ADD TO YOUR FAITH (2)
2 Peter 1:3-11

Key Scripture: "For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day" (2 Timothy 1:12)

Yesterday, we started considering a series of reflection on "Add to your Faith" with emphasis on virtue. Today, we shall consider adding knowledge to your faith. We are not to act in faith blindly or ignorantly as believers in Christ.

The knowledge of God, Christ, the Holy Spirit and the word of God helps us to build up faith as children of God. When we grow in the knowledge of the word of God, our faith grow also because faith cometh by hearing the word of God (Rom. 10:17).

Hence, add to your faith knowledge. Do not have faith and worship God ignorantly like the people of Athens. Apostle Paul testified of them, "For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you" (Acts 17:23).

Beloved, study, meditate and memorize the word of God to add to your faith. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15).

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord" (Col. 3:16).

Read and Meditate: Daniel 11:32

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to seek for the true knowledge that will strengthen my faith and allegiance with you.

ADD TO YOUR FAITH
2 Peter 1:3-11

Key Scripture: "And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue (2 Peter 1:5a)

In the last two days, we have shared that faith is fundamental to the Christian life, starting from the point of salvation and that without faith it is impossible to please God according to Hebrews 11:6.

However, faith does not work alone, it is dead if it stands alone. Faith works with other spiritual attributes that helps spiritual formation and growth. In the passage Apostle Paul says, add virtue to your faith.

In NLT bible version, virtue is referred to as moral excellence. "In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence" (vs. 5 NLT). Virtue is about uprightness and decency.

Advanced English Dictionary says, virtue is the "quality of doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong". Faith is useless and of no value if you are not upright in your conduct and utterances.

Christians Virtues should be more pronounced in relationships at home, work, school, church, community and everywhere and at all times.

Beloved, we are called to a life of glory and virtue. "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue" (2 Peter 1:3).

THE CONFESSION OF FAITH
Romans 10:8-10

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10)

The confession of faith is part of the faith profession which we considered yesterday for our reflections. Confession of faith is a verbal expression of faith of your allegiance to God and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

It is an open declaration by a sinner who has repented of his or her sins, received forgiveness of sins and accepted Christ to reign in his or her heart as Lord and Saviour. It is the confession of faith in Christ Jesus that results to definite encounter and spiritual transformation.

Confession of faith extent to prayerfully declaring by faith the word of God over the situation that challenges you to secure victory. Jesus says, "For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith" (Mark 11:23).

Believers in Christ should make known of their faith to the world consciously and unconsciously. They should speak about the faithfulness of God by sharing testimonies of God's miraculous deeds in their lives. This is part of confession of faith.

They should speak about their faith concerning eternal home in heaven like the heroes of faith. "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth" (Heb. 11:13).

Beloved, let your faith in Christ be made known through your confession and conversations everyday.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to make known my faith in Christ through my daily conversations.

THE PROFESSION OF FAITH
Hebrews 10:22-25

Key Scripture: "Let us hold fast the profession of roour faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)" (Hebrews 10:23)

Faith profession as a Christian is the lifestyle you live that demonstrate your belief in God and Christ Jesus and your loyalty to Him in words and deeds. Faith profession is the entirety of the Christian life committed to promoting Kingdom values and purpose.

In the Old Testament, we have people who exhibited faith profession like the three Hebrews who told king Nebuchadnezzar: "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king" (Daniel 3:16-17).

We have similar example of faith profession in the New Testament. "And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:27-29).

A devoted believer in Christ, should be ready to defend his faith profession anywhere and anytime.

Beloved, holdfast the profession of your faith without wavering.

FAITH ACCOUNTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS Romans 3:22, 4:4-9

Key Scripture ' " _Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness" (Galatians 3:6)_

Yesterday, we reflected on "Purified by Faith". When a person is purified or sanctified, he lives in the righteousness of God.

Righteousness was imputed or accounted on Abraham because he believed in God implicitly. "Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness" (Galatians 3:6).

Certainly, righteousness will also be accounted to us by God, if we believe in Him. "But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead" (Rom. 4:24).

In other words, if you have faith in God like Abraham, that He will fulfill what he has promised, it will be accounted to you for righteousness.

There is what I call righteousness account kept by God for every believer in Christ. The first deposit in this account is the grace of God released out of His mercy.

Anytime a believer does something that is noteworthy in pleasing God, the righteousness account will be credited. It is this account that God looks at accompanied with mercy before releasing His divine favour and blessings (Ps. 5:12; Heb. 4:16).

Beloved, you are to do the works of righteousness not intentionally to appeal to God to bless you but because you love Him..

Read and Meditate : James 3:23

Prayer : Holy Spirit, help me that my righteousness account with God will not dry up but be increased in Jesus name.

PURIFIED BY FAITH
Acts 15:7-9

Key Scripture: "He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith" (Acts 15:9-10 NIV)

Yesterday, we reflected on being "Justified by faith". Closely related to that which we shall consider today is "Purified by faith". Purification is to cleanse and make holy.

Another word for purification is sanctification. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to sanctify or purify a person, but it has to be received and experienced by faith.

"And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Cor 6:11). "But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth (2 Thess 2:13).

For a child of God, every level of spiritual formation and growth from salvation is attained by faith,

Any believer iin Christ who is purified or sanctified is expected to live in holiness and righteousness. "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world (Titus 2:11-12).

JUSTIFIED BY FAITH
Romans 5:1-2

Key Scripture : Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1)

Yesterday, we considered Salvation by Faith as the foundation of Christian life. You cannot be born again without believing in Jesus Christ and have faith in the redemptive work He did on the cross of Calvary.

You are justified after you are born again and your sins forgiven and cleansed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Rom. 3:24).

Justification is that you are no longer considered a sinner but rather a saint in the presence of God. Justification makes you a child of God and qualifies you to have right standing and access to the presence of God.

We are justified by faith not by our deeds or works like giving tithe and offering, alms to the poor, fasting etc *Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law" (Rom. 3:28).

There are other means of justification apart from faith:
1) By the blood of Jesus Christ (Rom. 5'9).
2) By grace (Titus 3:7).
3) By the name of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 6:11).

Belived, have faith in God for your justification and you shall have the peace of God.

SALVATION BY FAITH
Romans 10:8-10

Key Scripture: "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:10)

The foundation of the Christian life is faith and it is also one of the means of sustaining it.

Today, we shall reflect on salvation by faith. For a person to be born again, he has to believe in Christ Jesus and accept Him as Lord and Saviour.

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:9-10).

Salvation is by grace through faith. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" (Eph. 2:8). From the days of Jesus Christ, many had faith in Him and were saved.

A man that was born blind was healed by Jesus Christ. Thereafter, he believed and accepted Him as Lord. "Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him" (John 9:35-38).

The Eu**ch of Ethiopia was preached to by Philip and he believed and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord "And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" (Acts 8:37).

Beloved, believe in Jesus Christ and the redemptive work He did on the cross of Calvary and be saved.

Read and Meditate: 1 Peter 1:9

Prayer: I believe in the redemptive work of Christ on the cross and accept Him as Lord and Saviour.

Intercession: Pray for the salvation of all your family members

FAITH AND WORKS
James 2:17-26

Key Scripture: "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone" (James 2:17)

Today, we are reflecting on Faith and Works. Faith produce results, impacts and influence, whether it is faith as a profession or faith as a gift or ministry.

The profession of faith in Christ produces transformative life and the gift or ministry of faith produce miracles, signs and wonders. The proof of faith are the works it produces. The work of the faith professed include hospitality and righteousness.

The reason Apostle James writes, "If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works" (vs. 15-18).

Furthermore, faith is made perfect by works. "Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?" (vs. 22).

Therefore, faith and works are inseparables and faith without works is dead or inactive. Conversely, works (good works) without faith in Christ is in futility or dead.

Beloved, have an active faith that produces the works of righteousness and do not be rich in the works of righteousness like Cornelius without faith in Christ and be born again (Acts 10).
