FATHER AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION

A father can play a very important role in helping his children resolve conflicts in a healthy way.

The goal is not simply to stop the argument, but to teach them how to handle disagreements respectfully and constructively.

Here are some practical steps:

1. Stay calm and impartial

● Listen to each child without immediately taking sides.

● Avoid labeling one child as "the troublemaker" or "the victim."

● Let each child
feel heard.

2. Hear both perspectives

● Give each child an opportunity to explain what happened.

● Encourage them not to interrupt each other.

● Ask questions to understand facts and feelings.

3. Help them identify the real issue

● Sometimes the argument is not really about a toy, chore, or possession.

● There may be underlying feelings such as jealousy, hurt, feeling ignored, or wanting fairness.

4. Teach respectful communication

● Encourage statements like "I felt hurt when..." instead of "You always..."

● Help them express emotions without insults or aggression.

5. Guide them toward solutions

● Ask, "What do you think would make this right?"

● Let them participate in finding a fair resolution rather than imposing one immediately.

6. Promote forgiveness and reconciliation

● Encourage sincere apologies when appropriate.

● Help them understand that relationships are more important than winning an argument.

7. Set clear family rules

● No hitting, name-calling, threats, or disrespect.

● Make sure consequences for breaking these rules are consistent.

8. Model the behavior you want to see

● Children learn conflict resolution by watching their parents.

● Demonstrate patience, listening, humility, and respect in your own relationships.

From a Christian perspective, a father can also remind his children of teachings such as loving one another, showing kindness, and seeking peace. For example, Ephesians 4:32 encourages believers to be kind, compassionate, and forgiving toward one another.

If the conflict is recurring, the father may need to spend individual time with each child to understand deeper issues and ensure each feels valued and loved. Often, many sibling conflicts become easier to resolve when children are confident that they have their father's attention and affection.

The stone rolled away… and REST walked in. ✨
Easter at GMMC Ikot Ekpene was a revelation, not just a celebration.
The Cross spoke loudly; IT IS FINISHED.
And the tomb echoed; forever settled.
Worship ignited atmospheres, chains dissolved without a trace.
The Word unveiled our reality: we live FROM victory, not for it.
Hearts awakened, faith rose, and burdens lost their voice.
PAID IN FULL became more than words, it became our consciousness. 🔥
We rise daily, reigning in the fullness of His finished work..
