TOPIC: WHEN THE MEN FLED!
*1 Chronicles 10:7, KJV*
_*And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.*_
Good morning and welcome to the 14th day of the ninth month of this year. May the LORD be gracious to you and bless you.
The battle broke out against the Israelites by the Philistines killing several soldiers of Israel at Mount Gilboa (v.1). As a result, the men of Israel fled away and the Philistines pursued them killing the three sons of king Saul (v.2). The battle pressed harder against Israel until king Saul got wounded by the archers killing himself and even his armour bearer took his own life too (vv 3-6). What then happened?
Today's text tells us that when the Israelites in the valley saw that king Saul and his sons were dead, they too fled away. Why? Because their leader and his possible successors were dead. There was a vacuum in the leadership of Israel at a very rough and tough time. There was no one to dish out instructions for the next line of actions. As a result of the raging battle, the remaining men became sore afraid and fled their own land permitting foreigners (infidels) to take over their cities. Can you imagine that?
Beloved reader, leadership is very vital, crucial and influential. Who is your leader? Or if you're a leader, what sort of leadership are you providing? Again according to today's reading, when king Saul took his own life in the battle, his armour bearer followed suit. Can you see how leadership influenced him to die? We must be praying for our leaders for us to enjoy peaceful, prosperous and progressive moments (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
O LORD give us goodly and godly leaders in all areas of life that will do what pleases You only.
Remain Blessed.
Shalom!
