We mourn again the departure of our great scholar, Dr Idriss Abdul-Aziz Dutsen Tanshi, Bauchi state Nigeria
Dr. Idriss popularly known as Dr. Tauhid died in Bauchi last Two weeks ago after battling an undisclosed illness for more than a month and he is already been buried according to Islamic law.
This is a big loss to Bauchi, Nigeria and Africa in entirety as the late Sheikh was a teacher, employer to many, philanthropist and to approximate it all, a serious defender of Tauhid.
I would like to extend my sincere condolence message first to Sheikh's family, then all students of Sunnah, supporters and the entire Islamic community. Indeed, this is a loss worth grieving for, but we ought to grieve within our own Islamic principles. Sheikh is dead, we are sad but we shall utter not a word to displease our Creator, Allah.
Unlike many who see Dr. Idriss as controversial, I consider him a serious Islamic scholar, reformer and mentor to the extent that my wife would say in a jest "malaminka" meaning "my scholar".
In the last Two years since I became his ardent listener, many I could come in contact with within my Islamic knowledge pursuit would criticise the late Sheikh, the least some could say was "Dr Idriss is highly controversial and lacks method of teaching" but hardly will they back it up with evidence.
Finally, I got fully engaged into Sheikh's weekly Khudbah from Dutsen Tanshi mosque via YouTube and all his other lessons. The manner in which he says the truth was second to none I could ever hear for my ears, may be that made him 'controversial'.
He exhibited abundant knowledge; he was fearless, accurate in translating, good at giving examples, deep in thought and contemplation and also had the will to defend the Prophet's teachings (sunnah) even with his blood.
Dr. Idriss built a secondary schools, School of Health and many developmental projects to his Community and the Bauchi state in General.
May his Soul rest in Jannatul firdaus.
