EPHESIANS: Jesus Christ, The Christian & Christianity (Ephesians 1:1) - LESSON 1

There are three main themes of the book of Ephesians:

(1) Christ has reconciled all creation to himself and to God;

(2) Christ has united people from all nations to himself and to one another in his church; and

(3) Christians must live as new people.

The book Ephesians presents the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the answer to the brokenness in this world – to a culture that is marred by injustice and oppression.

Ephesians is an exact replica of the present modern day christianity in that many find it difficult to align with Gods word because of the perversenes in the world and even the confusion within christian circles and messages. This confusion has made living the christian life so seemingly complex. Conversely, trying to simplify it with mere human sense, unholy social comparisons instead of spiritual discernment, has also cheapened the grace and removed it's spiritual flavour.

Hear this: Spiritual means - Spirit-Ritual, Holy-Spirit-Ritual. But if you remove the Holy spirit, you're left with religious rituals.

If you're a christian, a believer in Christ, please dont be deceived, you're a figting force, a joy to heaven and envy of the demonic world. You're an endangered specie. They want you to stop fighting, or at least slow down. When you stop fighting or you ease down, the enemy gains ground in your territory. That fight is a fight of faith (see 1 Tim 6:12).

Your strength is first in Jesus, then in the anointed system he has set up for your refereshment and sharpening. That system is the church and its saints . But don't get it confused. Jesus first, and what represents Jesus better than His word and his Holy spirit? You're first a lone fighter, then a unit member. Be guided!

You have to make ends meet, you have to be good person to everyone, you have to represent the Kingdom of God well, yet, you have to keep the bond between you and Jesus uncompromised. Its a herculean task. You have to learn and keep learning from Him. Its an impossible task, only possible with Jesus and his Holy Spirit.

Each day, for a couple of months, we will be studying the book of ephesians verse by verse. It contains some of the deepest revelations about the christian life.

Now, let's start from verse 1:

Ephesians 1:1
[1]Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

Now, let's do a switch, insert your name where Paul's is, in that scripture, and see if you can confidently say that you're pursuing his exact will for you and ministering to (serving, or working with or solving problems for) the right set of people ordained for you by God, at this time.

Let me try first..

"DAVID, a teacher of God's word, by the will of God, to the saints which are at 'ELAPINO.COM', and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:"

Now, it doesnt have to be all ministerial or churchy. Your job could be your own spiritual calling. In fact, you are the pastor of your own startup, or department, or NGO.

how about....

"DAVID, an Education Business Strategist, by the will of God, to school owners, teachers and education stakeholders and to the global Education Community"

Take this challenge. Write your own. You may not need to enter any prayer and fasting for this yet, if you've been a believer for a while, something is already articilating in your spirit regarding this. Give it expression, write it down, we will work on it and as we proceed and get more clarity.

YOU HAVE A SOLUTION TO THAT PROBLEM IN THE PALACE | Dan 5:10-12 | The King Has Sent For Me

The next time someone prays over you that You're next in line for a breakthrough, it's because you're next in line for an invention, an innovation, a discovery, a research, a presentation, that'll lead to that breakthrough. It's your turn to create something, or create something better. Here's how to create. By creating! Sitting down quietly and thinking and praying and studying and meditating for long enough until light breaks in you. Then jumping out into hard work, leveraging all God given resources, relationships and spiritual gifts until it is materialized. You don't create a breakthrough by prayer and fasting alone. Add work to it.

What problems can you solve? Now, here's where you may need to change strategy. There's a difference between poverty alleviation and wealth creation. Many of us are busy doing things that'll only be just enough for us survive fincially. You are needed to solve problems in high places. But where's your diligence. You sleep too much, you eat too much, you have no special skill that people cannot live without patronizing. And you're not even planning to acquire any. If God has called you to be a pastor, where is the evidence of that in the number of hours you spend with his word? Many have become cheap motivational speakers.

Not so for Daniel, he was ready for that D-day. He had once solved a riddle for the King's father, Nebuchadnezzar. And the queen was quick to recommend Him - Dan 5:10-12

The interesting thing is that when there's a problem in the places of authority, then there's serious problem everywhere in the kingdom. A government that finds it difficult to fix maternal health care for instance risks increase in maternal and child mortality rates especially before, during and after childbirth. That reminds me of the story of a young Nigerian woman - Adepeju Jaiyeoba, who upon witnessing the death of an educated and enlightened loved one during child birth, due to poor medical services was moved passionately to save the situation, which of course is more prevalent within the African rural communities.

She stayed at it and soon received an unexpected call from the white house to meet with the then President Barack Obama. She has since supplied over a million of these maternal kits to about 1000 communities. She shared this testimony in a church and I believe God gave her that idea. But idea is never enough. If it were, everyone'll be billionaires by now. Idea needs hard work, persistence, learning and prayer.

The solutions to the problems of the governments and - by extension, of the nations in these last days reside with God's children. And that's because there's a spirit in us, the inspiration of God gives us understanding - Job 32:8. God is waiting for you to wake up from your slumber and stop expecting a revival. You've been revived, quickened by the Holy Spirit you received at new birth - Rom 8:11. Stop being lazy and revive yourself daily in the word. Chisel off the mediocrity from your being, and let the solution in you emerge. See you at the top in Jesus Name. Amen.

THERE'S TROUBLE IN THE PALACE - Part 1 | Dan 5:1-7 | The King Has Sent For Me

When there's trouble in the palace, it means every one surrounding the king has run out of solutions or do not even have a clue at all. Before you hear that there's trouble at any seat of power, the people in the corridors of power have reached their wits' end. They've probably tried to cover up the situation for so long until there was a leak and the kingdom under them had to be briefed that there's a problem.

When there's trouble within the government, any solution from anywhere and from anyone, will do. All personal aides and senior special assistants and government contractors have offered the best of their advice's and skills, yet the problem isn't solved.

In Daniel chapter 5 verses 1 to 7, there was trouble in the palace of King Belshazzar. Fear had gripped the king, and he needed an urgent interpretation to a strange writing on the wall by a strange hand. That writing looked like a judgement. Apparently, he had provoked God by dishonouring HIS temple. He made unholy merry in wine with his princes, wives and concubines using vessels stolen from the Jerusalem temple years earlier by his father Nebuchadnezar. Worse still, he worshipped his gods while doing so. Abomination!

So the king was in trouble and by extension, his kingdom was in trouble too. That's the point I made earlier. Many leaders of the world have no heart for God and so they're in trouble now, but they're silent about it. They believe in science and philosophy and dirty politics, power games, corruption, but not in the one who created them. They are sinners and they are having problems. They have no solutions and are in desperate need of solutions from anywhere. That's where you and I come in. We have a solution they are desperately looking for!

This is what the Bible meant in Romans 8:19 that the earnest expectation of the creature awaits the manifestation of the word of God. Our God given talents are not meant for the church only, they're meant for the world.

Solution providers are the ones who define what a solution should look like, those suffering from the problem just need a relief, not minding whichever colour it wears or from whom it is coming. Look around the world. Check the news, check your county's government, and economy and you'd be shocked that the only problem really is that of leadership. People forcing their evil agenda on innocent citizens in broad day light for personal gains. Leaders robbing their people of what rightly belongs to them, and the unborn childen of a glorious future.

But for how long will you lament? Caution however, for a born again Christian, jumping out and saying 'Yes I can do this, yes, I can change that' can lead you into trouble. You can do all things ONLY in Christ that strengthens you and only in what he strengthens you for. He will only strengthen you for his own will and not yours. Waiting on God to get a leading is the right place to start. If you already have that leading, then blow it big, don't wait until it gets crystal clear, start working on the simple leading and it'll get clearer as you move. Stop operating conviniently, below your God given capacity, expand. Show yourself to the world,

“You can’t be famous when you hide like this! If you’re so great, prove it to the world!” . The Bible said that, not me.

As we can see, there's trouble in the palace, and our solutions are desperately sought for. If we exhibit them, God reigns, if we're shy, mediocres continue to have their way. The choice is ours.

Lesson 9 | YOUR ATTENTION IS NEEDED | Exodus 3:3 | The King Has Sent For Me

Ok, pharaoh made the people exceed their 400 years earlier prophesied slavery. He punished them and they groaned. And God heard their groaning as he told Moses in Exodus 3:7. He called Moses out of a storm, out of fire just to prove the point i've been trying to make here by the spirit of God. There was fire, but the leaves aren't burning. That's the point I'm making. God is in that storm, stop paying attention to the heat, pay attention to Jesus and you'll find out God's in it afterall..

Right in the middle of your storm, your attention is needed. Look closely and you'll see the hand of God there. Connect the dots and you will find something that defies all human explanation - a miracle that happened to you against all odds. A door that opened even when all other doors were shut. Healing that happened miraculously even while you suffered other pains. A provision that come through supernaturally even in the midst of drought. Then will you sense the urge to open your mouth wide and worship him, because even in the storm, he is right there. That's exactly what Moses did. He pulled off His shoes in awe. Because the king called Him out of the fire.

Listen closely, can you hear God calling you out of your challenges? The storm will be over the moment you hear his still small voice right in the middle of the storm. And just as the disciples in Mark 4:39 calmed down right in the middle of the raging storm in the sea and heard Jesus say 'peace be still', you have to calm down and hear him call you. He's calling your attention. Your king is calling you, right in the middle of those challenges, right now.

Think about the issues you earnestly desire to pass away in your life. I'm saying look closely, calm down and hear God in it. He's saying something. Just calm down and praise Him through it. Say Lord Jesus. I thank you for the storm. That storm is over this year. I'm seeing them no more. I'm starting out strong and victorious in Jesus Name. Amen.

I understand completely that you may even be suffering from some particular disobedience, and you may be thinking you brought that affliction upon yourself. I like you to praise God and say - HALLELUJAH! Thanks God you gave me another chance.

Every storm has God's footprints. And so, if you're yet to be on his side, chances are the storm raging in your life now, could overwhelm you. But Jesus is in it and He wants you to be in him. He wants to carry you through that storm. His word says you will go through fire and water but you'd neither be burnt not drowned. That's Isaiah 43 verse 2. So come to Jesus Today.

Say Lord Jesus, I thank you for your life, death and resurrection. I receive your forgiveness and I accept you as my Lord and saviour. From today, your will, will be done in my life and I will rest assured that you're always with me even till the end. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Lesson 8 | PRAISE GOD IN THE STORM | Exodus 7:3-5 | The King Has Sent For Me

Do you see where I'm going?

Now that question is not from me. It's God's word to you. He's asking you:

"Do you not see where I'm going with all of these storms raging in your life? I'm going somewhere. Look closely and connect the dots. I am bigger than the storm, whatever challenge or storm you're going through right now, the actors of that storm are ignorantly helping to fulfil my plan for your life".

When pharaoh refused to allow the Israelites leave, he thought he was being king and wielding authority. But ignorantly to him, he's only playing out God's script. God revealed in Exodus chapter 7 verses 3 and 4 that he simply hardened Pharaoh's heart to hasten his destruction, so he could let the people go and so the Egyptians, who are idolaters, would see those signs and wonders and come to know God.

Ultimately, God hardening pharaoh's heart, and all the storm that followed was to serve one cause - So HIS name can be glorified.

That's exactly the case in our lives. The purpose every storm should serve is to glorify God. So begin to give him that praise and glory now. Please check Exodus 7:3-5 closely, especially verse 5

3 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them

This year, you must begin to see those challenges as playing out God's script for your life. One thing is certain, they will be to your advantage and you will locate God right in the middle of everything, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Lesson 7 | THAT STORM IS FOR YOUR GOOD | Gen 50:20 | The King Has Sent For Me.

So then, I began to think. How? Why? How do we connect the evident material destruction we see during and after a storm with the fact that God is in the storm and that God delights in the storm and also that the storm is fulfilling His word, according to what we read in Psalm 148:7-8. God was quick to show me.

While the devil made them arrest Jesus, torture Him, convict Him and finally kill Him on the cross, he never knew he was fulfilling God's plan. Oh, how foolish Satan was. He possessed the minds of all the actors in that ex*****on, from Judas, to Pilate, to Herod, the people, and the soldiers - His thinking was, "the moment I kill the so called messiah, let's see how he will save the world". Unknown to him, killing the messiah was the exact game plan, and he (devil) has foolishly acted it out. Bible says in 1 Cor 2:8: "The princes of this world never knew about Jesus being the hidden wisdom of God in a mystery. Had they known it, they wouldn't have crucified the Lord Of Glory. Hallelujah".

The same thing happened in Genesis chapter 37 verses 18 to 30 when Joseph's brothers decided to sell him into slavery. They thought doing so should kill all the dreams he had shared with them earlier in verses 5 to 8 - his dreams about being a leader over them. They thought they could truncate God's will for Joseph by selling him into slavery. But they goofed! They were fools. Doing so simply helped fulfill the prophesy. Joseph himself later confirmed it in Gen 50:20, that even though they planned it as evil, God used their evil to His advantage. I see God using every evil in your life to His advantage and your advantage in Jesus Name.

God always blindfolds the devil with the storm. He thinks he's the one dancing, but too foolish to see God playing the drums for his dance of shame.

Satan is foolishly helping to fulfil God's plan in your life. He thinks he's delaying you? No he isn't, God is ordering your steps to make the right choice. The moment you know this, you step into a worry-free zone of life. Jesus is Lord, even in your storm and that's the assurance you need, that it'll end in praise, in Jesus Name. Amen.
