Marriage Insights from the Panel Session. Anchored by the Mshelizas.

As we continued in our Family Month, yesterday’s Couples Sunday was a deeply insightful and refreshing moment for everyone present. To commemorate the day, we had a beautiful panel session where different couples shared sincere lessons, experiences, and wisdom gathered from various stages of marriage.

The session featured couples from different phases of marital journeying 0-10 years, 11-20 years, 21-30 years, and 30 years and above, giving us the opportunity to learn from both growing marriages and seasoned unions built over decades.

From the Omolajas, we learnt the importance of continually learning about your partner, financial transparency, intentionality, and avoiding unhealthy comparisons with social media marriages.
The Kayodes reminded us about the power of communication, support, unity in parenting, and the importance of maintaining friendship and attraction in marriage.

The Adebayos emphasized sacrifice, commitment, patience, forgiveness, and the need to intentionally build love beyond emotions.

The Ekezies, with the wisdom that comes from many years together, shared deeply on companionship, peace, prayerfulness, humility, forgiveness, and the importance of building lasting values and integrity in children.

Indeed, the session was filled with practical wisdom, heartfelt experiences, and timeless truths that reminded us that successful marriages are built intentionally, prayerfully, patiently, and lovingly.

One of the most touching moments of the service was the time set aside for couples to renew their marital vows before God. This sacred act is more than a ceremony; it’s a heartfelt reminder that marriage is a covenant that must be continually nurtured, strengthened, and reaffirmed as couples walk together through life.

We pray that God will grant every couple the grace to remain steadfast in these vows, so that their union will continue to reflect His glory and bring joy, peace, and strength to their homes.

Today’s Couples Sunday, held as part of our Family Month celebration, was a deeply impactful and enlightening time in God’s presence.
We were richly blessed through the teaching session with Dr. Blaise Ijebor, who shared profound truths on God’s design for marriage through Ephesians 5:22 & 25.
We were reminded that marriage is an institution created by God, and that true love goes beyond feelings; it is a choice strengthened by covenant, sacrifice, grace, and intentionality.
We learnt that marriage is not merely about personal happiness or companionship, but a public witness and a ministry through which God speaks to generations. Indeed, every home is preaching a sermon, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
We were also reminded that family is the bedrock upon which strong communities and nations are built, and that the home remains God’s first school of discipleship and character formation.
Dr. Blaise highlighted some of the ways the enemy destroys families, including strife; constant criticism, emotional neglect, unspoken expectations, over exposure to social media, weaponizing past mistakes.
Lack of Intentionality; absence emotional intimacy, poor financial planning, allowing stress to reduce friendship, spiritual disconnection, and generational patterns.
We were charged to love sacrificially, respect intentionally, strengthen our family altars, pray continually for one another, and seek godly mentorship in our marital journey.
The home remains God’s institution for preservation, growth, and the raising of generations for His purpose. May our homes continually reflect God’s wisdom, peace, love, and grace.

The combined couples choir blessed us with a beautiful rendition of “God Give Us Christian Homes.” Their voices carried a heartfelt prayer for families: Homes where the Word of God is cherished and taught,
Homes where the will of the Master is sought,
Homes adorned with the beauty of His love.

It was a powerful reminder that Christian homes are built on faith, love, and devotion to God, the very foundation of strong marriages and families.

Marriage Insights from the Panel Session.

The panel session was filled with wisdom, honesty, and practical truths for building godly and healthy homes.

The Omolajas reminded couples to never stop learning about each other, to stay transparent especially in finances, avoid comparing their marriage with social media standards, and settle issues without keeping scores. They also emphasized that love alone is not enough, intentionality, responsibility, and proper financial planning are necessary.

The Kayodes highlighted the importance of having a supportive partner, maintaining unity before the children, preserving physical attraction in marriage, and communicating effectively. Corrections concerning children should be discussed privately between spouses.

The Adebayos stressed that sacrifice, patience, commitment, and intentionality are essential in marriage. They also encouraged couples to forgive quickly and resolve conflicts promptly.

The Ekezies shared that genuine love brings peace and rest, and that every marriage journey has different seasons, so comparison should be avoided. They emphasized prayer, companionship, humility, forgiveness, and building a lasting legacy of integrity and diligence in children.

Indeed, healthy marriages are built intentionally, sustained by love, communication, sacrifice, forgiveness, prayer, and commitment. 🤍

In our Sunday School classes, we engaged in meaningful and interactive discussions on an important topic; “Confronting and Overcoming Abuse in Marriage”. The conversations were practical, heartfelt, and deeply engaging. Together, we reflected on the truth that as believers, we are called to embody the character and nature of Christ in all our relationships. By living out Christlike love, patience, and integrity in marriage, we not only foster healthier homes but also bring glory to God through the witness of our lives.
