Topic: DON’T LOSE TREASURES (Part 2)

Text: 1 Samuel 30:1 “And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire.”

It is instructive to note that David and his men had gone to join the king of the Philistines to fight against Israel. When they were later asked to leave the battlefield, they journeyed home only to discover that their wives and children had been taken away and their city burned with fire.

They went to chase victory on the battlefield, but they lost the treasures they left at home.

They pursued what was unimportant and lost what was truly important.

Beloved, as you pursue your goals daily, ensure that you are not chasing what is unimportant while losing grip of what is essential to your life here on earth and in eternity.

Ensure that you are not trading your treasures for leisure or vanity.

Ensure that you do not lose who you are because of what you are pursuing.

Ensure that what you are chasing is not causing you to lose what truly matters.

Ensure that you are not a pursuer of vanity.

David and his men were warriors, but they went to fight the wrong battle against the children of Israel. (See 1 Samuel 29)

They misused their strength and capacity, and it backfired on them.

As you glory in your abilities and capacity, be careful not to use them for the wrong assignments.

Do not use what God has deposited in you against the interest of heaven.

Do not use your gifts against God’s agenda.

Do not allow yourself to be led into the wrong pathway.

Wisdom demands that you do not pursue what is unimportant while losing what is important.

Wisdom demands that you do not use your God given capacity for things that will not advance your destiny and God’s Kingdom.

Wisdom requires that you do not lose yourself because of what you are chasing.

Wisdom requires that you do not lose what you already possess while pursuing what God Himself has not ordained for you.

Do not be counted among those who lose treasures while chasing shadows.

Let God show you what to pursue and what to avoid.

If you lose treasure, you will suffer pressure. David and his men wept until they had no strength left because they lost their treasures through an unnecessary battle.

Examine the battles you are fighting and ask yourself whether they are necessary or uncalled for.

May the Lord give us understanding!

Prayer 🙏

Heavenly Father, help me not to lose my treasures while chasing shadows, in Jesus’ mighty name.

Shalom!

Topic: DON’T LOSE TREASURES

Text: Revelation 3:11
"Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown."

Whatever you do not hold tightly, losing it can happen as quickly as the blink of an eye.

Many people hold their Christian faith so loosely that even a little wind can blow it away from them.

They handle their faith with such levity, not knowing that the adversary of their souls is seeking to sn**ch away that which they have graciously received.

We are often so nonchalant and careless when the Bible clearly instructs us to be sober and vigilant because the adversary is seeking to devour careless and casual believers. (1 Peter 5:8)

In our above text, the church in Philadelphia was given a stern warning by Jesus to hold fast to what they had already received and ensure they did not lose it.

Beloved brethren, have you received salvation? Hold it fast and firmly.

You cannot afford to lose that sweet intimacy and fellowship with your Heavenly Father.

How can you live another day on earth without Jesus in your life?

How can you push Jesus out of the life that you have already surrendered to Him to occupy until you meet Him face to face?

How can you send Jesus out of your life after He has cleansed it and made it habitable for Himself?

Friends, salvation is an eternal treasure, and losing it will bring everlasting shame and regret to anyone.

The Bible tells us how Esau lost his inheritance and later sought it with tears.

Hebrews 12:17 “For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.”

In conclusion, brethren, treasure whatever God has given you and never lose it to pressure.

May the Lord give us understanding!

Prayer 🙏

Heavenly Father, give me the grace to preserve and keep everything You have given me until the very end, in Jesus’ name.

Shalom!

Topic: Benefits of Keeping God’s Word (Part 3)

Text: Proverbs 19:16
"He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die."

Everyone living without being guided by the Word of God is living a life of uncertainty and danger.

Let us look at the story of the young prophet in the Bible and draw some understanding from it.

He disobeyed the commandment that would have preserved him and ended up dying an untimely death.

This teaches us that there is safety in every instruction God gives to us and that we are also kept by the commandments we keep.

Let us examine the book of 1 Kings 13:1-2, 7-10:

“And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the Lord unto Bethel: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.”

“And he cried against the altar in the word of the Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the Lord; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.”

“And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.”

“And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place.”

“For so was it charged me by the word of the Lord, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.”

“So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.”

After he finished carrying out his assignment, the first temptation to violate God’s commandment came from the king, but he overcame it.

Then an older prophet came and convinced him under the guise of “the Lord said,” and he fell for it.

In verses 15-19:

“Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.”

“And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place.”

“For it was said to me by the word of the Lord, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.”

“He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.”

“So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.”

The young prophet followed the old prophet back home to eat, but he never returned to his own city again. He died on that journey.

For further understanding, read the chapter up to verse 25.

It does not matter who tries to convince you against God’s Word, choose to obey God rather than men.

Acts 5:29 “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”

May the Lord give us understanding!

Prayer 🙏

Heavenly Father, I receive grace to remain obedient to Your instructions, in Jesus’ name.

Shalom!

Text: Proverbs 19:16
"He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die."

Every Word of God you keep will always keep you from trouble.

If you keep the Word regarding the fear of God, you will depart from evil.
Job 28:28 “And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”

If you keep the Word of purity, it keeps you pure and unblemished.

If you keep the Word that requires us to love one another, it keeps you from living in unforgiveness and from the tendency of being trapped in bitterness.

In a nutshell, it is in the keeping of God’s Word that we ourselves are kept.

Proverbs 4:3-4 “For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.”

One major thing that the Word of God will always teach us is how to live. It deposits in us the wisdom to escape the way of death.

Beloved, it is in the Word that we find life.
John 1:4 “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

When you embrace the Word and align yourself with its dictates, you are preserved from sudden destruction.

Proverbs 4:20-23 “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”

Beloved, a step away from God’s Word may lead to sorrow and regret.

Solomon said to keep it in the midst of your heart and let not your eyes depart from it by reading it at all times. Why? Because they are life to those who find them.

When you embrace God’s Word with passion, you have embraced life.

Remember, “He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.”

I pray that you will not die physically, spiritually, emotionally, financially, or otherwise, in Jesus’ name!

Prayer 🙏

Heavenly Father, I receive grace to be a keeper of Your Word and not just a hearer, in Jesus’ name.

Shalom!

Topic: Benefits of Keeping God’s Word

Text: Proverbs 19:16
"He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul: but he that despiseth his ways shall die."

When you keep God’s commandments, the commandments will keep you. But to despise them is to head toward the path of death.

Many have lost their souls and lives due to failure to keep God’s instructions. Some are suffering from incurable diseases today, while others are already incarcerated in prison for the same reason.

Friends, God’s commandments are meant to preserve us, not to deprive us.

There are people who feel that God does not want them to enjoy life or have fun as they desire. However, they do not realize that God, who sees the end from the beginning, knows why He forbids certain things.

For instance, God instructed Adam and Eve not to eat from a particular tree so that their lives would not be cut short. But they violated that instruction, and it brought them under the curse of death.

Genesis 2:17
"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

Brethren, everyone who knows God should be grateful for the Word given to us to direct and guide us in the right path.

Psalm 119:105
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

This means that without God’s Word, we would be walking in darkness.

Beloved, God’s commandments are not grievous, but they can save us from grief.

1 John 5:3
"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."

In our above text, the Bible says whoever keeps the commandment keeps his own soul, but anyone who despises it shall die.

Brethren, every Word of God is meant not to hurt you, but to guide, correct, and direct you for your own good.

Therefore, as we go through this day, let us keep this Word in our hearts, live by it, and it will do us good.

Have a blessed morning.

Prayer 🙏

Heavenly Father, I receive grace to obey everything You have commanded me through Your Word, in Jesus’ name.

Shalom!
