*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_

*DATE:* SUNDAY, 23RD AUGUST, 2026 _*{Trinity 12}*_ *THEME:* PREACHING THE GOSPEL

*TEXT:* MATTHEW 10: 16-22 _*(NKJV)*_

16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues.
18 You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;
20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
21 “Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.
22 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

*MESSAGE:*

As part of Jesus' training of His disciples (the Apostles). He sent them out to go and practise preaching the Gospel. He also reminded them of the challenges they would face and asked them to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. The challenges included: Delivering them to Councils (civil leaders), flogging, death, rebellion, hatred, etc. His assurance to them was that if they endured to the end, they would be saved.

The things Jesus told His disciples that day are still the same challenges those who preach the Gospel today pass through. In many parts of the world today, Christians are being persecuted, marginalised, killed, rendered homeless, etc., just because they preach the Gospel or believe in Christ. Those in authority or government seem not to be bothered. Christians have become an endangered species. The devil is really at war against believers to stop the spread of the Gospel. It is only God who will save the remnant to continue to preach without fear.

*PRAYER:*
Matthew 24:14: _"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come."_ Lord. May You enlist me today! *Amen*

*DATE:* SATURDAY, 22ND AUGUST, 2026 *THEME:* CHILD DISCIPLINE

*TEXT:* 1 KINGS 1: 1-10 _*(NKJV)*_

1 Now King David was old, advanced in years; and they put covers on him, but he could not get warm.
2 Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young woman, a virgin, be sought for our lord the king, and let her stand before the king, and let her care for him; and let her lie in your bosom, that our lord the king may be warm.”
3 So they sought for a lovely young woman throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
4 The young woman was very lovely; and she cared for the king, and served him; but the king did not know her.
5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king”; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. 6 (And his father had not rebuked him at any time by saying, “Why have you done so?” He was also very good-looking. His mother had borne him after Absalom.)
7 Then he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they followed and helped Adonijah.
8 But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David were not with Adonijah.
9 And Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fattened cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En Rogel; he also invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants.
10 But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, or Solomon his brother.

*MESSAGE:*

One role God expects of all parents is to enforce discipline on their children. Proverbs 29:15 states thus; _"The rod and rebuke give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother."_ We may never know for sure why the father is not mentioned in this instruction.

We see in our text today where the above scripture played out clearly. Adonijah felt it was his turn to ascend the throne of Israel. He never allowed his father, David, who was still alive, to make the pronouncement rather he organised his coronation group and took them to where they would crown him king. He also extended his invitation to a selected few and left out others. Though he may have been the eldest after Absalom, but it was not right for him to declare himself king. The problem lies in v. 6a. "And his father had not rebuked him at any time by saying, "Why have you done so?" Though David was a very reputable King in Israel, he was very weak in enforcing discipline at the home front. This led to some of his children misbehaving. Please, keep an eye on your children so that they will not grow out of control and bring shame to the family.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, please give me the grace to bring up my children in Your unity. *Amen.*

*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_

*DATE:* FRIDAY, 21ST AUGUST, 2026 *THEME:* DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD'S WORD

*TEXT:* 2 THESSALONIANS 3: 14-18 _*(NKJV)*_

14 And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed.
15 Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.
17 The salutation of Paul with my own hand, which is a sign in every epistle; so I write.
18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. *Amen.*

*MESSAGE:*

Paul had said a lot in this short Epistle and was emphatic on those that will not obey what God was using him to tell them through his letter. He asked the believers to note such a person and not keep company with him/her. This will lead to the shame of that person. Again, such a person should not be treated as an enemy but as a brother, who will possibly retrace his steps.

Christian discipline is allowed in Christianity. Though it is not too common these days for Christian leaders to stand their ground to discipline an erring brother or sister, it is wrong to tolerate everything. Some leaders are afraid that if a certain brother or sister who plays key role(s) is disciplined, the person may abandon the fold and go to another denomination or another Church and may never return. Such is possible, but rescuing that person is far more important than other considerations. May the Lord grant us wisdom to handle every case on its merit!

*PRAYER:*
Lord, please give me the boldness to correct an erring believer and redirect him/her to You. *Amen*

*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_

*DATE:* THURSDAY, 20TH AUGUST, 2026 *THEME:* AVOIDING IDLENESS AND LAZINESS

*TEXT:* 2 THESSALONIANS 3: 6-13 _*(NKJV)*_

6 But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us.
7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you;
8 nor did we eat anyone's bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you,
9 not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.
10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.
11 For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies.
12 Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.
13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.

*MESSAGE:*

In our text today, Apostle Paul warns against idleness and laziness. Though the Thessalonian believers were eagerly waiting for the Second Coming of Christ, Paul urged them to be busy and engage in ventures while doing so. Some of them had stopped working so Paul reminded them of how they themselves toiled night and day to provide for their needs and not be a burden to any of them (v. 8). This was to serve to them as an example to follow (v. 9). For emphasis, he declared that _"If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat"_ (v. 10).

Since we must eat daily and do not know the actual day of Jesus' Second Coming, we must continue in normal daily activities, including engaging in meaningful ventures while waiting. Are you idle? Prayerfully ask God to help you get engaged in something meaningful. Are you unemployed? May the Lord come to your rescue and make you smile very soon. However, you must engage in little things while waiting for that breakthrough!

*PRAYER:*
Lord Jesus, help me to overcome every spirit of laziness and idleness while awaiting Your return. *Amen*

*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_

*DATE:* WEDNESDAY, 19TH AUGUST, 2026 *THEME:* PRAYING FOR OUR LEADERS

*TEXT:* 2 THESSALONIANS 3: 1-5 _*(NKJV)*_

1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you,
2 and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.
3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. 4 And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you do and will do the things we command you.
5 Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.

*MESSAGE:*

In our text, Paul stated clearly, _"Brethren, pray for us"_ that the Word of the Lord may spread rapidly and we be delivered from wicked and evil people who hate the Gospel (vv. 1-2).

It is not common for a notable and visible spiritual leader to ask for prayers. Some people feel that when God is using a man mightily, he may not need people to pray for him. In fact, he is assumed to know his way with God. The truth remains that we are all flesh with frailties and subject to possible fall or missing the direction. For our Master to rise early to pray (Mark 1:35) and asking Peter, James and John (Matt. 26:36-38) to join Him to pray before His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane is a humbling call that we all need prayers including our leaders. We may not wait for them to ask for our prayers. We may be doing so in our closets knowing that they need it. If it has not been part of our prayer habit, may we start now or intensify it if we have been doing so. Brethren, pray for us.

*PRAYER:*
Dear Lord, may you constantly remind me to pray for my spiritual leaders. *Amen*
