Day 21 Of Our Fasting & Prayer
*ANCHOR* (⚓) – BRGC Daily Prayer Points.
*Date:* Sunday 22nd February, 2026
*Topic:*
TO PREVAIL, WE MUST TRAVAIL
*Bible Reading:* LUKE 22:39-46 (The Holy Bible, New International Version).
Luke 22:39-46 NIV
[39] Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.
[40] On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”
[41] He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,
[42] “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
[43] An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.
[44] And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
[45] When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.
[46] “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
*Word For Today:*
“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” LUKE 22:42 NIV
*Inspiring Commentary:*
The essence of today’s Bible text is the realization of the efficacy of prevailing prayer—prayer that has power or influence with God. Let us now closely study the excruciating pain experienced by Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, as written in Luke 22:39-46, and the effects of that experience.
In Verse 39, we see that Jesus and His disciples often prayed on the Mount of Olives. In Verse 40, He urged His disciples to pray, so as not to yield to temptation. In Verse 41, he moved ahead of the disciples, kneeled, and prayed. The content of Christ’s prayer, which is our Word for Today, is quite telling and is contained in Verse 42: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” This expression is deep and shows both the humanity (desire for the removal of the cup of suffering), and divinity (insistence on God’s will as it is done in God’s kingdom) of Jesus Christ.
The greatest prayer a Christian can pray is for God’s perfect will to be done. This is how to prevail. In Verse 44, “And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Spiritual warfare is real, brothers and sisters. If there is any time to engage in the spiritual warfare of travailing in prayer, it is in these perilous times. Are you a praying Christian?
What then is prayer? Prayer is communion with God. It is our greatest privilege because we can enter the presence of God, and come before His throne of Grace. Prayer is the breath of the soul – The soul’s life-giving power. The Word of God transforms and prayer renews the transformed. The Holy Spirit helps us to pray in our closets, in Christian fellowship and public worship. Prayer and obedience to the Word of God are inseparable. He who must commune with God must first listen to Him (Proverbs 28:9). As a believer, prayer can be done daily during your Quiet time.
*Prayer:*
Father, help me to overcome the temptations and challenges of life through constant travailing in prayer. Amen!
