Tittle:The Love of Money

Text: Ye cannot serve God and mammon. - Matt 6:24

We had better look very carefully into the meaning of these words, remembering that it was our blessed Lord who spoke them. “Mammon” means riches. To “serve” means to be the slave of. Paul loved to call himself the servant or slave of Christ. Now Jesus says here that we cannot be God’s slave and mammon’s slave too. We cannot belong to any two masters at the same time. If we are mammon’s slave, that ends it, we are not God’s. If we belong to God, mammon is not our master.

Think, too, what a degrading thing it is for any one bearing the image of God to be the slave of money. To use the word “serve” in its mildest English sense, no man should ever be the servant of money. Riches are meant to be man’s slave; now think how degrading it would be for any man to become servant or slave to his own slave. A man should be ashamed to call riches his master.

Money is meant to be man’s servant, and so long as he is its perfect master it may be a blessing to him, and an instrument with which he may do great good. But when he gets down on his knees to it and crawls in the dust for its sake, and sells his manhood to get it, it is only a curse to him. Thus it is easy to see why any one who serves God cannot serve mammon. God must have all the heart and must rule in all the life. He will not share His throne with the god of gold.

God’s true servants may have money, and may even be very rich, but they must use their money as a means for honouring God and blessing the world in Christ’s name. They must own the money; the money must not own them. They must carry it in their hands, not in their hearts. This is a very important thing for us to learn. Many Christian people are in danger of forsaking the sweet, blessed service of Christ for the servile, slavish service of mammon.

MINISTERING TO THE LORD THROUGH SONGS.

Read 1 Chronicles 25:1-6.

MEMORISE: You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created' (Revelation 4:11)

EXPOSITION
There are diverse ways of ministering to the Lord, one of which is through the appointment of people who are vast and skilled in playing different musical instruments to minister to God and to praise His holy name.

King David, a man after God's heart, caught this revelation and thus those who are able to carryout this special task unto our holy God. He set some people over the service of song in the house of the Lord (1 Chro. 6:30,31), because he understood the importance of ministering to God through songs.

This ministry is a divine gift though, it is expected of every child of God to minister to Him in this area, but some are endowed with this special gift and thus do it very well. The power of song is characteristic of individuals, and it often flows in family lines, as is illustrated in the cases of Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman. Those with the gift ought to be consecrated to the divine service. When one ministers to God through songs, it brings down God's presence, glory and also comforts and helps people.

Let all who have this gift lay it on the altar of God's service in the sanctuary. Use it both in the public and in private sphere worship to the Lord. The book of Revelations reveals that twenty four elders, four beasts and hosts of angels minister to God through songs and worship at all time. *(Rev. 4:8)*. If God has endowed you with this gift, join the host of heaven to worship Him in the beauty of His holiness. Halleluyah!.

Are you gifted by God in this area? Desire God's glory, the blessings of His people. No arrogance and no commercialization.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Who is like unto Thee, O Lord, who is like unto Thee, O Lord, among the gods, who is like Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders, hallelujah.
2. Pray that God will open your eyes to the awesomeness of His works, so as to be launched into the realm of praises.
3. Pray for choristers in each assembly that God will sanctify them and make them fit for the assignment committed into their hands as they lead the congregation before God in songs of praises.

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 2 Samuel 7:12 - 10-15; Luke 23:26 - 23:47.
