Iwo Youths Stage Peaceful Protest Over Erratic Power Supply, Exorbitant Electricity Bills

Youths in Iwo, Osun State, on Thursday, February 12th, 2026 staged a peaceful protest to express their displeasure over persistent epileptic power supply and what they described as exorbitant electricity billing by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The protest was led by members of Albadr Electricians, Welders, and Barbers’ associations under the umbrella of Jama’at Ta’awunil Muslimeen. The demonstrators marched through major streets in the town, calling on the electricity distribution company to urgently address the lingering challenges affecting residents and small-scale business owners.

According to the protesters, irregular power supply has negatively impacted their livelihoods, while estimated billing continues to place undue financial burden on consumers despite poor service delivery.

During the protest, the group urged the IBEDC Manager in charge of the Feesu axis, Mr. Michael Adekanbi, to intervene decisively by ensuring improved electricity supply and fair billing practices. They also visited the IBEDC office at Oke-Odo to formally present their complaints and demand immediate action.

The protesters emphasized that their demonstration was peaceful and aimed at drawing the attention of relevant authorities to the hardship being faced by residents and artisans due to the current state of electricity supply in Iwo.

They called on IBEDC and other stakeholders to engage the community, provide meters where necessary, and restore public confidence through transparent and responsive service delivery.

*2025 TA’AWUNU ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE (TANACON’25)*
*DAY 02 – COMPREHENSIVE LECTURE REPORT*

Day Two of TANACON’25, held on Wednesday, 3rd Rajab 1447 AH (24th December 2025), was marked by spiritually uplifting, intellectually engaging, and practically enriching activities spanning the morning, afternoon, and night sessions. The day opened with the Grand M***i’s Welcome Address, setting a firm spiritual and organisational foundation for the conference.

In his early morning address, the Grand M***i of Yoruba Land, Ameer and National President of Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslim, Sheikh Daood Imran Malaasan, warmly welcomed participants and urged them to remain informed about happenings within the Muslim Ummah. He emphasised sincerity, truthfulness, and unwavering faith (Al-Īmān Al-Yaqīn) as essential qualities for benefiting fully from TANACON’25. The Grand M***i called on Muslims not to be discouraged by prevailing economic and security challenges, reminding them that Allah is Ar-Razzāq, the ultimate Provider. He further stressed collective responsibility toward national security and concluded by enjoining obedience to leadership to ensure a disciplined and well-coordinated conference.

Following the Ameer’s lecture, scholars and clerics engaged participants in classroom sessions up till Dhuhr, drawing lessons from the conference texts “Lineage: Its Importance, Regulations, and Limitations in Islam” and “Muslims and Social Media: Negatives, Positives, and Solutions.” These sessions were designed to equip students of knowledge and preachers with sound understanding of Islamic principles in contemporary social realities, particularly in matters of identity, ethics, and digital engagement.

The YMP Afternoon Program commenced after Dhuhr with Qur’anic recitation, the Ta’awun Anthem, and the National Anthem. The first lecture, “Tomorrow’s Heavy Task: Raising Leaders Among Us,” delivered by Barrister Olapade A. Sh*tta, National President of YMP, highlighted the need for academic excellence, moral uprightness, technological competence, and visionary leadership among Muslim youth. This was followed by a second lecture titled “Bringing Ideas to Reality,” presented by QS Abdulazeez Ajani, who stressed skill development, consistency, talent discovery, and constructive feedback as pathways to impactful productivity. Participants were actively engaged, rewarded for correct responses, and collectively charged to remain focused on their aspirations as the future of Islam.

The afternoon lecture segment featured Fadhīlatush Shaykh Bunyamin Abdur-Roheem, who delivered a thought-provoking lecture on “Reliance on Allah and Taking Necessary Steps.” He clarified the correct understanding of tawakkul, explaining that true reliance on Allah must go hand in hand with effort, planning, and obedience. Drawing lessons from the lives of Maryam (peace be upon her) and Prophet Mūsā (peace be upon him), he illustrated how divine reliance never negates human responsibility. The Shaykh emphasised patience, diligence, and action as religious obligations, noting that Allah grants success when īmān, effort, and reliance are sincerely combined.

The day concluded with a night lecture delivered by Fadhīlatush Shaykh Dr. Daood Abdul Baaqiy Muhammad (Al-Bardiy) on “Proving the Beginning of the Lunar Months (Ramadan and Shawwāl).” He reaffirmed the Sunnah-based approach of moon sighting as commanded by the Prophet ﷺ, while explaining that astronomical and scientific methods may only serve as supportive tools, not independent proofs. Addressing the Nigerian context, the Shaykh stressed the obligation of adhering to the Sultan’s declaration as the recognised Ameer, warning against disunity caused by conflicting foreign sightings. He concluded by emphasising unity, obedience, and adherence to the Sunnah as safeguards for communal harmony.

Finally, Day Two of TANACON’25 successfully blended faith, leadership development, intellectual discourse, and practical guidance, reinforcing unity, obedience, and purposeful engagement among participants.

27th TANACON DAY 2: "Put Faith Into Action, Be Steadfast" Islamic Scholar Advises Muslims

The Proprietor of Man'alu-l-ilmi Arabic School, Fadhilatul Sheikh Banyamin Abduraheeem, has encouraged Muslims to embrace putting Islamic teachings into practice in daily life. Speaking on "Attawakuul 'steadfastness'" during the 27th TANACON Day 2, Sheikh Banyamin stressed that merely listening to sermons is not enough; Muslims must act upon them.

"Don't just hear preachings, use them," Sheikh Banyamin said, adding that this is a crucial aspect of steadfastness in Allah. According to him, steadfastness in Allah should always be accompanied by good deeds, "because faith without deed is nothing."

The Sheikh drew inspiration from the life of the companions of Prophet Muhammad, citing their exemplary steadfastness during religious battles. Despite being outnumbered, they had faith in Allah and emerged glorious.

Sheikh Banyamin emphasized that knowledge is key to enjoying Islam, saying, "You will only enjoy Islam, when you are knowledgeable." He also stressed the importance of fervent prayer and correcting one another without insults as part of being steadfast with Allah.

Proper understanding, the Sheikh noted, is a vital component of Attawakuul. He highlighted the often-overlooked concept of jihad, stating that it's an act of jihad for individuals to work in halal ways to finance and take care of their families. "Take good care of your family first before people outside," he emphasized.

Sheikh Banyamin urged Muslims to be steadfast in Islam while seeking sustenance through legitimate means. Cautioning against extremism, he advised Muslims not to focus solely on worship unceasingly while neglecting their worldly responsibilities. He cited Suratul Jumu'ah 62:10, where Allah says, "And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed."

The Sheikh's message emphasized the need for Muslims to balance their spiritual and worldly lives, putting their faith into practice through good deeds, responsible living and steadfastness.

TANACON DAY 2: Grand M***i Urges Yoruba Muslims to Follow Rightly Guided Authority, Unite for Islam's Sake

The Grand M***i of Yorubaland and Ameer of Jama'atu Ta'awunil Muslimeen Worldwide, Fadhilatul Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan has encouraged Muslims to follow the rightly guided authority, love and unite one another for the sake of Islam. He said this during the 27th Annual National Conference (TANACON) of Jama’at Taʿawunil Muslimeen which continued today, December 24, 2025.

"If you offend authorities (leaders) who follow Allah and His Messenger, you've offended Allah. Leaders maybe imperfect, follow them when they stick to Allah and His prophet's guidance, don't follow them when they do things contrary to Allah and His prophet." He encouraged.

Regarding communal harmony, the Sheikh cited Sahih Muslim 2638a, noting the Prophet’s teaching that "souls are troops collected together." He used this reference to explain that spiritual affinity should translate into worldly unity. He urged Muslims to love one another and engage in collective action based on divine guidance, specifically warning against allowing personal disagreements to negatively impact the broader interests of Islam.

In a call for humility, the Grand M***i urged Muslims to tolerate and accept their leaders regardless of their own personal status. He emphasized that even if followers possess superior wealth, education, or influence, they should support their leaders with all their might. He further noted that the intention of followership must be the worship of God rather than the glorification of individuals.

According to the Sheikh, such submission is a means of serving God, and this unified front is necessary to allow Yoruba Muslims to thrive in various sectors of power.

Simultaneously, the Sheikh addressed the religious elite, urging Islamic clerics, to prioritize mutual tolerance and acceptance among themselves. He noted that the unity of the clergy is a prerequisite for the overall success of the mission. By fostering a collaborative environment, the leadership aims to create a stronger foundation for the propagation of Islam across the region.

He encouraged Imams and Muslim Scholars in Yorubaland to attend a gathering themed: "The Birth of the Yoruba Muslim Nation" which will be held in Iwo Osun State scheduled to take place on Thursday, describing the gathering as a conference dedicated to the service, unity, and safety of Yoruba Muslims.

Addressing the spiritual state of the individual, Sheikh Molaasan warned that a continuous weakening of faith is a sign of Satanic influence. He encouraged believers to consciously group their souls with the right people.

The Grand M***i further remarked that the Ummah is currently in an "era of reduction of faith quality," calling for a deliberate increase in spiritual standards. He urged Muslims to be prayerful and to seek refuge in Allah from discord, hypocrisy, and bad character.

Warning to INEC Officers Over Alleged Molestation of Veiled Woman in Iwo

A disturbing report has emerged from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office located in the Adeeke area of Iwo, Osun State, where a veiled woman was allegedly mo**sted by a male INEC officer during her voter registration process.

According to eyewitness accounts, the woman had insisted on being attended to by a female officer in line with her religious beliefs. Despite her clear request, a male officer reportedly proceeded to mo**st her with vulgar words

As the voter registration exercise draws near, this is a crucial moment for every Muslim who cares about the future of Islam and the well-being of society. It is not just a civic duty—it is a moral responsibility.

Islam encourages active participation in building just and upright societies. One of the ways we contribute to that is by making our voices count through the ballot. But it starts with registration.

This is where it begins.

If we truly care about good leadership, policies that reflect our values, and a better tomorrow for the Ummah, we must take the first step—come out and register.
