BE SPIRITUALLY PREPARED TO DISCERN GOD’S WIL. REV. ONAOLAPO URGES CHRISTIANS

By Michael Nwankwo

Christians have been urged to develop the spiritual discipline needed to recognise God’s will and make sound decisions in the different circumstances of life.

The Vicar of the Anglican Church of the Living Faith, Lakowe, Rev. Onaolapo Babatunde, gave the admonition during his sermon on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

Rev. Onaolapo explained that spiritual discernment enables a Christian to distinguish between truth and error and to recognise God’s direction in a given situation. He noted that it is a gift of the Holy Spirit that requires preparation and a consistent relationship with God.

He stressed that prayer and the study of the Bible are essential to developing spiritual discernment, noting that God’s guidance is not something to be sought only when a difficult decision arises.

The Vicar also called attention to the need for proper priorities in daily life, particularly in handling family responsibilities and personal affairs, while urging members to remain attentive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

He encouraged the congregation to make Bible study and prayer a regular part of daily life, noting that spiritual readiness comes from continually growing in the knowledge of God.

2026 ACM PROVINCIAL BIBLE QUIZ REPORT

To the glory of God, our Diocese DIOCESE OF LAGOS, Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) was ably represented at the 2026 ACM Provincial Bible Quiz by Onaolapo Deborah IyanuOluwa and Harold Chizaram Angel.

The quiz, which featured 17 contestants, was keenly contested. At the end of the competition, the combined performance of our contestants placed the Diocese 3rd overall among the 14 Dioceses in the Province.

This achievement is particularly commendable as it marks our Diocese's first participation in the ACM Provincial Bible Quiz. It is indeed an encouraging beginning and a testament to the dedication, preparation, and commitment of everyone involved.

We therefore congratulate the Director, The Ven. Opeyemi Victor Adeyemo, on this remarkable achievement and appreciate The Rev’d Onaolapo Babatunde for his sacrifice, commitment, and diligent coaching of the contestants.

We also commend Onaolapo Deborah IyanuOluwa and Harold Chizaram Angel for their excellent performance and encourage them to continue striving for greater heights.

We pray that the Lord will grant them greater wisdom, grace, and more laurels in Jesus' name. Amen.

CHRISTIANS CHALLENGED TO LET THEIR LIVES REFLECT CHRIST

(By Michael Nwankwo)

Christians have been challenged to look beyond simply identifying as believers and ensure that their daily lives reflect the character and teachings of Christ.

The charge was given by Bro. Chimuanya Orizu during the service held at the Anglican Church of the Living Faith Lakowe on Sunday August 9, 2026.

Reflecting on the experience of the early Christians in Acts 2, He noted that those who accepted Christ did not stop at professing their faith. They remained committed to the Word of God allowing their new faith to transform their lives.

He reminded the congregation that every Christian has a specific purpose in God’s Kingdom and urged members to discover their calling and remain faithful to it.

Bro. Orizu also encouraged Christians to cultivate genuine fellowship and love, noting that the Christian faith is not meant to be lived in isolation. He urged members to show concern for one another and help others come to know Christ.

Additionally, He challenged Christians to examine their conduct both within and outside the church, particularly in their workplaces and everyday interactions.

He concluded by urging believers to ensure that their actions and inaction give others a reason to see Christ in them.

UNDERSTANDING THE TRUMPET OF GOD THROUGH SCRIPTURE

One of the most important sounds mentioned in Bible prophecy is the Trumpet of God. It is not described as a musical performance or a warning for battle, but as a divine signal connected with the return of Jesus Christ.

The Bible says:

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16

According to this passage, three things happen together:

* The Lord descends from heaven.
* The voice of the archangel is heard.
* The Trumpet of God sounds.

Immediately after this, the dead in Christ rise first.

The next verse continues:

“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 4:17

The trumpet is also mentioned here:

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump… for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
1 Corinthians 15:51–52

From these Scriptures, the sounding of the trumpet is connected with:

* The coming of the Lord.
* The resurrection of believers who have died.
* The transformation of believers who are alive.

Jesus also spoke of a great trumpet:

“And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”
Matthew 24:31

These passages all show that the trumpet is associated with God’s gathering of His people. The Bible emphasizes what happens when the trumpet sounds: Christ comes, believers are gathered, the dead in Christ are raised, and those who belong to Him are changed.

Two questions to consider:

1. If the Trumpet of God were to sound today, are you confident that you would be among those gathered to Christ?
2. What do these Scriptures teach us about the hope believers have in the return of Jesus?
