WHEN THE FIRE WENT COLD
Michel loved Jesus. In campus fellowship, he was the one leading prayers, fasting on Wednesdays, and telling people about God. Everyone called him "Bro Michel Fire."
But after school, he got a job in Lagos. New city. New friends. No church on his street.
First he missed 1 Sunday service... "I’m tired from work."
Then 2... "My boss said we must work overtime."
Then his Bible app notifications became annoying, so he muted them.
Slowly, the things he once ran from started looking normal. Small compromise here, small lie there.
One night he caught himself saying, “God understands. I’ll go back to Him when things are stable.”
That’s when he had slipped backslidden.
Not overnight. Little by little, like water leaking from a bucket.
His heart felt dry.
Praying felt empty.
But God didn’t leave.
One Sunday, a song played in a danfo: “Come back home, my child. I’m still waiting.”
Michel broke down. He remembered Jeremiah 3:22 “Return, O backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings.”
He knelt right there and said, “Lord, I’m sorry. Rekindle the fire.”
He didn’t wait to be "perfect" first. He just came back.
Listen
Backsliding isn’t always loud sin.
Sometimes it’s just drifting. Hebrews 2:1
“We must pay more careful attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.”
But the good news? _1 John 1:9_ — _“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us.”_
God isn’t waiting to punish you. He’s waiting to restore you. Like the prodigal son.
