1. Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullahra narrates that the Holy Prophetsa said: “Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, like a sparrow's nest for Allah or even smaller, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.”

2. Hadith No: 738
Narrated/Authority of Jabir bin Abdullah
that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: "Whoever builds a masjid (mosque) for the sake of Allah, like a sparrow's nest or even smaller, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise." (Sahih)

3. Why we must come together to build masjid

At the heart of any Islamic community, a masjid can be found. Mosques are as old as Islam itself; they are the beating heart of our community and stand as a physical example of our faith. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) even helped in the construction of the first masjid in Medina, as it was part of his will to define a place of worship for Muslims everywhere.

A masjid provides us with so much more than a simple house of worship though, it is a precious sanctuary that provides a place for individual enlightenment, education and moral guidance. Inside the hallowed walls of a blessed masjid is where we teach our children about the Qur’an, where we come to honour and worship Allah (SWT) and where we can come together for special occasions in the community, such as holidays, weddings and funerals.

As Muslims, we recognise the importance of these beautiful places of worship, but do you know what the benefits of building a masjid are? The reward for building a masjid is great and ongoing; for every prayer said inside a masjid you have helped build, Allah (SWT) will reward you in Jannah. As well as the rewards you can receive for building a masjid, the community in which you’ve builthe masjid will benefit as well!

In the era of the Prophet ﷺ, Sadaqah, grants and charitable donations were very common. Those that were in need received impact grants by those with wealth. They saw each other as one.

They were not incentivised and driven by worldly gain. They truly were focused on the everlasting & long-term.

See how they financed one another:

1. When the Muslims migrated to Madinah, the people of Madinah did not monetise this opportunity. Instead, they empowered them with Sadaqah. The Ansari companion was prepared to give half of his wealth as Sadaqah to Abdur Rahman Ibn Awf.

2. Yazid ibn Asim (ra) was prepared to split the produce of his land in half and give it to those who needed it.

3. Talha (ra) used to say that the people of Madinah were all beneficiaries of Abdul Rahman ibn Awf: Abdur Rahman paid off the debts of 1/3, lent money to 1/3 which he forgave, and gave Sadaqah grants to 1/3. [Siyar A'lam al-Nubala]

4. Once, Sayyiduna Umar said, "O Prophet! When someone asks you for something, you give. Then someone else comes, you also give. Thereafter, someone else comes, and you promise to give. Then another comes, you promise too (why do you burden yourself when you do not have anything to give?)." The Prophet seemed to dislike this statement, but just then, a companion stood up and said, "O Prophet! Continue spending without fearing any decrease from the Lord of the Throne." The Prophet said, "That is exactly what I have been commanded to do." [Kanzul Ummal]

5. The Prophet ﷺ once said, "If I possessed gold and silver equal to Mount Uhud, I would not like to die with even 1/20th of a Dinar still in my possession." [Bazzar]

6. Umar received a piece of land from Khaybar which was the best property he had ever owned. He gave it away as Waqf. He stipulated that it should never be sold, gifted, or inherited. It's proceeds be given to the poor, relatives, to free slaves, in the path of Allah and to guests." [Bukhari]

7. Whenever the possessions of Ibn Umar caught his eye, he would give it away in charity. He would sometimes give as much as 30,000 Dirhams in a single sitting. [Tabarani]

8. Abu Talha was the wealthiest of all the Ansaar in terms of the date plantations he owned. He loved one particular orchard. He gave it away as Sadaqah. The Prophet ﷺ remarked, ''Wow! This is an excellent investment! This is an excellent investment!" [Bukhari]

9. From the many grants of Uthman, he once gave a hundred fully-loaded camels. [Musnad Ahmad] On another occasion, he gave 1,000 Dinars. [Hakim]

10. Abdur Rahman ibn Awf received 700 camels after a successful business deal. He gave ALL of it together with their carriages and the supplies in Sadaqah. [Musnad Ahmad]

11. Imam Zuhri reports that Abdur Rahman bin Auf gave 1/2 of his wealth in Sadaqah during the life of the Prophet ﷺ.

12. On another occasion, he gave 40,000 Dinars, 40,000 Dirhams, 1,500 camels and 500 horses. [Hilyah]
