*THEME: THE WIDOW'S CRY*

*PASSAGE: 2 KINGS 4:1-3*
¹ Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried to Eli'sha, "Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant feared the LORD, but the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves."
² And Eli'sha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?" And she said, "Your maidservant has nothing in the house, except a jar of oil."
³ Then he said, "Go outside, borrow vessels of all your neighbors, empty vessels and not too few.

*THEME: THE WIDOW'S CRY*

*THE MESSAGE:*
The situation of the woman in the today's passage was rather terrible, disheartening and heart-breaking. Aside from being a poor widow, the creditors were threatening to take away her two boys who could be regarded as the sources of her joy at the time. Perhaps, she had devised means of offsetting her debt, but all to no avail. Hence, the only option was for her to allow her two boys to be taken away as slaves by the creditors pending the time she would be able to pay up the debt.

Eventually, the woman heard about the arrival of the man of God, Elisha, in the town and she ran to him weeping profusely.

The amazing thing about the miracle of the day that wiped away the tears of the widow was that it was what she had at home that God used to provide all that she needed in abundance! It is only God that can explain how the small room with just a bottle of oil became a depot and the woman suddenly became both oil distributor and major marketer of oil. Do you notice again in the passage that it was neither God nor Elisha that stopped the flow of oil on the day, but it was the woman and her two boys. How? It was when they could not get a jar again that the oil stopped flowing! (verse 6b).

Are you weeping, sorrowing, lamenting, grieving, fed up, thinking of committing su***de, indebted, sick, bedridden, with unresolved marital conflict, bareness, joblessness, financial incapacitation, etc? Cry to God for help as this widow did and patiently wait for God's directives. You are the next to celebrate in Jesus' Name. Amen.

*PASSAGE: MATTHEW 15:10-18*
¹⁰ And he called the people to him and said to them, "Hear and understand:
¹¹ not what goes into the mouth defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man."
¹² Then the disciples came and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?"
¹³ He answered, "Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up.
¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit."
¹⁵ But Peter said to him, "Explain the parable to us."

*THEME: KEEP YOURSELF PURE*

*THE MESSAGE:*
In our passage for today, the Jews worried about eating with "unclean" hands. Their major concern was that eating with unclean hands would make their food unclean, and that eating such food would, in turn, make them unclean. But Jesus taught that it is not what goes in but what comes out of a man that makes him unclean and unworthy to stand before God.

The basic teaching here is that evil thoughts, inordinate ambitions, evil desires and all unholy actions are all products of unclean heart. Hence, it is a misinterpretation and misapplication of the word of God for anyone to say 'don't judge me with my physical appearance.' The simple reason is that our outer appearance is a true reflection of our inner being. In other words, none of our actions will come out without being well thought of in our heart. Hence, your dressing, expression, your attitudes, actions, and other appearances that can be attributed to you are all the products of all what you are inside.

No wonder, we are reminded of the necessity of keeping ourselves pure in today's devotional. This becomes sacrosanct because being pure is one of the communicable attributes of God. 1 Peter 1:15-16 says "But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

Keeping ourselves pure for God anywhere and at any time just like Joseph did in Egypt by refraining himself from having affairs with Potiphar's wife, (Gen. 37:7-9), will justify the state of the cleanness of our heart and actions.

Brothers and Sisters, are you pure at work both physically and spiritually? If we beam searchlight to your inner life, can you stand before God?

*THEME: THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS*

*THE MESSAGE:*
In the realm of the spirit, forgiveness is like giving out a free gift to someone who does not deserve it. Apostle Paul corroborates this statement in his Epistle to the Romans 5:8 (But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us).

The point to consider in the quotation is that while we were still sinning, Jesus went ahead to die for us. It was like before we remember to repent of our sins or asking for forgiveness, God had already forgiven us. When there was nothing to show to merit God's forgiveness, yet, God went ahead to pardon us. We were forgiven before sins were committed.

Can we replicate this kind of attitude as Christians? Can you briefly reflect at this point on those that have at one time or the other wronged you and you have vowed not to forgive them? Is it possible for you to offer them this gift of forgiveness which ordinarily they do not deserve? Because it is a free gift it must be offered just like Joseph in the passage today offered his brothers.

Joseph was rejected, kidnapped, enslaved and imprisoned. Yet, he went ahead to forgive his brothers. Although his brothers had been unfaithful to him, he graciously forgave them and shared his prosperity with them. Forgiveness is a powerful tool to re-integrate, reunite a severed relationship, to end dichotomy, misunderstanding, age long malice and dispute, etc.

Can you offer this gift now by putting a call across to that brother, sister, fellow worker, friend, neighbour, co-tenant, etc. who once offended you and indicate your intention to forgive him/her? Do so TODAY and God will also forgive your sins.

*THEME: JESUS' TEACHING ON ETERNAL LIFE*

*THE MESSAGE:*
It is amazing to see the rigour each animate object, whether man or any other living organism goes through on daily basis to get food to eat and meet other necessities of life. This becomes imperative to keep and sustain physical life. The problem of where can I get bread or what can I eat' has always been man's concern. For instance, we need to remind ourselves of how the Israelites, on many occasions, bombarded Moses with the same question.

Also, the problem of food was another issue Esau could not properly handle. In our world today, many are engaging in so many dubious dealings because of bread. Are we not surprised to hear Jesus Christ telling people of His day precisely in verses 26-27, "I tell you the truth, you are looking for Me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and you were filled. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you..."

God, in His wisdom, created food for man to eat for his physical growth and total well-being. Physical food is temporal and cannot guarantee eternal life. It lacks the capacity to offer anyone the hope of everlasting life with God at the end of age. Therefore, Jesus Christ, in His conversation with His audience and, by extension, with all the readers of this devotional, makes it clear that HE (JESUS) is the bread of life that comes from God with full assurance that anyone who partakes of Him will have eternal life.

Hence, as we daily crave for the physical food, so we must accept Jesus Christ into our lives for sustainability of our spiritual life which will eventually translate to eternity with Him hereafter.

THEME: THE HEALING OF THE LAME MAN

PASSAGE: ACTS 14:8–14

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:

9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

THE MESSAGE:
The story this cripple as captured in today's passage, reminds us that God works in mysterious ways and His way no one can fathom. A close look at the preceding verses reveals that Paul and Barnabas only fled to Lystra because people wanted to stone them at Iconium (verses 5–6). On getting to Lystra where they ran to for safety, was a cripple who had never walked with his legs since he was born.

The point of emphasis in this story is that the man in the picture was an adult. We can guess the age one would attain before we can regard him as a man. We can picture the expected responsibilities of the man, either in his immediate family or in the society at large. Unfortunately, the man was stagnated in all ramifications. His destiny, glory, aspirations, visions, dreams, thoughts, ideas, and a host of other purposes in life were all tied down! The situation was seriously precarious and disheartening. Lord have mercy!

Meanwhile, when the devil was inciting people against Paul and Barnabas at Iconium, which forced them to run to Lystra where this man was, he (devil) never knew that he was only working out God's purposes for the cripple. The Lord will do something that will put an end to your suffering.

Is your work crippled? Is your destiny tied down? Are you downcast because nothing is working again? Has your business gone bankrupt? Are you spiritually and physically dry? Are you physically, financially, emotionally, matrimonially and materially stagnated? See, God is arranging your miracle, provided you can activate faith like the cripple. It is your turn to witness an unfathomable miracle of God in Jesus Name. Amen.

*THEME: DIVINE ASSURANCE*

*THE MESSAGE:*
There is no doubt that we are daily faced with different challenges either from the physical or spiritual realm. Sometimes the burdens of life appear so cumbersome and insurmountable that we feel as if God is no longer interested in our matter. For instance, in such situation that seems precarious, the devil subtly whispers to us that we have been stripped naked and that we are all alone in the battle of life like it presently may be happening to some of the readers of this devotional.

However, today's passage reactivates the consciousness of divine assurance that in such a time, God is more than ready to answer us when we pray unto Him. David, the author of this Psalm, emphatically remarked in verse seven that "in the day of my trouble I will call to You (God), for You will answer me." With this resolute assurance, we can be rest assured that regardless of the degree of challenges of life, we can overcome provided we can pray and surrender the problem to God.

Therefore, brethren, despite all that we may be passing through now, let the conviction that God answers prayer keep sustaining us and that those challenges are just stepping stones to greatness in life. There are stories of the great men and women of old that held on to this divine assurance in their days and they were never disappointed. You can lean on the same arm and patiently wait for your resounding victory as you navigate on.

David knew that God would answer his prayers because he was holy (v.2), God is good and ready to forgive (v.5); God is merciful to those who call Him (v.5) and many other reasons. Why don't you call upon Him like David today and see your miracle happening?

_WEDNESDAY AUGUST 12, 2026_

*THEME: WALKING ON WATER*

*PASSAGE: JOHN 6:16-24*
¹⁶ When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
¹⁷ got into a boat, and started across the sea to Caper'na-um. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
¹⁸ The sea rose because a strong wind was blowing.
¹⁹ When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat. They were frightened,
²⁰ but he said to them, "It is I; do not be afraid."
²¹ Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
²² On the next day the people who remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone.
²³ However, boats from Tiber'i-as came near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
²⁴ So when the people saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and went to Caper'na-um, seeking Jesus.

*THEME: WALKING ON WATER*

*THE MESSAGE:*
Looking at today's passage, we are told that shortly after Jesus fed about 5,000, the people confirmed He was the expected Messiah of the world. Hence they wanted to forcefully make Him their King. Having realised this, Jesus sent His disciples away to Capernaum, their spiritual headquarters. However, at about 3.a.m. Jesus came to them walking on the water. The disciples were engulfed with fear because they thought they were seeing a ghost. Hence, Jesus doused their tension with a soft consoling sentence: 'Do not be afraid, it is I".

Peter, one of the disciples, pleaded with Jesus to command him to walk like Him on water and Jesus obliged. However, the waves and the storms of the water terrified Peter immediately he shifted his attention from looking at Jesus Christ who has power over every storm of life.

Brethren, walking on the sea is physically impossible; one will sink to the bottom of the sea and, if not rescued immediately, it may lead to death! But Jesus did it! Therefore, to walk on water or the sea implies God's ability to make you do the impossible for Him! Walking on water is about walking above the turbulent storms of life that may be raging around us at this moment. It is about moving forward and still succeeding in the midst of challenges of life that want to deface us. Walking on water means God's intention to help you fulfil divine purpose for your life; moving against all contrary winds and still determined to get to your divinely-approved destination.

People like Joseph, Daniel, the three Hebrew brothers and Paul walked on the water and they never sank because they were never overwhelmed with the raging of storms around them. Rather, they focused on God.

Regardless of the waves around you, keep looking at Jesus and, definitely, you will arrive at a divine destination in Jesus' Name.

*THEME: SALVATION THROUGH FAITH*

*PASSAGE: ROMANS 10:5-15*
⁵ Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on the law shall live by it.
⁶ But the righteousness based on faith says, Do not say in your heart, "Who will ascend into heaven?" (that is, to bring Christ down)
⁷ or "Who will descend into the abyss?" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
⁸ But what does it say? The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach);
⁹ because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
¹⁰ For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved.
¹¹ The scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame."
¹² For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches upon all who call upon him.
¹³ For, "every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved."
¹⁴ But how are men to call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher?

*THEME: SALVATION THROUGH FAITH*

*THE MESSAGE:*
In the passage read today, the word of God makes it clear that man does not need to travel far, neither does it require of him to engage the service of any intermediary to obtain God's salvation. The clarity of the message is specifically domiciled in verses 6-11. Please, read it again. What does it suggest to you? Have you ever been asked, "How do I become a Christian?"

These verses give you the beautiful answer that salvation is as close as your own mouth and heart. Many people think that to get saved must be a complicated process, but it is not. If we believe in our hearts and say with our mouths that Christ is the risen Lord and follow His step, we will be saved. Period.

From the foregoing, faith in God is the major requirement every man needs to have access to this saving grace provided by God via the instrumentality of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Fortunately for the whole human race, the process of professing it has been made so simple and clear that it can be done anywhere.

However, as we confess with our mouths, we must, at the same time, believe in our hearts that Jesus is the only means to our salvation (John 14:6). Hence, the question we need to ask ourselves as we gather as a family in this morning devotion is: How many of us have sincerely accepted this means of salvation?

If you have not, today is another opportunity to accept Christ as your Lord and Saviour and you will be saved, you and your house!
