OPEN TRUTH DEVOTIONAL – OTD!
SATURDAY, 22ND AUGUST, 2026.
HOPE FOR THE HOPELESS (1)
SCRIPTURE: EZEKIEL 37:1-1-14
MEDITATION: EZEKIEL 37:10-14

Happy weekend greatly beloved OTD reader and ECAMI Family partner! Welcome to another blessed day and a moment of joy with OTD! The Devil was having a yard sale, and all of his tools were marked with different prices. They were a fiendish lot. There was also hatred, jealousy, deceit, lying, etc. Have you ever felt like your whole world is caving in around you and there is absolutely no hope. Your troubles seem to mount up insurmountably. Cheer up I have good news. There is hope for the hopeless! But over to the side of the yard on display was a tool more obviously worn than any of the other tools. It was also the most costly. The tool was labeled DISCOURAGEMENT. When questioned, the Devil said, "It is more useful to me than any other tool. When I can’t bring down my victims with any of the rest of these tools, I use discouragement, because so few people realize that it belongs to me." Satan is never happier than when he sees people giving in and giving up to despair and becoming lost in hopelessness. There are situations which appear to be totally and absolutely hopeless. But there is hope for you beloved - (Ecclesiastes 9:4). From the anchor scripture of today’s message, the picture portrayed here was that of the nation of Israel in their Eastern captivity and Diaspora. The nation was virtually dead. It was lifeless, scattered, and bleached just as this conquered army’s corpses, which were strewn across a battleground. There was no way humanly possible that they would ever arise from this defeat. But the God of All possibilities made it possible. Hear me beloved, there is no greater state of hopelessness than of man without Christ.

DEVOTIONAL PRAYER: Bless God with hymns and songs of praise! Pray as led with Jeremiah 29:10-14. Also, remember to pray for the Nations using Nigeria as a point of contact - (Psalm 72:1-19). Finally, declare the prayer of thanks - (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

PRAYER OF THANKS:

- Holy Father, with a grateful heart overflowing in praise and worship, I thank You today for the gift and breath of life, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

- Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your abounding grace that saved my soul from the attack and destruction of my adversaries, and brought me to the Twenty-second day in the eighth month of the year: Thank You Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

- Merciful Father, I thank You for Your sure and new mercies that never cease but endures forever each day of my life, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

- Gracious Father, I thank You for Your faithfulness and compassion that never fail in all that concerns me and my household [mention your family name], in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

- Faithful Father, I thank You for all your benefits - protection, healing, deliverance, victory, favour, help, supernatural supply, and all-round blessing towards me and my family, in this, I lack nothing good: Thank you Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

- Righteous Father, by the decree and authority of Your Word: Let my declarations be established and bring forth great light as it is spoken and written according to Your Word concerning my life, family, business, career, and ministry in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

- Everlasting Father, according to Your Word, perfect all that concerns me today, and let nothing share Your glory with You that the enemy should say where is my God in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

OPEN TRUTH DEVOTIONAL – OTD!
FRIDAY, 21ST AUGUST, 2026.
BE PERFECT AS YOUR FATHER (3)
SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 5:43-48
MEDITATION: MATTHEW 5:48

Greetings of love greatly beloved OTD reader and ECAMI Family partner! Welcome to another great day and a moment of peace with OTD! The biblical concept of “perfection” can be best summed up in what I call the “Theology of the Doughnut.” To enjoy the Doughnut story, I would like you to make available some tasty and delicious doughnuts by your side and take periodic bites from the doughnuts all through your reading of today's OTD even as I chew and swallow each bite of my own donuts. “Did you realize that the most popular doughnut in the world is the glazed doughnut?” “Doughnuts originated in the 16th century Holland. They were cooked in oil, and were so greasy that the Dutch called them "olykoeks," or "oily cakes." The Pilgrims, who had lived in Holland, brought the cakes with them when they came to America. Their version was a round doughy ball about the size of a nut – thus the term ‘donut.’ Now, the origin of the donut hole is intriguing. There was a captain Hanson Gregory, a 19th century Main sea captain who was eating a doughnut while sailing through a storm. Suddenly, the ship was rocked violently and he was thrown against the ship’s wheel. Impaling his cake on one of its spokes. Seeing how well the spoke held his cake, Gregory began ordering all his cakes with holes in them. Doughnuts were popularized in the U.S. after the Salvation Army fed doughtnuts – cooked in garbage pails and served on bayonets – to troops during World War 1 - WW1. Soldiers got so hooked on them that they were called "doughboys." (At this point I have finished eaten all of my donuts). Now, what is left of the donut? The Donut Hole. If you do this illustration, be sure to practice ahead of time. Praise God!

DEVOTIONAL PRAYER: Bless God with hymns and songs of praise! Pray as led with Philippians 3:12-16.

Amen.

- Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your abounding grace that saved my soul from the attack and destruction of my adversaries, and brought me to the Twenty-first day in the eighth month of the year: Thank You Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

- Merciful Father, I thank You for Your sure and new mercies that never cease but endures forever each day of my life, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

OPEN TRUTH DEVOTIONAL – OTD!
THURSDAY, 20TH AUGUST, 2026.
BE PERFECT AS YOUR FATHER (2)
SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 5:43-48
MEDITATION: MATTHEW 5:48

Greetings of love greatly beloved OTD reader and ECAMI Family partner! Welcome to another gracious day and a moment of peace with OTD! To say that “Perfection” is the same as sinlessness is like saying a real donut is the hole. Just as there is so much more to the donut than the donut hole, there is more to perfection than the idea of sinlessness. What is perfection? In Greek, the word translated "perfect" is “teleios.” “Teleios” shows up many times in the New Testament. But there is one passage where “teleios” is translated in a way that is easier for us to understand. In Hebrews 5:12-14, we read these words: “We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature (“teleios”), who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” In other words, to be “teleios” means to be mature. What does it mean to be “mature?” It means to GROW UP. That is, to become responsible, reliable, dependable. In fact, it means to learn how to behave like an adult. And that is what Jesus is saying here in Matthew 5. There is a certain kind of behaviour, attitude or character you need to exhibit. Then you will be “sons of your Father in heaven.” So, when Jesus tells us to “be perfect like your Father in Heaven is perfect” he is saying: “Grow up to be like your Father in heaven.” What does it mean to grow up to be like God? In this passage, Jesus doesn’t say a thing about being sinless. What Jesus does say is that “perfection” (or growing up to be like your Father) means you must “Love your enemies and even pray for those who persecute you.”

DEVOTIONAL PRAYER: Bless God with hymns and songs of praise! Pray as led with 1 Corinthians 13:8-13.

Amen.

- Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your abounding grace that saved my soul from the attack and destruction of my adversaries, and brought me to the Twentieth day in the eighth month of the year: Thank You Father, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

OPEN TRUTH DEVOTIONAL – OTD!
WEDNESDAY, 19TH AUGUST, 2026.
BE PERFECT AS YOUR FATHER (1)
SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 6:1-22
MEDITATION: MATTHEW 5:43-48

Greetings of love greatly beloved OTD reader and ECAMI Family partner! Welcome to another wonderful day and a moment of grace with OTD! Perfection is often thought of as being sinless. But there is more to the Biblical ideal of "perfection" than that. The opening illustration of today’s anchor scripture is humorous and informative. Beloved, right now, I am going to ask you few questions, and I don’t want you to think real hard about your answers. I just want you to answer as you feel you should. Do you believe you are perfect? Do you believe it is possible for someone who is still living to become perfect? For many of us, “perfection” means “sinlessness.” And we all know that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” - (Romans 3:23). However, consider these scriptures: “Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God” - (Genesis 6:9). “Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded…” - (Philippians 3:15). Now one of two things is applicable here. Either these people of Scripture defied Romans 3:23 by being sinless or there is something about the Biblical concept of “perfection” that we don’t understand. I believe that today's meditation passage in Matthew 5 indicates that maybe there is something about “perfection we don’t understand. In fact, the biblical concept of “perfection” can be best summed up in what I call the “Theology of the Donut.”

DEVOTIONAL PRAYER: Bless God with hymns and songs of praise! Pray as led with John 17:20-26.

Amen.

- Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your abounding grace that saved my soul from the attack and destruction of my adversaries, and brought me to the nineteenth day in the eighth month of the year: Thank You Father, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

OPEN TRUTH DEVOTIONAL – OTD!
TUESDAY, 18TH AUGUST, 2026.
PITFALLS OF A MATURE BELIEVER (2)
SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 14:14-23
MEDITATION: ROMANS 14:20-23

Greetings of grace greatly beloved OTD reader and ECAMI Family partner! Welcome to another blessed day and a moment of mercy with OTD! I can do anything at all - as long as my life is subjugated to my Lord Jesus. Ah – there is the rub. As I mature in Christ, I realize how much freedom I have, but I also realize how much responsibility I have to do as Jesus told us: “to make disciples,” to help others discover and then also become like Jesus. From the previous OTD message, we looked at how that responsibility teaches us to obey the civil authorities – today we see how that responsibility extends to those who are not as mature as we are – calling us to reign in our freedom, if it means harm to another. "Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters" - (Romans 14:1). Paul sums up the whole chapter in this one verse. The idea, simply put, is that we shouldn’t judge another person as “less than” in the kingdom of God just because they don’t understand what true freedom in Christ is all about – when it comes to “disputable matters” - basically, things over which sincere Christians debate – and Paul uses a prime example: "One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables" - (Romans 14:2). "The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him" - (Romans 14:3). Some Christians have very narrow convictions – you shouldn’t go to movies, you shouldn’t eat meat, you shouldn’t dance, you shouldn’t watch TV, you mustn’t wear make-up if you are a woman – lots and lots of little rules that are very important to them – but are disputable. Of course – when it comes to things central to the faith, we should defend our stand with everything we have got – the deity of Christ, His death and resurrection – our salvation through faith alone.

DEVOTIONAL PRAYER: Bless God with hymns and songs of praise! Pray as led with Acts 10:9-16.

Amen.

- Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your abounding grace that saved my soul from the attack and destruction of my adversaries, and brought me to the eighteenth day in the eighth month of the year: Thank You Father, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

OPEN TRUTH DEVOTIONAL – OTD!
MONDAY, 17TH AUGUST, 2026.
PITFALLS OF A MATURE BELIEVER (1)
SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 14:1-13
MEDITATION: ROMANS 14:10-13

Greetings of grace greatly beloved OTD reader and ECAMI Family partner! Welcome to another great day the LORD has made and to a moment of love with OTD! As we grow in Christ we realize just how much freedom we have in Him. But what about the immature believer - what do we do with our freedom if it causes our brother or sister to stumble or be distressed? Paul the Apostle wrote these words: "When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me" - (1 Corinthians 13:11). What was it like for you when you realized you were no longer a child? As we grow up we have to continually put away childish things. At least I hope we do or we will have a lot of problem having enough to live on with. But just because I stopped answering the name "Bonfrere Joe or Johannes Bonfrere" while playing football as a teenager didn’t mean that I made fun of my other friends who continued to play football with nicknames. And so too spiritually, as we mature in Christ we have a deeper understanding, a deeper relationship and we change, we do things differently. Hopefully we have learned from trials and time spent worshiping and praying and living in Christ. One of the things we get is an increased sense of freedom. Jesus said “If the Son sets you free you are free indeed - (John 8:36). Later Paul wrote: “It is for freedom that Christ set us free - (Galatians 5:1). “Through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death” - (Romans 8:2). The question is, what do I do with that freedom – what does it mean? It means that I can do anything I want – anything. There are no more requirements to be met, no more laws to follow, no more trying to be anything – Jesus did it all for me.

DEVOTIONAL PRAYER: Bless God with hymns and songs of praise! Pray as led with 2 Corinthians 5:12-17. Also, remember to pray for the nations using Nigeria as a point of contact - (Psalm 2:1-3,8-9,10-11). Finally, declare the prayer of thanks - (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

PRAYER OF THANKS:

- Holy Father, with a grateful heart overflowing in praise and worship, I thank You today for the gift and breath of life, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

- Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your abounding grace that saved my soul from the attack and destruction of my adversaries, and brought me to the sevteenth day in the eighth month of the year: Thank You Father, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

OPEN TRUTH DEVOTIONAL – OTD!
SUNDAY, 16TH AUGUST, 2026.
FEATURES OF OUR TRIALS
SCRIPTURE: JAMES 1:1-8
MEDITATION: JAMES 1:3-4

Happy Sunday greatly beloved OTD reader and ECAMI Family partner! Welcome to another glorious day of the LORD and to a moment of light with OTD! Today, in our devotional, we will consider the characteristics of our trials:
1. They are often sudden: “When you fall.”
2. They are certain: James say when ye fall, not, if ye fall!
3. They are sorted: “into divers [various] trails.”
These are:
A. Financial – when the weekly and monthly bills in your house could not be paid, and the mortgage is due (The solution: Seek ye the kingdom of God and all His righteousness, and all these things shall be given unto you - Matthew 6:33).
B. Physical – when you are sick, physically challenged and disabled in your body (The solution: By His strip, you are healed - Isaiah 53:5).
C. Spiritual - sometimes I don’t know the way to go (The solution: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path - Proverbs 3:5-6). The purpose of our sufferings accompanied by trials and temptation: As we have already noted, God either causes or allow all sufferings to fall into our lives - (Job 1:1-2:13). The question here to answer is: Why does God allow these things to happen?
A. Because suffering produces endurance down here. “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
B. Because suffering promises rewards in Heaven. “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” The question again is: How do you respond to trials?
i). Count it all joy when ye face many trials.
ii). Wait on the Lord, and be of good courage, and He shall strength thy heart.
iii). Go down on your knees in prayer, and God will give you the joy, peace, and victory to overcome. No matter what you are going through, develop the right attitude to positively respond to it by faith and with joy!

DEVOTIONAL PRAYER: Bless God with hymns and songs of praise! Pray as led with the meditation passages: James 1:12-18.

Amen.

- Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your abounding grace that saved my soul from the attack and destruction of my adversaries, and brought me to the sixteenth day in the eighth month of the year: Thank You Father, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen.
