Summary

Topic: Setting Affection on things above
Text: Colossians 3:2

Colossians 3:2
[2]Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
What is affection?
Affection is a feeling of liking and caring for someone or something.
Affection is also tender feeling, warm attachment, good will. _I have set my affection_ _to the house of my God_ (1chronicles 29:3).
Setting Affection on things above requires adjusting ones thinking, a total shift in perspective in which you see things. Seeking God's will above yours, aligning oneself to the kingdom way, the new life and identity in Christ, striving to think like Christ, and meditating on His Word.
Aligning your thoughts, my thoughts with His truths and surrendering the earthly ambitions.
Looking at our text from verse 1 of the chapter, we will see that after we have surrender our life to Jesus the next thing expected of us is to follow him through, thinking about only him and knowing more about him and not the things if this world anymore.
Immediately we accept him as our Lord and saviour, we have been separated from the things beneath, things of the world, although we are in the world but we are not of the world John 17:16.
John 17:16
[16]They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Then what are the things above: The things above are heavenly and spiritual good, such as faith, peace,a patient heart, love, chastity, all good and perfect things James 1:17(Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning) and such things.
Things on earth, they are carnal good such as, pleasures, riches, the glory of the world, and as listed in Colossians 3:5(Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:).
Setting Affection in things above means to mind of, to think of, to favour and to approve of, to be affectionately desirous and concern for the things above for where the treasure is, the heart should be according to the book of Matthew 6:19-21.
Matthew 6:19-21
[19]Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
[20]But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
[21]For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
You can't claim to set your affection to the things above and still tend to the things of the world, because the scripture says in 1 John 2:15 that "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him".
*How to set your mind on the things above*
The man that has new life in Christ looks above to his precepts, promises and spiritual powers.
Put to death what is earthly Colossians 3:5-8
2. Put on the new self Colossians 3:11
3. Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart Colossians 3:15
In conclusion, setting your heart on the things above will be the best things that has ever happened to you because the Bible says the best gift comes from above in James 1:17.
Jas.1.17 - Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Welcome to June!!!

Among other things, watch our for these:
1. There will be fruitfulness. Things that seemed dead will break forth into life. And with life comes the capacity to bear fruits. More than even before, your results will validate the truth that God's word works.
2. There will be restoration. The Lord is restoring what's lost. He he restoring times, seasons and opportunities. He has said it, so it is.

*No BURDEN! No GLORY!*

A burden is a call to action, an opportunity to trust God in prayer.

Burden encapsulate Glory, if there is no burden definitely there's no glory.

Burden is not meant to be carried by everybody, but by some specific people, those who can wait on God. *The remnants* _Jer. 23:3_
_"And I will gather the *remnant* of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase."_

He does not need a crowd for his work but the remnants who are capable to bear and carry his burden.

*Those that are intentional, the ones that are willing to stay and wait on Him.

Burden is not heavy but the Glory is heavy.

Burden is a pathway to Glory!

The ones that bears burden are *person of secret place.*

Brothers and Sisters build an intimate relationship with God.

Let's take a look at Mary the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ as an example, she is a burden bearer, Luke 1:30,31
_"And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God._
[31] _And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS."_

The angel of the Lord brought burden to her, though she does not know how, but she remained that reminant God can use, in verses 39 it was recorded that she went to her her cousin's house (Elizabeth) not to go and have fun o, but to hide herself, she was burdened but the glory that lies ahead is heavy, she birth the Saviour if the world _Kai_ 🔥 the Glory.

The burden that the Lord has given you may make you look foolish to men because 1 Corinthians 1:25a says _"Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men;"_ but if only you can wait and seek the Lord, the Glory is heavy.

A burden bearer is a *consistent seeker* not fluctuating.

For you to become one of this burden bearer, you must submit yourself under the government of God.

We coming to this world God has assigned us to do one or two things, we all have a purpose to fulfill. It now depends on us to decide whether to fulfill purpose or not, by the path we choose to thread, remember you and I, we are going to give account of all we do here on earth when we get back to heaven.

There is this part of us as humans, whether a believer or an unbeliever that carries this burden of 'I must fulfill destiny' but what is the essence of fulfilling this destiny outside your Maker (God), what is the burden that you carry that doesn't have glory, as you can see the burden is heavy for you because it is not yours to carry, why don't you let him carry it on your behalf, He said in ‭Matthew 11:28 that
" __Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest._ [ _I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls._ ]

All you have to do is to give him space in your heart!!!

Remember no *Burden!* no *Glory!*
