The three-days Ministers/Officers Mid-Year Supervisory Retreat concluded with a Holy Communion Service.
The Head of South West Mission, Evangelist Olusegun Demehin, delivered a message titled "The Higher Life", taking his main text from John 21:1–17.
In his exposition, he emphasized that Peter's focus was initially on the earthly benefits he could obtain from Jesus rather than on a genuine love for Christ and His work. He challenged ministers and executive members to cultivate intimacy with God and develop a sincere agape love for the Master and His Kingdom.
He highlighted four categories of people and the lifestyles they represent:
Those living for nothing – people without a clear direction or purpose.
Those living for things – individuals whose lives revolve around acquiring wealth, power, fame, and material possessions.
Those living for purpose – people who pursue personal goals and ambitions with determination, such as academic achievements, promotions, titles, and professional accomplishments.
Those living for the Kingdom – believers whose primary desire is to see the Kingdom of God expand and for God to be glorified.
He further explained that individuals who desire to make a lasting impact in life carefully weigh their thoughts, decisions, and actions against their purpose. Whatever does not align with that purpose is deliberately discarded.
The speaker stressed that what believers do for the Lord determines the quality and impact of the life they live. He reiterated that the Higher Life is not centered on the pursuit of material things but on fulfilling God's purpose.
To attain the Higher Life, he outlined the following steps:
Be born again and receive the Zoe (God-kind) Life.
Surrender your life completely to God through a deliberate and conscious decision.
Move beyond surrender to kingdom investment through evangelism, discipleship, mentoring, and other forms of Christian service.
Remain conscious of your humanity and guard against pride, self-exaltation, and the celebrity syndrome.
For his concluding charge, he read from Colossians 3:1–2, encouraging believers to seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God, and to set their affection on heavenly things rather than earthly pursuits.
The message served as a powerful reminder that the Higher Life is a life wholly devoted to Christ, His purpose, and the advancement of His Kingdom.
