FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT'S BOLDNESS

Text: Acts 2:14 21

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd... Acts 2:14a, NIV

Bh169: Come Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove

RBT: Proverbs 21-23

Author Wayne Grudem stated in his book entitled Systematic Theology that, "one of the most commonly used terms in the New Testament is being filled with the Holy Spirit." He says, "The work of the Holy Spirit is to manifest the active presence of God in the world and especially in the Church. He empowers, purifies, reveals and unifies the Church.

In today's text, Peter, who had previously denied Christ three times, bravely got up to address the multitude. The secret behind Peter's boldness came from the Pentecost experience, which confirmed Jesus' promise to the disciples in Acts 1:8 that the Holy Spirit would give them power to be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the world. His boldness in addressing the crowd demonstrates the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer.

Have you received the Holy Spirit? Is He at work in you? You can do exploits for God, just like Peter and the other apostles. You have to wait, yearn and pray for the Holy Spirit to empower you. Human strength can fail at any time; this is why you must rely on the Spirit of God to lead, direct, instruct and strengthen you for the work of the ministry. Release yourself to Him today, and He will fill you afresh.

• Wisdom: Boldness to do God's work comes from Jesus Christ alone.

• Food for Thought: Who is the source of your boldness?

• Follow-up Action: Resolve to tarry in God's presence to receive the Spirit's boldness.

• Prayer: Lord, fill me with your Spirit's power that I be your may faithful witness and be able to stand the test of time.

Pray for these ordained ministers and members of their churches: James Swam, Gonin Gora; Solomon Adedunmola A., Lagos; Akpan Bassey E., Abiati Akamkpa; Sunday Adeoye B., Cote d'Ivoire; Emmanuel Keshi, Obrikon; Yunana Bamaiyi, DumnaDutse; Enugu Sheba, Dangir; Philibus Maikeff M., Ibadan; Amos E. LEADING A LIFE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Text: Ezekiel 18:5-9

He follows my decrees and faithfully keeps my laws. That man is righteous; he will surely live, declares the Sovereign LORD. Ezekiel 18:9, NIV

BH 338:More Holiness Give Me

RBT: Psalms 18-21

A young man gave his life to Christ, turning away from his former sinful lifestyle. One day, an old friend met him while going to church and inquired what had changed in his life. He replied, "Jesus changed my life and gave me a brand- new life. Those bad things I used to do, I do them no more. Jesus helps me to live this new life daily."

In the text for today, Prophet Ezekiel mentioned the qualities that should be seen in a righteous man. According to him, a righteous person must not be involved in idolatry, sexual immorality, oppression, stealing, exploitation, or anything wrong. Instead, he must be caring, just, and obedient to God's Word. These requirements will cause God to release abundant life to such a person because he pleases the Lord.

After salvation, it is expected that one live a life of righteousness. A righteous person will live a purposeful and fulfilled life. Such a person will enjoy the promise of eternity hereafter. Christians are to live according to the instructions of God. If a person is in Christ, their focus is to please God. When people lead with a righteous lifestyle, others will see them as those who can be emulated. They will be a positive change agent to people around them.

° Wisdom: Living a life of righteousness is God's expectation of mankind.

° Food for Thought: Are you truly leading a life of righteousness?

° Follow-up Action: Make every effort to be right and just in all you do.

° Prayer: O Lord, help me to be righteous in all areas of life.

Pray for these ordained ministers and members of their churches: Ojo I. Oluwaseun, Sepeteri; Arasomwan Paul, Benin; Ruth M. Oyeniyi, Ogbomoso; Amos Oyekale, Bonny Island; Olawale A. LET US SING TO THE LORD

Text: Psalm 95

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1, NIV

BH 20: O Worship the King

RBT: Esther 1-5

D. A. Carson said, "Worship is the proper response of all moral, sentient beings to God, ascribing all honour and worth to their Creator- God precisely because he is worthy, delightfully so." Worship is not just a ritual, but it is a reflection of our relationship with God.

King David in today's text highlighted the importance of genuine worship. The psalmist invites us to join in a joyful expression of praise. This call is divided into two parts; the first is a call to sing, shout, and bow before the Lord, acknowledging His majesty, creation, and redemption. The second part serves as a warning, cautioning against the hardening of hearts and rebellion, referencing Israel's wilderness experience.

Worship sets us apart from the context of our immediate environment; it places us in another realm in alignment with God if properly done. Therefore, you should engage wholeheartedly in worship, expressing gratitude and adoration. By joining others in united worship, you strengthen fellowship and unity, declaring God's worthiness to the world. Apply this truth by cultivating a lifestyle of genuine worship, honouring God in every aspect of your life, and fostering meaningful relationships with fellow believers through shared worship experiences.

■ Wisdom: God delights in the worship of His children.

■ Food for Thought: Are you a genuine worshiper of God?

■ Follow-up Action: Worship God with some new songs today.

■ Prayer: Lord God, I worship You for who You are to me and Your care upon my life and family. May Your name forever be praised.

OUR CITIZENSHIP IS IN HEAVEN

Text: Philippians 3:17-21

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:20, NIV

BH 483: When We All Get to Heaven

RBT: 1 Chronicles 7-9

Vance Havner, a Southern Baptist evangelist who lived between 1901 and 1986, once said, "If you are a Christian, you are not a citizen of this world trying to get to heaven; you are a citizen of heaven making your way through this world". This implies that everyone who is a Christian possesses heavenly citizenship.

In today's passage, Paul urged the Philippian Christians to follow His examples and those of others who live as he does. He warned them not to have business with worldly pleasures since they belong to Christ. Paul expresses his agony about those who live as enemies of the cross of Christ. He regarded them as evil-doers. Paul warned the believers not to fall prey to these evil people. Rather, they should focus their attention on heavenly citizenship.

As believers, we have a new citizenship because we are in Christ, we are seated in the heavenly places with Him. Certain things will happen to us before we finally arrive in heaven, but our citizenship is as definite now as it will be then. Though there will be a physical translation when we die; spiritually, we are there already. Since your citizenship is in heaven, you must endeavour to follow godly examples of leaders who are also heaven-conscious. You should be mindful of how you live your life by not following worldly standards. You should live with the expectation of reigning with Christ as you expect His coming.

■ Wisdom: You are not a citizen of this world.

■ Food for Thought: Are you mindful of how you live in this world?

■ Follow-up Action: Determine to emulate Christ's examples.

■ Prayer: Father, help me to live my life here with the consciousness of heaven.

DAILY ENCOUNTER WITH GOD (2026)

APRIL 24 FRIDAY, 2026

WE WILL SERVE THE LORD

Text: Joshua 24:22-28

And the people said to Joshua, "We will serve the Lord our God and obey him." Joshua 24:24, NIV

BH 216: I am Resolved

RBT: 2 Kings 17-18

Imagine standing at a crossroads, looking back on a journey of triumphs and struggles. The promised land lies before you, but the choice to follow God's ways remains. God had made a covenant with Israel at Sinai (Exodus 20), and this covenant had been renewed by the new generation under Moses in Deuteronomy. But each generation needed to reaffirm its faithfulness to God, so Joshua renewed the covenant with the people.

Joshua challenged the people of Israel to serve as witnesses against themselves if they turned aside from God. He demanded that they remove their foreign gods, and without hesitation, the people obeyed him. They reaffirmed their decision that they would serve and obey the Lord their God. Realising the sincerity of the people's consecration, Joshua solemnly renewed the covenant. He wrote the agreement in the Book of the Law of God. As a final reminder, Joshua also inscribed the statutes of the covenant on a large stone slab and led them to pledge to fear and to follow the LORD God. Having impressed the memory of the occasion on their minds, Joshua released the Israelites to return to their homes.

Believers are prone to forget, so God uses reminders to keep His people on the path of obedience. Therefore, do away with anything that takes the place of God in your life and in your heart. Live in obedience to God's Word at all times, in all places, and in all circumstances, and depart from everything that will not glorify His name.

• Wisdom: There are choices in life that are life-altering.

• Food for Thought: Am I serving the only true God?

• Follow-up Action: Renew your commitment to God in your area of service in your church.

• Prayer: Father, give me the grace to love and serve You more than before in Jesus' name, Amen.
