OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL..

DATE: MONDAY JULY 25Th 2022

THEME: HE WILL RETURN

MEMORISE: Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. Luke 12:37

READ: Romans 13:11 -14

11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

MESSAGE

Many years ago, when I just became born again and began to seriously serve the Lord, the message of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ was preached often. It was so rampant that we had to beg the University students to continue with their education; after all, Jesus said ā€ occupy till I comeā€ (Luke 19:13).The Yoruba Christians had a common greeting amongst themselves that says ā€œEku afojusona ipada Jesu Kristiā€ meaning ā€œWell done as you look forward to the return of Jesus Christā€. Today however, there are very few messages that reminds people of the Lord’s return. People-pleasing sermons have taken over the pulpit. You would hardly see any Christians living in expectations of the Lord’s return.

A man who is preparing for the Lord’s return will never maltreat his wife. A wife who knows the Lord will return suddenly will respect her husband. An employee who is expecting the Lord’s return will not cheat his or her employer. A preacher who is preparing for the Lord’s return will not withhold the truth from the people of God in the congregation. Every child of God who is truly serious with his walk with the Lord will avoid anything and eve

SATAN TARGETS THE HOLY

MEMORISE:
Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. Acts 12:1

READ:
Acts 6:8-15

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR :
1 CHRONICLES 17:19
LUKE 17:20-18:8

MESSAGE:
Holiness is very necessary for anyone who wants to fulfil destiny and make it to Heaven. Holiness also makes God to hide you in His bosom (Psalm 91:4). In other words, holiness provides a cover for the holy, whereas sin exposes the sinner. Sin exposes the one who commits it to shame, disgrace and pain, and it makes the sinner vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy.

When you combine holiness with being a vessel of honour, you become doubly precious to God. You become like a delicate egg in His hands. This is why Psalm 103:13-14 says God will treat such a vessel with lots of care, remembering how weak and fragile he or she is.

From today, the Lord will treat you with special care. You will be special to God and He will hide you in His love in Jesus’ Name.

Moreover, as an instrument of honour, never rest on your oars. Whatever level you may be on presently, you have only started; you have not yet attained the heights that God is taking you to. If you think that you have already arrived with respect to Kingdom tasks, you may attract unwanted things to yourself. Note however that the more God uses you, the more you will be of interest to the kingdom of Satan.

Satan never wants any believer in Christ to end up in Heaven; so he will do all he can to stop you. Take Peter for instance: he loved Jesus so much that he vowed never to deny Him. This he said in spite of what Jesus had foretold would happen (Matthew 26:34-35). Satan saw Peter as a vessel of honour in God’s hands and immediately marked him out as a target. He did everything possible to bring him down, but Jesus prayed for him and he overcome.

Similarly, Satan picked on another vessel of honour – Stephen. Stephen was holy, full of faith and full of Holy Spirit. He was also full of wisdom and was used to perform mighty signs and wonders in the early Church. Satan therefore stirred up serious opposition against Stephen, but he overcome them. When this failed, the enemies connived and brought false witnesses to lie against him.

Satan never keeps to any rule of decency when he fights. He fights dirty. He kept working at it until he got Stephen killed (Acts 7:56-60). But unknown to him, when he thought he had won the battle, his chief vessel of persecution, Saul, was arrested by God and did even far greater works for God than Stephen did. In the end, the devil regretted his action. He wished he had left Stephen alone to have been spared the immense irrecoverable losses he got from his ex-loyal fanatic –Paul.

ACTION POINT:
Pray that every target of Satan in your local church be protected from falling.

WHAT HAS YOUR AFFECTION?

MEMORISE:
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2

READ:
Colossians 3:1-6

1 IF ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR :
2 SAMUEL 23-24 and MARK 15:33-16:8

MESSAGE:
I have observed that one of the reasons why many Christians find it difficult to live according to the standards of the Bible today is that their mind is not set on the things of heaven, and the reason for this is the coming of material prosperity to the church.

Is it then a mistake that God has prospered us materially? Certainly not! Abraham was blessed, Isaac was blessed and Jacob was also blessed, but yet, they all served the Lord. King David even blessed the Lord for material prosperity among other things. Psalm 103:1&5 says,

ā€œBless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name…. who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.ā€

I have always said that the grace you need to manage material prosperity is far greater than the grace you need to manage poverty.

When God begins to prosper you, you must begin to pray harder for more grace to manage the prosperity, or else, your affection may shift from the things of heaven.

It is foolishness to serve the Lord and be mindful of the things of heaven when you are poor, only for you to forget the Lord who has prospered you when the wealth comes. This is why the Bible in Proverb 1:32 says:

ā€œFor the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.ā€

For many children of God, when they were will still struggling to make ends meet, their prayers used to be ā€œThy Kingdom comeā€ Nowadays; they live their lives as if they are not going to die any more, and as if Jesus cannot come at any moment.

Its not hard to identify those whose affection is set on the things of heaven, because they are always busy investing in the expansion of God’s kingdom. Because their investments are in heaven, their hearts are always thinking about heaven.

ā€œBut lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.ā€ Matthew 6:20-21

There is no certainty in whatever treasures you keep on earth. Your investment in the things of heaven is what you will be left with if you make it to heaven.
Therefore, begin to set your affections on heavenly things from today.

PRAYER POINT:
Sweet Holy Spirit, fill my heart with love for the things of heaven in Jesus’ Name.
