WHEN GOD SEEMS SILENT, KEEP TRUSTING
Gospel: Matthew 15:21–28
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, sometimes God answers our prayers immediately, sometimes He asks us to wait, and sometimes His response seems to be silence. Yet, true faith is remaining with God regardless of the answer.
In today’s Gospel, a Canaanite woman approaches Jesus because her daughter is suffering. She cries out for help, but Jesus does not respond immediately. Even when she faces discouragement, she refuses to give up. Her persistence eventually leads Jesus to praise her: “Woman, great is your faith!”
What can we learn from this woman?
1. Approach God with humility.
She did not approach Jesus with demands or a sense of entitlement. She simply pleaded for mercy. We too must remember that God’s blessings are gifts. Instead of saying, “God, You must do this for me,” let us say, “Lord, I trust You. Please give me what is best.”
2. Ask God boldly, but surrender the outcome to Him.
We should not be afraid to bring our needs before God—our families, work, health, worries and dreams. But after asking, we must surrender everything to His wisdom. We see only today; God sees the whole journey. His answer may be yes, no, or wait, but His love never changes.
3. Do not abandon prayer when God seems silent.
The Canaanite woman experienced silence, yet she moved closer rather than walking away. There are moments when we pray and wonder why nothing is happening. At such times, we must remember that God's silence does not mean His absence. Continue praying, continue trusting, and continue believing.
4. Let faith be greater than your difficulties.
This woman faced rejection and discouragement, but she remained persistent. Jesus was impressed not by the size of her problem, but by the strength of her faith. Our tears are real, our struggles are real, but faith gives us the courage to keep going.
5. Let prayer be a relationship with God, not a business transaction.
Prayer is more than asking God for things. It is staying close to Him. We should not seek God only when we need a miracle. When He blesses us, we thank Him. When we are waiting, we trust Him. When we do not understand, we still hold on to Him.
Conclusion
The Canaanite woman went to Jesus seeking healing for her daughter, but she received something even greater: the testimony of Jesus Himself that she had great faith.
May our faith also become strong enough to pray with humility, ask with confidence, wait with patience, and surrender completely to God's will.
When life becomes difficult, may we never run away from Jesus. May we run closer to Him. And when our prayers seem unanswered, may we continue to say:
“Lord, I believe in You. I trust You. Let Your will be done in my life.”
Amen.

THE ASSUMPTION: HOPE FOR THE HOLY SOULS
The Assumption of Mary is a powerful sign of hope for the souls being purified in Purgatory. As Queen of Heaven and Mother of the redeemed, Mary reminds us that purification is not the end—it is a journey toward the presence of God.
The souls in Purgatory belong to God. They are not condemned; rather, they await complete purification before entering the fullness of heavenly glory. The prayers of the Church and the intercession of Mary offer them comfort and hope.
Catholic tradition especially encourages us to remember the departed in prayer. On the Feast of the Assumption, we are reminded to place the faithful departed into Mary’s loving care and to pray for their journey toward eternal life.
Today, let us not forget those who have gone before us. Our prayers are an expression of love, and we entrust every departed soul to the mercy of God.

Recite three Hail Marys for the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

REFLECTION DAY FOUR
THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY IN THE BIBLE — CONTINUATION
As we continue our reflection, Scripture gives us several passages that help us appreciate God’s power to bring His faithful servants into His heavenly glory.
The Third Heaven:
St. Paul speaks of a man who was caught up into the third heaven and experienced Paradise in a way beyond human understanding (2 Cor. 12:2–4). This reminds us that God is capable of granting His servants extraordinary participation in heavenly realities.
The Woman in Revelation:
Revelation presents a woman clothed with the sun, standing on the moon and crowned with twelve stars (Rev. 12:1–2). Catholic tradition sees this image as having a profound connection with Mary, the Mother of Christ and the faithful woman who remained united with God. The imagery also echoes God’s promise concerning the defeat of the serpent in Genesis 3:15.
Mary, Full of Grace:
The Angel Gabriel greeted Mary as “full of grace” (Lk. 1:28). Her entire life was surrendered to God’s will. The Church therefore understands her Assumption as the completion of the extraordinary grace given to her as the Mother of Jesus and as a sign of the resurrection promised to those who belong to Christ.
IN SUMMARY
Although Scripture does not describe the Assumption of Mary in a single direct passage, it does contain examples of God taking His faithful servants into heavenly glory. Enoch was taken by God, Elijah was carried into heaven, and Moses and Elijah later appeared with Christ at the Transfiguration.
The Assumption is therefore understood in Catholic faith as the culmination of God’s work in Mary: the woman who welcomed Christ, followed Him faithfully, and remained united with Him was brought into heavenly glory, body and soul.
Mary’s Assumption points us toward the hope of resurrection and reminds us that God’s promise of eternal life is greater than death and decay.
O Mary, assumed into heaven, pray for us.
Amen.

✨ REFLECTION – DAY THREE ✨
THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY IN THE BIBLE 🙏🏽
The word “Assumption” may not appear directly in Scripture, but the Bible gives us examples of God taking people beyond ordinary earthly life.
📖 Enoch “walked with God, and then he was no more, because God took him” (Genesis 5:24).
🔥 Elijah was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind, witnessed by Elisha (2 Kings 2:11).
⚔️ Moses also appears in a mysterious heavenly encounter after his death, as described in Jude 1:9.
✝️ And at the death of Jesus, Scripture tells us that the tombs opened and many holy people were raised and appeared to others (Matthew 27:52–53).
These passages remind us of a powerful truth: God has the power to bring His faithful ones into His presence.
Mary’s Assumption therefore points us toward the hope of every Christian—the promise that life does not end with the grave, but finds its fulfillment in God. 🌹

✨ REFLECTION — DAY TWO
THE TOMB OF MARY
Where did the Blessed Virgin Mary complete her earthly journey?
Tradition gives us different accounts. Some point to Ephesus, while the ancient Eastern Christian tradition places the end of Mary’s earthly life in Jerusalem, near the Mount of Olives, where a tomb was built in her honour.
But there is something remarkable about the tradition surrounding that tomb: Mary’s body was not found there.
According to ancient Christian testimony, after Mary was buried, her tomb was later opened and found empty, with only her burial cloth remaining. This became part of the early Christian reflection on the mystery of her Assumption—body and soul—into heavenly glory.
Mary’s empty tomb reminds us of a powerful Christian hope: death is not the end for those who belong to Christ. What God accomplished in Mary points toward the resurrection and eternal life promised to all who faithfully follow Him.
🌹 O Mary, assumed into Heaven, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
🙏 Day Two of our August Novena: May Mary lead us closer to Jesus and strengthen our hope in eternal life.
