INTRODUCTION: Our Senior Pastor Dr Godwin Uche Joshua began saying, some believers don't understand what sacrifice is all about, many are not taught, others refuse the teaching. Many are ignorant of this great secret. Sacrifice is not an ordinary offering. It is an offering you give for a special purpose. It will always cost you something special. Every believer who desires an outstanding results must be willing to sacrifice something. Our Senior Pastor Dr Godwin Uche Joshua emphasized that God responds to sacrifice faster. There's no one who made sacrifice in the scriptures that God didn't respond to!
WHAT IS SACRIFICE?
Sacrifice is the act of giving up something valuable such as time, resources, or comfort for a greater goal, higher purpose or to help others, it's often involving loss or suffering. Sacrifice signifies a profound choice to prioritize something else, whether it's faith, family, or a cause, over personal comfort or gain, as seen in Biblical or religious offerings to God.
WHAT ARE KEY ASPECTS OF SACRIFICE?
1. VOLUNTARY GIVING UP.
It's a deliberate act, not something forced upon you, involving a conscience choice to relinquish something special or valuable.
2. HIGHER PURPOSE:
The surrendered item or self is given for something deemed more important, sacred, or pressing.
3. RELIGIOUS ROOTS:
Historically; it involved ritual offerings. (Animal, possessions) to God to establish connection, show praise or atone for sins.
4. SECULAR APPLICATION.
In modern terms. It is giving up personal desires for God or family.
There are two types of secular applications of sacrifice. A. Regular. B Special.
5. LOVE AND DEVOTION.
It's an act of love and deep commitment, demonstrating one's dedication to God, family or principle, such as Jesus Christ sacrifice to lay down His life for mankind.
6. INNER STATE.
In faith, it's less about the outward act and more about a broken spirit or repentant heart, a willingness to put God first.
CONCLUSION: SACRIFICE is demonstrating commitment, love, or alignment with deeper values, and it often involves a cost or loss of perceived greater gains or purpose. It requires letting go of immediate gratifications and comforts to pursue long term goals. It is not just about giving up material things. It often involves time, effort, and sometimes personal pleasures.
