You alone, the Solid Rock in every storm. In Jesus Christ name, Amen.
