*ALL SUFFICIENT CHRIST: PART A —WALKING IN HIS FOOTSTEPS*
*REV. PROF. GREG ERHABOR*

Text: 1 Peter 2:21 (NKJV)
“For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.”
God has given us a pattern for life and a perfect model in Christ, revealing to us what He truly desires. Any counsel that is not centered on Jesus Christ is not wholesome, because Christ is everything we need to know.
Christianity is not built on enjoyment, convenience, or pleasure. It is a call to walk as Christ walked. We are called Christians because we follow the footsteps of Christ. “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.”
I John 2:6 NKJV
We are to be imitators of Christ. “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.”
Ephesians 5:1 NKJV
There are many good pastors and great men of God, but Christ remains the ultimate example.
*Christ is worthy of emulation because:*
* Christ is the only complete One. No pastor or man of God is complete apart from Him.
* Christ is the only One who has truly crossed into the heavens; every other path is mere speculation.
* Christ is consistently consistent—He never changes the principles by which He walks.
* Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8 NKJV
* Christ is the Chief Cornerstone rejected by men but made the Head of the corner.
* Christ is the only One who conquered on earth—over death, enemies, and every power of darkness.
* Christ is the Commander of our faith and the Lord’s army, with authority over the universe.
* Christ is the only person that has the full commendation of God.
The ultimate goal of the Christian faith is to become like Christ.
“My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you.”
Galatians 4:19 (NKJV)
Christianity begins with denying yourself, taking up your cross, and following Christ. We must buy into Christ’s values, ideology, theology, attitudes, lifestyle, perception, and precepts.
What does it mean to be like Christ?
There is no way to be like Christ until He invites you in and is formed in you.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
Revelation 3:20 NKJV
It is not an attainment by human struggle, but an obtainment by the Spirit of God.
*To be like Christ:*
* Set your mind on things above. “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Colossians 3:2 NKJV
When your focus is on heavenly things, earthly pursuits lose their appeal.
* Firmly resolve to do the will of God. “Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”
John 6:38 NKJV
“Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.”
John 4:34 NKJV
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you I do not say on My own initiative or authority, but the Father, abiding continually in Me, does His works [His attesting miracles and acts of power]”
* Maintain intimate fellowship with God. John 14:10 AMP “ Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you I do not say on My own initiative or authority, but the Father, abiding continually in Me, does His works [His attesting miracles and acts of power].”
This is a conscious decision we must make, just as Jesus did. God will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly
When you remain in constant communion with the Father, prayer will not be mechanical but ceaseless and life-giving. You cannot run your life or business disconnected from God, you must be intimately connected with God
* Be completely free from covetousness. “Let your character [your moral essence, your inner nature] be free from the love of money [shun greed—be financially ethical], being content with what you have; for He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!”Hebrews 13:5 (AMP)
Guard yourself from the love of money. “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
I Timothy 6:10 NKJV
A person’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. “And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.””
Luke 12:15 NKJV
