BIBLE READINGS FOR HOLY MASS OF MONDAY, 10 November 2025

Obligatory Memorial of Leo the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church.

First Reading: Wisdom 1: 1-7
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 139: 1b-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-10
Alleluia: Philippians 2: 15d, 16a
Gospel: Luke 17: 1-6

First Reading: Wisdom 1: 1-7
1 Love justice, you that are the judges of the earth. Think of the Lord in goodness, and seek him in simplicity of heart.

2 For he is found by them that tempt him not: and he sheweth himself to them that have faith in him.

3 For perverse thoughts separate from God: and his power, when it is tried, reproveth the unwise:

4 For wisdom will not enter into a malicious soul, nor dwell in a body subject to sins.

5 For the Holy Spirit of discipline will flee from the deceitful, and will withdraw himself from thoughts that are without understanding, and he shall not abide when iniquity cometh in.

6 For the spirit of wisdom is benevolent, and will not acquit the evil speaker from his lips: for God is witness of his reins, and he is a true searcher of his heart, and a hearer of his tongue.

7 For the spirit of the Lord hath filled the whole world: and that, which containeth all things, hath knowledge of the voice.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 139: 1b-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-10
R. (24b) Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way.

1 Lord, thou hast proved me, and known me:

2 Thou hast know my sitting down, and my rising up.

3 Thou hast understood my thoughts afar off: my path and my line thou hast searched out.

R. Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way.

4 And thou hast foreseen all my ways: for there is no speech in my tongue.

5 Behold, O Lord, thou hast known all things, the last and those of old: thou hast formed me, and hast laid thy hand upon me.

6 Thy knowledge is become wonderful to me: it is high, and I cannot reach to it.

R. Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way.

7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy face?

8 If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I descend into hell, thou art present.

R. Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way.

9 If I take my wings early in the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea:

10 Even there also shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall hold me.

R. Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way.

Alleluia: Philippians 2: 15d, 16a
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

15d, 16a Shine like lights in the world, as you hold on to the word of life.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel: Luke 17: 1-6
1 And he said to his disciples: It is impossible that scandals should not come: but woe to him through whom they come.

2 It were better for him, that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should scandalize one of these little ones.

3 Take heed to yourselves. If thy brother sin against thee, reprove him: and if he do penance, forgive him.

4 And if he sin against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day be converted unto thee, saying, I repent; forgive him.

5 And the apostles said to the Lord: Increase our faith.

6 And the Lord said: If you had faith like to a grain of mustard seed, you might say to this mulberry tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou transplanted into the sea: and it would obey you.

Wednesday of the Thirty-First Week in Ordinary Time, Year C: Luke 14:25-33
LOVING THROUGH “HOLY HATE”
Obviously, the word “hate” in the gospel of today is not the same as the sin of hate and anger. Hence, today’s gospel calls us to renounce all of our possessions. In other words, we must renounce anything that we are attached to in a way that is contrary to the will of God. Of course, in God’s providence, most people (except those who take a vow of poverty) are invited by God to have various possessions to meet the material needs of life. But even in this case, we must “renounce” all that we possess, meaning, we must not allow ourselves to become attached to anything other than God. But this is freedom in the truest sense. Even if you have many things, it must be understood that those things do not make you happy. Only God and His will can fulfil you. Nothing else. Thus, we must learn to live as if God and God alone suffice. And if it is God’s will that you obtain a house, car, computer, television and other modern conveniences, then so be it. But true “renunciation” of all of these possessions simply means that if at any time you were to lose them, then this would be fine. Therein is perfect detachment. The loss of something material would not deter you in any way from loving and serving God and His holy will. Possessing God alone is more than you could ever hope for. By possessing our merciful God, you will be able to love yourself and others with the pure heart and love of Jesus. Reflect, today, upon these radical words of Jesus. Hear them in the way Jesus meant them. Work to be detached from everything contrary to the will of God and everything that becomes an obstacle to God in your life. Jesus, we trust in you, Amen. “YOU ARE THE LIGHT”
