THEME: Praise and Thanksgiving: The Secret of Dwelling in the Presence of God
TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
No matter what happens in life, we are instructed to always give thanks to God. Whether it appears good or bad—loss, disappointment, or even death—God is working behind the scenes. What seems painful to you may be God preparing to open a new chapter in your life.
God allowed the apostles to be imprisoned, not because He had abandoned them, but because He wanted the gospel to reach another place. As Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises in prison, a new chapter opened. The prison doors were shaken, and salvation came to the jailer and his entire household. What looked like a setback became a platform for God’s glory.
Often, God allows certain situations in our lives because He wants to take us to another level. When we murmur or complain, we delay the opening of that new chapter. Thanksgiving has two sides: thanking God when things are good, and also thanking Him when things seem bad. Ingratitude is a thought planted by the enemy to hinder God’s work in our lives.
Whatever happens, thank God, and you will surely see His goodness. Scripture tells us this is the will of God. All things happen because you belong to Him. God may even allow the termination of a job because He intends to give you something better. When you grumble, demons find room to engage your thoughts.
No matter what happens—whether you are abused, misunderstood, or spoken against—thank God. Sometimes God allows people to hate you to prove and refine your maturity as His child. Nursing negativity in your heart does not change anything. But when you learn to give thanks, you will see the hand of God at work.
