*Lesson From Sahābah*
After the blessed month of Ramadan, the companions (Ṣaḥābah) of Prophet Muhammad did not return to negligence; rather, they continued in obedience, humility, and gratitude. Their behavior teaches us that Ramadan is a training period, not an end.
Here are key ways they behaved, with references:
1. Consistency in Worship After Ramadan
They continued acts of worship such as prayer, fasting, Qur’an recitation, and charity.
Evidence:
Allah says:
“And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).”
(Qur’an 15:99)
The companions understood that worship is lifelong, not limited to Ramadan.
2. Fear That Their Deeds Might Not Be Accepted
Despite their عبادات (acts of worship), they were worried about acceptance.
Statement of the Salaf:
Ali ibn Abi Talib said:
“Be more concerned about the acceptance of deeds than the deeds themselves. Do you not hear Allah saying:
‘Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous.’”
(Qur’an 5:27)
3. They Would Pray for Acceptance for Months
The companions used to ask Allah to accept their Ramadan even after it ended.
Report:
It is reported from the Salaf:
“They used to supplicate to Allah for six months that He accepts Ramadan from them, and for six months that He allows them to reach the next Ramadan.”
(Reported by Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali in Lata’if al-Ma‘arif)
4. Continuing Voluntary Fasting (Especially Six Days of Shawwal)
Hadith:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever fasts Ramadan and then follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if he fasted the entire year.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1164)
5. Increase in Gratitude (Shukr)
They showed gratitude by continuing good deeds, because true gratitude is obedience.
Allah says:
“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you…”
(Qur’an 14:7)
6. Avoiding Sins After Ramadan
They feared returning to sins after being purified in Ramadan.
Saying of the Salaf:
Hasan al-Basri said:
“The sign of an accepted good deed is that it is followed by another good deed.”
7. Maintaining Brotherhood and Good Character
Just as they showed kindness, unity, and generosity in Ramadan, they continued it afterward.
Hadith:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people.”
(Reported by Al-Tabarani)
Summary
The Ṣaḥābah did not treat Ramadan as a temporary act of worship. Instead, they:
🌹Continued عبادات (worship)
🌹Feared lack of acceptance
🌹Made du‘ā’ for acceptance
🌹Maintained good character
🌹Stayed away from sins
Key Lesson
🌹Ramadan is not the end but it is the beginning of a stronger relationship with Allah.
