Topic: BULLYING AND PEER PRESSURE
Text: EPHESIANS 4:29-32
VERSE OF THE DAY:
_“LET NO CORRUPT WORD PROCEED OUT OF YOUR MOUTH, BUT WHAT IS GOOD FOR NECESSARY EDIFICATION, THAT IT MAY IMPART GRACE TO THE HEARERS. AND DO NOT GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, BY WHOM YOU WERE SEALED FOR THE DAY OF REDEMPTION. LET ALL BITTERNESS, WRATH, ANGER, CLAMOUR, AND EVIL SPEAKING BE PUT AWAY FROM YOU, WITH ALL MALICE. AND BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER, TENDER-HEARTED, FORGIVING ONE ANOTHER, EVEN AS GOD IN CHRIST FORGAVE YOU” - EPHESIANS 4:29-32 (NKJV)._
Bullying and peer pressure are prevalent issues that can deeply affect individuals, particularly in school environments and social settings. This lesson explores how to confront these challenges with God’s perspective and guidance, which includes the following.
1. Understanding Bullying: Bullying can take many forms, including verbal, physical, and relational aggression. It often stems from insecurity and the desire for control or dominance. Recognising the impact of bullying on both victims and perpetrators is crucial. It can lead to lasting emotional and psychological harm.
2. Responding to Bullies: As Christians, our response should be rooted in love and compassion. Ephesians 4:29 encourages us to use our words for edification. Instead of retaliating with anger or harsh words, we can choose to respond with kindness and assertiveness. Seeking support from trusted adults, friends, or mentors is also important in addressing bullying.
3. Peer Pressure Dynamics: Peer pressure can lead individuals to compromise their values or engage in harmful behaviours to fit in. It is essential to cultivate a strong sense of identity in Christ, understanding that our value does not depend on others' opinions. Romans 12:2 reminds us not to conform to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
4. Standing Firm in Faith: When faced with bullying or peer pressure, standing up for what is right may require courage. Philippians 4:13 states, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Relying on God’s strength can empower us to resist negative influences and make choices that honour Him.
5. Seeking Help and Support: If you or someone you know is experiencing bullying or peer pressure, it is vital to reach out for help. This can be through parents, teachers, counsellors, or friends. Building a support network is key to navigating these challenges.
6. Promoting a Positive Environment: As members of the body of Christ, we are called to be a source of encouragement and support for one another. Practising kindness, understanding, and forgiveness, as outlined in Ephesians 4:32, helps create a positive community that discourages bullying and peer pressure.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to confront bullying and peer pressure with grace and courage in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
