LEADERSHIP AND DISCIPLESHIP SERIES....
*Casting the Vision*
Another Season: Season of Harvest 1 (John 4:31-38) by Bro Ralph Sylvester-Akindele
.. " _In the meantime, His disciples urged Him, saying, 'Rabbi, eat'. But He said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know." Therefore the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?" Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work..._ . (John 4:31-34)_
_
I don't always like to say, 'Happy New Year" for so many reasons. Most important among these is the fact that looking at years gives us a false premise of climax and epochal deception. The word tells us about the Sons of Issachar who understands the times. We can't afford to loose sight of our present season in God. What I hear is clear, and that it is a season of harvest. And Jesus interactions with His disciples at Jacob's well is very crucial to being able to navigate our current season of life. Firstly is the disciples arrival from the city where they went to eat. And in verse 31, they urged the Lord to eat also. They must have probably bought Him some food to eat. But in shocking contrast, He declined eating and chose to show them something more pertinent. In verse 31, the word say, ' _In the meantime, His disciples urged Him saying, 'Rabbi eat'..._ It looks more like and emphatic request to eat. Eating will require Him to sit, relax, and calm down... And so in essence, they wanted Him to cool off a bit. Indeed, the church is currently at the _meantime_ and many are sitting down to relax and giving in to lukewarmness. You see, the disciples have actually eaten and so wanted the Lord to do the same. Isn't that what happens whenever someone has compromised in spirituality? They want to spread it to others who have an affinity with them. In other words, the disciples were saying, 'Look, Master, we have eaten, you too can eat'. And so, the first point to note if you will not miss God's purpose in this season is to be able to identify the silent voices of distraction. Food is good but not for every season. As a servant of God, make sure you are not caught in the web of focusing on the ephemeral and mundane over the eternal! There are two kinds of people on the earth today; those who live to eat and those who eat to live. The first category live for the mundane from dawn to dust while the second group have seen a higher purpose to life beyond working for livelihood. This takes us to the response of the Master in verse 32. But He said to them, " _I have food to eat of which you do not know"_ What a pregnant statement! The food in verse 31 is not the same as this in verse 32. The first food is physical while the second is spiritual. Food gives strength, vigor and vitality. But the Lord is also speaking of another food which can also give strength, vitality and vigor but the disciples do not know this yet. Jesus was constantly feeding on this menu hence He kept had an undivided focus. Reading the words of Christ in verse 32, I see a fresh challenge before me. The challenge to seek to eat the food that is not know by many. And His food was _to do the will of Him that sent Me and to finish His work..._ . We have either seek to know His will for our lives personally or to recover it. For those who have not known His will for their lives, this is the season to press deeper for a revelation. And for those who have lost focus, we need to recover His will afresh. Knowing is will is crucial to navigating the current tidal waves in the last days. His will is the anchor on the ship of your life! You cannot enjoy the harvest without location what the will of God for your life is. Apart from your paid employment, what has God sent you to this world to fulfill? If you have been trapped in a paid employment and find it difficult aligning with the will of God, it's time for you to refocus. Jesus lived on the will of the Father. It was His food, the source of His strength, His vitality and sustenance. Locating God's will in this season is your utmost priority! The darkest hour of the world is fast approaching. We all as believers must locate our portion in God's project and run with it. While the disciples of Christ were encumbered with eating and drinking, He stayed with the women at the well until she repented and became a citizen of the kingdom. It's a season to be deliberate about soul winning! That is our food as believers.
Personal Note from Brother Ralph;
I will be exploring this text in the next couple of days. Hopefully, we want to be able to dicerpher what the Lord is saying to us as we cross into another season of life. We can't afford to be distracted! We occupy a central place in God's program and purposes for the nations. As believers, we are God's vice agents on earth. Seeking to feed on His will must take central place in our quest everyday. Maranatha!
