West Africa Theological Seminary-WATS

West Africa Theological Seminary-WATS WATS is a non-denominational institution that trains Christian leaders for the church in Africa and beyond. Led by Rev. Gary S.

West Africa Theological Seminary (WATS) started in April, 1989, when a group of Nigerian and expatriate Christian leaders met to consider the needs of the Church in Nigeria and in particular to determine how to provide sound theological training to as many pastors as possible. Maxey of the US, the group moved quickly to establish a strong, academically competent, nondenominational theological semi

nary, now known as WATS. For its first twelve years the seminary (first known as Wesley International Bible College, and later as Wesley International Theological Seminary—and since 2001 as WATS) was located in Owerri, Imo State, in eastern Nigeria. The growth of WATS has been significant since it first opened its doors. Across the years more than 1,000 pastors have graduated, and more than 2,000 totally have received training. Because WATS is nondenominational, it has attracted students and ethnic groups from a broad spectrum of churches, language groups and countries. At any given moment WATS usually has students from at least:

Thirty of Nigeria´s states,
Over forty native languages,
Ten or more other African countries, and
Well over eighty different church groups.

Salvation is not merely a set of religious practices or lifestyles; it is a definite experience of transformation of life.

Receiving salvation requires a response from man, one must exercise simple trust in God’s provision through the Lord Jesus Christ for that transforming experience.

Because of this little human input, there is always the tendency to attribute salvation to human effort.

In today’s scripture, the Apostle Paul addresses the danger of resting on human effort as the basis for salvation.

It is all by grace, help from above through faith, which itself is enabled by God.

Salvation is therefore not an experience to boast about, because even the little faith one exercises to receive it is a gift from God.

How much value do you place on your salvation? How grateful are you to God for it? Your answer will reveal how humbled you are by this glorious experience.

May this Tuesday be your day of triumphant experience in salvation.

The Apostle Peter wrote his epistle to Christians in the first century AD who were scattered throughout Asia Minor because of persecution for their faith in Christ.

Peter’s letter was greatly helpful in many ways, especially in stabilizing believers in the midst of trials and suffering.

What then should be the response of believers under the pressure of persecution, trials, and temptations from the enemies of the faith?
Peter’s admonition in today’s Scripture provides a threefold answer.

First, believers are to embrace the holiness of Christ in their hearts. This refers to the maintenance of heart purity.

Secondly, believers should always be ready to defend the hope that is within them before anyone who asks concerning their faith. This speaks of mental readiness and spiritual conviction.

Lastly, believers must present their responses with gentleness and respect.

As believers in this generation, we too have been called to endure our own share of suffering for the sake of Christ.

Therefore, we must imbibe the qualities highlighted by Peter in his admonition.

As this new week unfolds, may everyone reading these words receive fresh encouragement to remain true witnesses for Christ.

May you enjoy a faith-motivating Monday.

Romans 10 could be considered a biblical passage that presents the formula for experiencing salvation.

It explains the roles of the human heart and mouth as instruments for receiving the gift of new life in Christ.

It is one thing for the message of salvation to be made available in full detail; it is another thing for that message to be heard, understood, and embraced.

The salvation message is this: Jesus died on the cross for the sins of mankind, He was buried, and on the third day He rose again.

Now He is Lord, and His hands are open to receive and save all who call upon Him for salvation.

Upon hearing this Gospel, two major steps of response and agreement must be taken.

First, the heart must believe it. Second, the mouth must openly confess what the heart has believed.

Believing in the heart that Jesus was raised from the dead leads to righteousness, while confessing with the mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord results in salvation.

The agreement of the heart and the mouth upon the truth of the Gospel is what brings a person into salvation.

On this second day of work, may our hearts and mouths remain in agreement with the message of salvation in Christ.

Enjoy a Triumphant Tuesday.

For three years of His earthly ministry, the Lord Jesus Christ prepared His disciples, modeling for them what it means and what it takes to reach the world with the message of God’s Kingdom.

In the end, He not only gave them the model and the message, but also the mandate to go and preach the Gospel to the whole creation.

The message of the Kingdom is not meant for human beings alone, but for the entire creation.

Everything must hear the Gospel not just from anybody, but from those whom He has called to be with Him and commissioned to reveal Him to the world.

As another working week unfolds, may we all embrace this Kingdom assignment of living out and proclaiming the good news of Christ’s Kingdom everywhere we go.

Enjoy a Monday filled with Kingdom miracles!

‭ At one time or another, God’s people find themselves in terrifying situations. Sometimes, it feels as though dangerous circumstances are closing in, ready to overwhelm and swallow you up. In such moments, God may seem far away, and you may even feel abandoned.

Yet, these are the very moments when we most need to be reassured of God’s unfailing presence and help.

Isaiah 41:10 is one of the many profound promises God has given us. It assures us of His presence, strength, and support.

This promise is powerfully reinforced by God’s own declarations: “I am” is mentioned twice, and “I will” appears three times emphasizing His certainty, commitment, and ability to act on our behalf. It is given to help the believer overcome fear in every circumstance.

As this working week unfolds, may everyone reading these words receive the grace to walk in the light of this great promise, with firm assurance of God’s help regardless of whatever difficulties may arise.

May this Monday be filled with timely help, divine strength, and renewed confidence for you.

Becoming a child of God is conditional. The condition that must be met is the possession of a right exousia in the Greek language meaning authority.

It takes being authorized by God to become His child, and this authorization comes when one receives the Lord Jesus Christ and believes in His name (John 1:12).

Being an authorized child of God carries both responsibilities and privileges.

The responsibilities involve the active and continuous response of receiving and believing, while the privilege is the authority God has granted us to live and enjoy our place as members of His family.

May everyone who has received the Lord Jesus Christ and believes in His name be stirred to appreciate and live in the fullness of this divine authorization.

Enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!
