Oh Allāh, rectify the affairs of the Muslims in Palestine and in every place,

Oh Lord of Majesty and Bounty!

Ameen ya rab!

My heart goes out to the people of Palestine, who have endured decades of conflict and hardship. It's a place where generations have lived through unimaginable challenges, yet their resilience and determination continue to inspire the world. The Day of Judgment where all souls find their just reckoning.

The Day of Justice, this is the day of the believers!

And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.
(Surah Al-An'am, 6:135)

Strive Throughout the Last Ten Nights—Not Just the Odd Ones!

Shaykh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (raḥimahullāh) was asked about the best time to seek Laylatul Qadr. He responded (paraphrasing):

"Laylatul Qadr occurs within the last ten nights of Ramaḍhān, as is authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:

((تَحَرَّوْا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِي الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ))

"Seek Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramaḍhān." [Reported by Bukhāri & Muslim on the authority of ‘Ā'ishah -raḍhiyallāhu ‘anhā]

In another narration from Bukhāri, the Prophet ﷺ specified:

((تَحَرَّوْا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِي الْوِتْرِ مِنَ الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ))

"Seek Laylatul Qadr on the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramaḍān."

There are two ways to determine the odd nights:

1️⃣ Counting from the beginning of Ramaḍān – Laylatul Qadr could fall on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th night.

2️⃣ Counting from the end of Ramaḍān – The Prophet ﷺ said:

((الْتَمِسُوهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِي تَاسِعَةٍ تَبْقَى، فِي سَابِعَةٍ تَبْقَى، فِي خَامِسَةٍ تَبْقَى))

"Seek Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramaḍān: on the night when nine, seven, or five nights remain." [Reported by Bukhāri on the authority of Ibn Abbās -raḍhiyallāhu ‘anhumā]

According to this method, if Ramaḍān has 30 days, Laylatul Qadr may fall on an even night:

- The 22nd night (when 9 remain)
- The 24th night (when 7 remain)
- The 26th night (when 5 remain)

This was the understanding of Abū Sa‘īd Al-Khudri (raḍhiyallāhu ‘anhu), as narrated in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim.

If Ramaḍhān has 29 days, both methods of calculation align.

Given this, a believer should exert themselves in worship throughout all ten nights, not just the odd ones. This was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ, as ‘Ā’ishah (raḍhiyallāhu ‘anhā) reported:

((كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا دَخَلَ الْعَشْرُ شَدَّ مِئْزَرَهُ، وَأَحْيَا لَيْلَهُ، وَأَيْقَظَ أَهْلَهُ))

"When the last ten nights of Ramaḍān began, the Prophet ﷺ would tighten his waistcloth (i.e., devote himself fully to worship), spend the nights in worship, and wake his family." [Reported by Bukhāri & Muslim]

The Battle of Badr took place on the 17th of Ramadan, two years after Prophet Muhammad ﷺ migrated to Madinah. 14 companions were martyred in the battle.

‎The battle of Badr was the most important and the first major battle the Muslims fought. The Muslim army, which numbered around 313, faced an army of 1000 of the Quraysh. Through the help of Allāh, the Muslims emerged victorious.

‎The Battle of Badr was a turning point in the early history of Islam, as it demonstrated the strength and determination of the Muslim community and helped to establish the dominance of the Muslim forces. In the Quran, the battle is referred to as Yawm al- Furqan (The Day of the Criterion)

‎The Prophet (ﷺ) was engaged in dua, and Allāh responded to his prayers by sending an army of one thousand angels. Badr lies 130 km from Madinah.

The names of the 14 Muslim martyrs at Badr are inscribed into the Badr Martyrs Monument near the battlefield

Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent.

My Lord, forgive me, and accept my repentance, for You are the Accepter of Repentance and the Merciful.

O Allah, I ask You for certainty, pardon, and well-being in this worldly life and the Hereafter.

I ask forgiveness from Allah the Almighty, besides Whom there is no other god, the Ever-Living, the Eternal, and I turn to Him in repentance.

Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Sometimes Allāh refers to Himself by “We” or “Us”

One may notice that sometimes Allāh refers to Himself by We or Us. This is not an indication of different “personalities” or “forms” of Allāh as it is the case in the Trinity concept of the Catholic Church. Allāh (God) is One.

The use of We and Us is always associated with verses referring to Allāh’s Greatness in His Lordship e.g. Creation, Power, Might, etc… This is very common in the Arabic language. a king issues orders or statements by saying “We” or “Us.” The power and might of any king is imperfect. Allāh Glorification of Himself is perfect because He is perfect.

In His address to mankind by calling them to direct their worship to Him, Allâh always refers to Himself by I, Me, and myself.

All of this is well understood in Arabic and also in other Semitic languages. Even in English, there is the “Royal We and Us” as we hear it from statements by members of the Royal Family in England and elsewhere. To Allâh, however, belongs the best examples, names, attributes, and actions.

"Islam is the religion of whole humanity and Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is a Prophet for every human being because when we talk about the Prophet we say "Rahmatallil Aalameen" not "Rahmatallil Muslimeen" so He is not the Prophet of Muslims only, He is Prophet of all."

Maneeha is a Good Deed of Charity

'Abdullaah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنه) narrated that Allaah's Messenger (ﷺ) said:

“There are forty good qualities (virtuous deeds) and the best of them is the Maneeha of a she-goat, and anyone who does one of these virtuous deeds hoping for Allah's reward with firm confidence that he will get it, then Allah will make him enter Paradise because of it.” [Al-Bukhari]

Hassan ibn 'Atiyyah (the narrator of the Hadeeth from Abu Kabshah) said:

"We counted the matters (good acts) which are less than the Maneeha of a she-goat, such as: answering the greetings, invoking Allah's mercy for someone who sneezes, removing harmful objects from the road, and the like, but we could not count even fifteen qualities." [Fath al-Baari]

Maneeha is basically lending something to someone for temporary benefit, without losing the right of its ownership. This is a meritorious act. The Maneeha could be a sort of gift in the form of a she-camel or she-goat which is given to someone temporarily so that he may benefit from its milk. Then the animal is returned to its owner.

An example of Maneeha nowadays could be lending one's car to someone with a full tank of fuel, or a printer along with hefty ink supply or a computer, etc. All these can be lent with a condition to be returned to its owner after an appointed period.

Another example of Maneeha which is reported by at-Tirmidhi and others: Al-Baraa' ibn Aazib (رضي الله عنه) narrated that he heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say:

“Whoever gives a Maneeha of milk (i.e. a she-goat or cow and so forth which gives milk), or a Maneeha of silver [i.e. gives silver to make a business with it (to trade in) then returns the bases to the owner after an appointed period decided by the twol, or guides (a person) to the right way, that is equivalent to the manumission of a slave.

And whoever says: 'La ilaaha illa Allaah, Wahdahu laa Sharika Lahu, Lahul-Mulku wa Lahul-Hamdu, wa Huwa 'ala Kulli Shay'in Qadeer,' it will be for him as if he manumitted a slave.” [ Saheeh at-Targheeb no.1535 and graded Saheeh]

Accordingly, the Sunnah of Maneeha is a very high (noble) Sunnah which the religion of Islam exhorts the believers to adopt and spread in their communities.
