THE POVERTY OF JESUS
2 Corinthians 8:9
For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. Kjv
So many times, this verse of the scriptures has been interpreted by the materialistic preachers as meaning that Jesus became a carpenter so that we can be a billionaire on earth.
When preaching is not the preaching of the cross, it can become motivational speaking or millionaire making tips.
Mathew 28 :19-20
A preacher was never sent to raise millionaire, a preacher was sent to make disciples. Not just his disciples but the disciples of Christ. Therefore it become abuse of office when a preacher shift from disciple making into millionaire making.
The church is not a place to raise millionaires but the business school. Therefore, the primary and sole assignments of the church is to raise disciples.
When the scripture said that Jesus became poor, what does the scripture mean by that.
WHAT WAS THE POVERTY OF JESUS THAT MADE US RICH.
Philipians2:6-9
The poverty of Jesus is Him reducing Himself from being God to becoming man so that man can become God.
For Him who created the universe, who is the king of Kings, the giver of life and the beginner of all thing to compress Himself to the form of a creature(creator becoming creature) is what Apostle Paul was describing as the poverty of Jesus.
He became too lowly, a servant and finally was killed as a common criminal; that was the height of poverty.
SO HOW DID WE BECAME RICH AND WHAT IS OUR WEALTH IN CHRIST.
Ephesians 1:3-7.
In the incarnation, God became man, Deity merged Himself with humanity so that humanity can be the same with deity.
Ephesians 2:5-6
Man (an outlaw because of sin) is now sitted together with divinity, reigning together with divinity, this is what the scriptures called the RICHES OF REDEMPTION.
This riches of redemption is not for the unregenerated man. Its for the new creation. Its for the ones who have accepted Jesus as their saviour and enthroned Him as the Lord of their lives.
Being born again is not just attending church meetings or being a worker in a local church.
Being born again is being inducted into the family of God without which you can never be a partaker in the riches of redemption. Ephesians 2:11-19.
