YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN SUFFERING | DAY 8 PENTECOST NOVENA 2026 WITH FR. SAMMY UMANAH CM
Biblical Anchor
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ… the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.”
— 2 Corinthians 1:3
Supporting Scripture
“In the world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
— John 16:33
Reflection
Suffering often carries a dangerous whisper:
“God has forgotten me.”
Pain has a way of making people feel isolated.
There are sufferings others can see— loss, sickness, disappointment.
And there are sufferings people carry silently— grief, rejection, unanswered prayers, emotional exhaustion, loneliness, and hidden tears.
Yet suffering is not evidence of God’s absence.
Jesus Himself prepared His disciples with these words:
“In the world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Notice that Jesus did not promise a life without suffering.
He promised something greater:
His presence in suffering and His victory beyond suffering.
He never said:
You will never cry.
You will never struggle.
You will never be wounded.
Instead, He assured us:
You will have trouble — but you will not face it alone.
Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly entered human pain.
He walked with Joseph in prison.
He strengthened Elijah beneath the broom tree.
He stayed with Hagar in the wilderness.
He stood beside Paul in persecution.
And in Jesus Christ, God Himself entered suffering.
The Cross reminds us that God does not stand far away from human pain—He walks through it with us.
The Holy Spirit is called the Paraclete—the One called alongside.
He comforts.
He strengthens.
He intercedes.
He remains.
Sometimes God removes the storm.
Sometimes He strengthens us within the storm.
The Christian life is not the absence of storms; it is the presence of Christ in the storm.
The Cross came before Resurrection.
Good Friday gave way to Easter morning.
Waiting gave way to Pentecost.
Your suffering is not your identity.
Your present pain is not your final chapter.
Even now, God is at work: healing,
restoring,
forming,
and preparing something greater.
So hear this promise again:
You are not abandoned.
You are not forgotten.
You are not defeated.
YDECLARATORY PRAYERS
Father, comfort me in every painful season of my life and let Your presence sustain me!
Holy Spirit, heal every emotional wound and restore every broken place within me!
I receive grace to endure trials with faith, peace, and supernatural hope!
Every spirit of despair, heaviness, fear, and hopelessness, leave my life now in Jesus’ name!
Because Christ has overcome the world, I declare that my suffering shall not defeat me, my pain shall not destroy me, and my present season shall become a testimony to the glory of God! Amen
PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and animate me in all things with Your Spirit.
Amen.
