Money (Part 4): Set Your Mind On Heaven

“The eye is the lamp of the body; so if your eye is clear [spiritually perceptive], your whole body will be full of light [benefiting from God’s precepts]. But if your eye is bad [spiritually blind], your whole body will be full of darkness [devoid of God’s precepts]. So if the [very] light inside you [your inner self, your heart, your conscience] is darkness, how great and terrible is that darkness!Matthew 6:22-23 (AMP)

Jesus taught that believers must set their minds on things above. Our treasure should be eternal, not temporary. A good question to ask ourselves regularly is:

1. What occupies my thoughts most often?

2. What affects my joy the most?

3. What do I fear losing the most?

The honest and true answers will reveal what we truly love.

In Matthew 6:22–23, Jesus also connected our spiritual vision with our attitude toward money:

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.”

This means our spiritual condition is affected by how we view material wealth. If money becomes the most important thing in life, darkness slowly fills the heart.
Sadly, some people may appear spiritually mature, attend church faithfully, understand doctrine correctly, and still secretly love money deeply.

Outward Christianity can never replace inward freedom from greed.

Money (Part 3) : Whatever Controls Your Thoughts Controls Your Heart.

Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; [20] but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. [21] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also".

If money constantly fills your thoughts, then whether you admit it or not, you are in love with it. Just as someone deeply in love continually thinks about the person they cherish, those who love money think about it endlessly. Scripture warns clearly that “the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.”

This problem is not limited to rich people. Poverty does not automatically make someone free from greed. Many poor people love money deeply, while some wealthy people remain completely free from its control.

The issue is not the amount you possess but the attitude you have toward it. A person may own very little money and still be enslaved by it. Another may possess great wealth, like Abraham, yet remain its master rather than its servant. Wealth itself is not evil; bo***ge to wealth is.

Money: A Helpful Servant, But A Dangerous Master
Money can be useful, just like fire. Fire cooks our food and serves our household well, but if it escapes control, it can destroy the entire house. In the same way, money is beneficial when kept in its proper place, but destructive when it rules our lives.
A spiritually mature person says:
“Money will not control my thoughts, emotions, or decisions. I will use money, but I will not serve it.”
We need money to live on earth, but it must remain under our authority — never above it.
The Bible even speaks about gold in Heaven, yet it describes streets made of gold. Gold is beneath the feet of heavenly-minded people; it does not rule them. That is the difference between a spiritual Christian and a worldly Christian. One keeps wealth under his feet, while the other carries it constantly in his mind.Money: A Helpful Servant, But A Dangerous Master

Do Not Love Money
Jesus issued a profound warning in Matthew 6:19–21:

“Do not accumulate treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. Instead, accumulate treasures in Heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

The issue at hand is not the possession of money; the real danger lies in loving it. Possessing wealth is not a sin, but allowing it to captivate your heart is spiritually perilous.

One simple method to discern where our heart truly lies is to examine our thoughts. What occupies our mind more frequently — earthly possessions or heavenly things? If we constantly ponder properties, savings, business profits, investments, and material success more than God and eternity, then our treasure is likely on earth.
Our reactions to money also reveal our spiritual condition. If a minor financial loss ruins our peace, or a financial gain suddenly elates us beyond measure, it may indicate that our joy is tied to material things instead of Christ.
Many years ago, after receiving a small financial gift, I sensed the Lord asking me, “Has your joy increased because of this money?” Immediately, conviction filled my heart because I realized that my happiness had risen due to financial gain.

That experience taught me an indelible lesson: true joy must emanate from the Lord alone, not from money.
The Bible commands believers to “rejoice in the Lord always.”
God remains immutable, so our joy should remain steady whether we gain money or lose it. If our happiness fluctuates with profit and loss, then money has quietly usurped God’s place in our hearts.

The ministry of Education released a bombshell last week.💣🤯🤯🤯💣

Four credit passes now qualify candidates for Colleges of Education. Not necessarily specific four. Any four.

I sincerely hope I misunderstood it.

We are still battling foundational literacy and numeracy challenges — to the point that, in my opinion, some teachers themselves still need serious brushing up in those areas.

I work in this sector. I know what we see.

We need strong hands in our schools.

Honestly, I cannot employ someone to teach my child if all they can boast of is four credits.

Yes, we need more teachers. We truly do.

But should we open the door just anyhow?

Sir, what if we improved the standard of living of teachers and watch how brilliant minds naturally get attracted to the profession?

What if we revived Teachers’ Training Colleges and allowed intending teachers to begin focused preparation from the equivalent of SS1 — with strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy, pedagogy, safeguarding and ICT?

What if we properly strengthened pre-NCE programmes so interested candidates with four credits begin from there instead of moving straight into direct admission?

Yes, we have out-of-school children. But deep down, we know the crisis is not simply because we do not have teachers.

That conversation may be for another day.

I genuinely love the energy and reform-mindedness coming from the leadership of the Ministry of Education.

But while we reform, standards should still be protected.

Oh dear Lord 🙏 have mercy on our leaders and grant them wisdom to establish your will.

THE FORM OF A
SERVANT ~ Bro. Gbile Akanni

“Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Phil 2: 6-8

Everyone grows up to become a ‘master’. Experience, expertise and exposures tend to make a man a master. Exploits done for the Lord will automatically place a status on your life.

Years of service, years of ministry, years of revelation from God seek to make a ‘master’ out of you. ‘Masters’ are men who direct but for Jesus, this was not so. He took upon Himself the form of a servant! This again was His personal choice.

No one imposed it on Him. He took it upon Himself. This is the crux of the matter. If you desire to remain a master it is your right. Years of service have probably brought it on you; exposure, experience, expertise and exploits have made and carved out such a seat for you. But you can lay it aside to continually tie around yourself the towel of service . . .

Though no man would call on you to serve (actually, men will agree to serve you and will run around for you), you must also lay it aside, if you must bear God’s glory upon your life for a long time.

“. . coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient . . .”

Do not seek to be different from people. Do not assume any other posture! Do not seek another outlook. It is safer for you to be a mere man, no matter the treasure within your heart. It is safer to appear as clay – unattractive outside, despite the glorious investment of God within.

Where you are is not who you are.
Some people are not empty
they are just in a season no one understands.

Dreams delayed.
Voices unheard.
Purpose waiting.

A king in hiding is still a king.
The street is not your end.
It’s a phase… not your final place.

So if life has you in a position that doesn’t match what you carry, don’t lose yourself.

Your crown still exists and one day, what’s inside you will speak so loud the world won’t be able to ignore it.

I recommend that you all watch Kings on the street

Shalom!

“Fill my cup Lord” is not just a song, but a daily posture, because a Spirit-filled life produces a flow that can not be manufactured.

Every anointing has a purpose, and when it is used outside that assignment, it loses direction.

So the reminder is simple: don’t misplace what heaven has entrusted, and real growth often looks like focus, not comparison, just steady alignment and obedience.

Ask yourself...
Am I aligned, or just active?
