*CCRM LIVING BREAD OF LIFE FOR FRIDAY 10TH APRIL, 2026*
*Text: Romans 12:11: Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.*
*Topic: Fervent in Spirit*
To be fervent in spirit means to be spiritually on fire—burning with passion, zeal, and devotion to God. It is a call to live a life that is alive, active, and responsive to the Holy Spirit, not cold or indifferent.
God does not desire lukewarm believers. In Revelation 3:16, He warns against being lukewarm. Fervency means your heart is continually stirred toward God, your love is strong, and your desire to please Him is genuine. The Scriptures give us examples of Bible heroes who were fervent in spirit. Elijah was a man of intense passion whose prayers brought down fire from heaven (1 Kings 18:36–38). David served God with zeal and wholehearted devotion (Psalms 69:9).
In the New Testament, Paul the Apostle labored tirelessly with burning passion for the gospel (Acts 20:24), and Apollos was described as “fervent in spirit” (Acts 18:25). These examples show that spiritual fervency is a mark of those who make impact for God. Spiritual fervency is sustained through consistent fellowship with God. As Jeremiah 20:9 says, “His word was in my heart like a burning fire…” The Word of God fuels your spirit and keeps the fire burning. Also, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 encourages us to “pray without ceasing,” which keeps our connection with God alive.
To remain fervent in spirit, you must intentionally cultivate your relationship with God. Consistent prayer builds spiritual fire (Luke 18:1), and regular study of the Word strengthens your inner man (Joshua 1:8). Worship and fellowship with other believers also stir up spiritual passion (Hebrews 10:25).
Additionally, living a life of obedience and holiness keeps your spirit sensitive and active before God (John 14:15). When these practices are consistent, your spiritual fire will remain strong and burning.Fervency must be evident in every area of life. In marriage, it produces love, commitment, and spiritual leadership (Ephesians 5:25). Among friends, it inspires encouragement and godly influence (Proverbs 27:17).
In the workplace, fervency brings diligence, excellence, and a strong work ethic (Colossians 3:23). In school, it produces discipline and focus (Ecclesiastes 9:10). In churches around us, fervency leads to revival, unity, and spiritual growth (Acts 2:42). A fervent believer contributes to a vibrant and growing church.
Spiritual fervency can be weakened by sin, distractions, discouragement, and spiritual negligence. The Bible warns in 1 Thessalonians 5:19, “Do not quench the Spirit.” Also, worldly cares can choke spiritual fire (Matthew 13:22). Therefore, you must guard your heart and remain intentional about your spiritual life.
