*ONLY ONE GOD: BRIEF SERMON ANALYSIS*
*JOSHUA 23:1-16, MARK 12:28-34*
*HALLELUYAH*
The scripture affirms one eternal truth: there is only ONE true God, and our entire lives hinge on how we respond to Him. In the first text, Joshua gave a final address to the Israelites, reminding them that their victory, prosperity, and future depend holding fast to the Lord their God. In second text, Jesus reinforces the same foundation: “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is ONE. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.”
There is only one God; therefore He must be our only love, our only pursuit, and our only allegiance.
We shall now consider seven powerful reasons it is important to love the only one true God.
*1. He is all in all.*
The only one true God is all in all. He alone can create, sustain and save. His reign is everlasting. Understanding this fact can protect us from the danger of idolatry which offers temporal, deceitful and destructive helps; idols of money, pleasure, culture, fame, and self. Where there is only one true God, there should be only one true devotion.
*2. He is Faithful.*
In this life, God gave us breath, strength, protection, opportunities, mercy, and forgiveness. Even after this life must have ended, He has prepared eternal life Loving God is simply responding to His unending faithfulness. No one has ever been as consistently faithful as God.
*3. Love for God Secures Our Future.*
When we love God sincerely, we avoid destructive choices, receive divine direction and walk in His covering. Loving God is not just emotional, it is protective. It keeps us aligned with His destiny for our lives.
*4. Love for God Produces Obedience.*
Jesus tied love directly to obedience: all the Law and the Prophets depend on love. When you truly love God: His commands will not burden you, holiness becomes a desire, not a struggle, you naturally resist sin and you become more like Christ. Obedience is not forced, it flows out of love.
*5. Love for God Gives Us Spiritual Strength*
Joshua said: “One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the Lord your God fights for you.”
Love for God activates spiritual power. A Christian who loves God deeply cannot be easily defeated by temptation, fear, pressure, demonic attacks and discouragement. Loving God empowers your spirit and strengthens your faith.
*6. Love for God Deepens Our Relationship With Him.*
Jesus told the scribe: “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”
Why? Because understanding and loving God deeply brings you closer to Him.
Loving God opens our heart to His revelation, increases our sensitivity to His will, deepens your worship, makes prayer more intimate and fills our life with His presence. There is nothing more fulfilling than intimacy with God.
*7. Love for God Determines Our Eternal Destiny.*
Joshua warned that turning away from God leads to destruction. Jesus confirmed that loving God is “greater than all burnt offerings.”
Salvation is rooted in love. God loved us first, and those who love Him in return remain in His covenant. At the end of life, your relationship with God (not titles, wealth, popularity, or achievements) will determine where you spend eternity.
Heaven is prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).
*Conclusion*
There is only ONE TRUE GOD and because He is the only God, He deserves our highest love, our full obedience and our absolute loyalty.
Let every believer renew their commitment today by saying:
“Lord, You alone are God, and I will love You with all my being.”
*Stay blessed eternally!*
