The Boys’ Brigade exists to advance Christ’s Kingdom among boys and to promote habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect, and all that tends toward true Christian manliness.
In simpler words, the movement aims to:

Long before youth uniforms and marching bands became common sights, one man in Glasgow Sir William Alexander Smith saw a need. In 1883, he founded The Boys’ Brigade, blending the order of military discipline with the strength of Christian faith. His simple yet powerful idea was to “advance Christ’s Kingdom among boys and promote habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, and self-respect.”
From that small beginning in Scotland, the movement spread across the world touching Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and beyond. In Nigeria, the Boys’ Brigade arrived through missionaries in the early 1900s, quickly becoming a trusted platform for moral formation, community service, and leadership training.
Generations of boys have grown into men of purpose through its drills, camps, parades, and devotions. The Brigade taught not only how to stand tall in uniform but also how to stand firm in character.
Today, the torch still burns bright. Every badge earned, every hymn sung, and every salute given carries forward that timeless vision:
“Sure and Steadfast.”
