ZAKATUL-FITR APPEAL 1447H / 2026CE
As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum wa Rahmatullah.
As Ramadan draws to a close, Muslims are reminded of an important obligation — Zakatul-Fitr, a charity prescribed to purify the fasting person and support the needy before the day of ‘Eid.
Fadlur-Rahman Islamic Foundation (FIF) presents its Zakatul-Fitr Appeal for 1447H / 2026CE.
According to Abu Sa‘id Al-Khudri (RA), during the era of the Prophet ﷺ, Muslims would give one Sā‘, which equals four Mud (approximately 12 milk tins) of staple food items such as:
* Rice
* Beans
* Garri
* Yam Flour
* Millet
* Other staple foods
These items may be given directly as food. However, scholars have also opined that they may be given in their monetary equivalent to facilitate distribution to those in need (Fatwa Mu‘āṣirah, p.336).
